Thorfire senses his foe is rather wounded and strikes him again driving his rapier deep into his bowels.  Nice job Celador, at least you hit the beast this time.  When I am done disemboweling my foe, I will kill yours for you.

Re: Chapter 4: The Northern Trail

Jumping out from behind Celador's legs, Thorfire surprises the first giant hairy goblin, this time running his rapier straight through the unsuspecting beast, who growls fiercely, then falls to the floor with a thud as the deadly Halfling darts behind his elven brother-in-arms for cover.

Celador's longsword bites into the second giant hairy goblin for the first time. The goblin growls menacingily, the replies with a crushing blow against the elf, staggering him notably (Celador takes another 11hp damage).

Lazaret sticks his rapier straight through the rotten man he faces, a green ooze pours from the wounds. Even so, the man still stands, groans, and waves his remaining bloated fist at Lazaret, but his attack is much too slow for the Tabaxi.

Therarak, meanwhile, eyes the final mook who still struggles with his own flaming trousers. While distracted by that, the Svirfneblin lobs a vial of acid over Celador, Thorfire, and their adversaries and straight onto the rotting, burning man. He grunts in added discomfort, now doubly confused by flames and acid, but still standing (albeit with a noticeable list).

23:36, Today: DM rolled -3 using 1d20-4.  Rotten mook #2 INT saving throw to put out flaming pants.
23:24, Today: DM rolled 13 using 1d20-2.  Mook 2 DEX save vs. Alchemical Acid.

23:30, Today: DM rolled 12 using 1d20+3.  Rotten mook #1 bloated fist vs. Lazaret.

23:28, Today: DM rolled 9 using 1d20.  Giant hairy goblin 2 perception (find hiding Thorfire).
23:29, Today: DM rolled 19 using 1d20+4.  Giant hairy goblin 2 morning star vs. Celador.

Post round 4 actions.
1 giant goblin down and 1 still standing, currently engaged with Celador.
1 mook wounded and engaged with Lazaret.
1 mook wounded and unengaged, but burning via flame and acid.
1 hooded man still curled up in a ball on the ground where Thorfire stuck him three rounds ago.
FYI, Celador has been hit twice, by my count, he's down to 10hp (check my math, Celador)!

Re: Chapter 4: The Northern Trail

Celador, inspired by the encouragement of his Tabaxi friend, slices through the thick hide of his foe, drawing a vicious snarl from the goblin amidst a spattering of blood. As the beast raises his morning star in reply, Thorfire darts out from behind Celador again, running the exposed goblin through with a final, fatal attack. The morning star falls from his taloned hand with a thud and he follows immediately thereafter with a thud of his own.

Lazaret runs the rotten bloated mook through the throat with his own rapier. Upon pulling back, the vile creature's head comes clean off, falling to the ground where its mouth still opens and closes rhythmically as if not aware of the fact it is no longer attached to a body. The headless body, meanwhile, staggers for a few moments with bloated arms outstretched. It eventually collapses a few paces from the head, which still opens and closes as if protesting Lazaret's final blow.

The final mook, pants still aflame, spies Therarak's vial coming at him, but instead of dodging, he appears to turn in an attempt to catch it. With arms open wide (too wide) in front of him, the vial hits him in the chest, shattering in a hiss of acid which burns a large hole in his chest, out of which crawl several worms (themselves burned by the acid) and a foul smelling green ooze.

00:24, Today: DM rolled 3 using 1d20-2.  Mook 2 DEX save vs. Alchemical Acid.
00:26, Today: DM rolled 6 using 1d20+3.  Rotting Mook #2 CON save vs. dying.

As the dust settles, there are no opponents standing. Two rotting corpses and two giant hairy goblins lie dead and the hooded man is curled up on the floor where he fell a minute or so earlier.
OOC: Combat is over. Well done. I thought the bugbears giant hairy goblins would have given you a little more trouble. I guess they did dish out 33hp worth of damage, so that isn't chump change for damage.

Re: Chapter 4: The Northern Trail

In reply to DM (msg # 433):

"Well. We can practice later, Celador."

