Taking Zero
That's literally it, yes. Assume a roll of [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] when you want to know if a character is capable, but the stakes aren't high enough to make failure interesting. =)

Taking Zero
So yes I am going to be working on my character now, nathan/real life fiance is passed out but yeah.

I figured I would just ask here what is the age most characters are in game like teens or 30s like the books or 50s ect

2nd thing I figured I would ask the gm but let others put in their input. Was thinking with permission to play a wolf who is a shapeshifter. She would be more skilled in her wolf form but could transform to human similar to one of the characters in full moon. If this was allowed I plan for her to be semi air heady like she says things backwards or broken along with the fact that she was a spoiled pet to some kind of person who took care of her...so think of her more like a house dog treated like a child than a wild wolf.

3rd: I am very use to the original dresden files fates so this will be my first time playing accelerated of dresden and the 2nd time playing accelerated so I apologize if I make mistakes and go too much into detail

Re: Taking Zero

Don't know for certain, but it's my impression that:
  • James is in his early twenties,
  • Mona is in her mid to late twenties
  • Marcus is nearly a hundred, but presents as someone in his thirties or forties
  • Nathan has't indicated his age yet.
  • Willa (NPC) is in her late forties or early fifties
  • Luke & Nicole (NPCs) are in their early thirties

It's an interesting idea.  Do you see the distinction of "being raised as a pet" as having any impact on her fundamental "wolf" skills?  We didn't get a lot of history about Tera West from Fool Moon.  But we did get that she was engaged to a human loup-garou... So, obviously she had to be socialized enough with humans to get that.

I'm certainly okay with the "semi-domesticated wolf" approach, but would like to avoid the "spoiled pet" vibe.   I would prefer that she were raised by someone who actually had a clue what she was... perhaps by a loup-garou, or a natural changer...

Or perhaps the family that raised her had a history of interbreeding with a pack that is native to their area... human family with werewolves among them breeding with wolf-pack with werehumans among them...

I ran several RPOL DFRPG gamers, a four-year tabletop game and occasionally demo'd the Dresden Files RPG at local gaming conventions.  So, we're in the same boat.   There are some striking differences But this is faster, and way more streamlined.

Alright so think she will be 25 still living with her mother and father working at an animal clinic.

I see her being raised as a pet having an impact like she doesn't exactly know how to fight well or like a pack. she has her animal instincts but she was raised with a human/werewol family where the took Jen in after a hunter killed her pack. She would have been a cub at the time probably 2 or 3 years old.

As for her life till the game I figure she was aided by people I mean if you were okay I would have her dad be a goon for the big shot since I figure its not Mr. Marcone...if it is I figure like I said for her dad to be more of the tracker for the mob who doesn't say his family are werewolves.

Oof.  The Pink is difficult to read on my screen.

I do not require that you use these colors, but I have a basic convention I follow for my own writing:

Orange: Out-of-Character. - Out-of-Character.  I find large blocks of orange irritating, so for huge walls of text, I may go gray, instead.

Red - Reserved for Emphasis - This is the equivalent of shouting "GM, LOOK AT ME!"  or, more often, the GM shouting "READ THIS, DAMMIT!"

Purple: - I often use Purple for quoting things other people said.   This allows me to use the quote mechanism for indented asides and examples.   I also dislike nested quotes, so this helps to offset chunks of converastions.

Dark Blue: Speech - I tend to use this for character speech.

Dark Green: Alternate Speech Speech made via other methods