Lazaret points his rapier at the Hooded Man and orders him to roll over with his hands behind his back. Deftly he ties the man's hands together very tightly using complex knots he learned at sea. "I hope this is a bit too tight for you."

"Thorfire, search this room and sheath your blade." Lazaret stands the hooded man up and continues talking to Thorfire, but very close to the man's ear, "You may get to use it yet."

Lazaret begins to search the hooded man's pockets looking for weapons, gold, and other items. He disarms the man and further ties his arms for transport.

"Celador! Have I ever told you about the time my Captain sent me out to dispatch a merchant, I mean a mercenary that had been following us? A nasty little man who had witnessed too much it turns out. I passed myself off as a sailor for hire and secured work on his boat. For three days I ingratiated myself to his liking and at the end of the fourth day of service, I slit his throat while he slept.

"After that I turned the boat around and returned to port and disappeared into the city. I finally found my way back to my Captain and told him that the work was done. Rather than embracing me and rewarding me for a job well done I was roundly beaten and denied food or water for three days for not bringing back proof of my deed.

"Now. We do have our quarry tied up here, but the Good Sister may not believe he is who we say he is and Thorfire over there may just, how did he say it? Homo kill this guy? So, I suggest we return with more proof of our victory here. So, please, as I have done with this smelly, rotting thing, can you use your longsword to remove the heads of these creatures? We will bring them back and show them to Sister Gwendelon as further evidence of the nefarious goings on in this cave. We'll collect a few goblin skulls too.

"Therarak! I'm sure that fancy little bag of yours will hold the heads just fine."

In reply to Lazaret (msg # 434):

Celador, thanks for distracting the goblin...your welcome by the way.

Fingering his daggers, Thorfire stares and grins at the hooded man.  Please give me a reason to remove your head from your worthless body, as you may have noticed, I truly love killing.  Without waiting for an answer, he draws his dagger and cuts part of the filthy shirt from the hairy goblin and shoves it into the hooded man's mouth.

Therarak, do you think a bound and gagged hooded man would fit into that special bag of yours?

Thorfire searches the room for treasure and incriminating documents.

Comrades, this fight seemed too easy...I thought the hooded man would be a more formidable foe.  I was expecting at least some resistance not some poor whiney bitch.  Perhaps we should search the rest of the cave to make sure we have the right man.

By the way, Therarak do you have one of those foul tasting potions that are supposed to make you feel better?

Thorfire:

I think if he "aids" you you can roll with advantage? What's your rule Mr. DM?

Celador looks at the hooded man and says, "we could have done this the easy way. I will try to keep my halfling colleague from killing you before we get to Sister Gwendelon, but it won't be easy. And I won't need much of a reason to not stop him if you start to act up." #intimidation

Celador looks at his wounds, "Let's get out of this place and find a spot where I can tend to my wounds a bit."

Short rest?

The hooded man nods, his sagging shoulders essentially admitting his defeat was quite unexpected and disappointing for him. Perhaps he realizes the scales of justice are not likely to tip in his favor once he reaches Westbank. Or perhaps he's already heard of the wrath of Gwendelon. Whatever the specific reason, his body language shouts dejection.

He carries a couple of daggers and a small pouch containing a handful of silver pieces (14 silver pieces). Underneath his robe he wears leather armor and around his neck dangles a stone emblem on a silver chain. The emblem is unknown to the party (if anyone can make a DC20 religion roll, I'll tell you more) . Around his fingers sit a total of six rings, none of which appear magical, but some of which may fetch a few gold pieces in Westbank.

Aside from the dead bodies and the pile of large rocks in the northwest corner, there is little of interest in the chamber. Even the torches stuck in the wall have a very ordinary look about them.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the Tabaxi. We can't rest here.  I know they are vile, but get a potion from Therarak and let's get out of this cave. You hear him muttering to himself, I still think we dump him in the bag of holding with the severed heads. After thinking about removing the hooded man's fingers to get the rings, Thorfire sheaths his dagger and yanks them off.  I wonder if any of these are magical.

When we proceed to the exit we should also keep an eye out for the large rats that were in the pit since we didn't dispatch them and they might not have been fed in a while...
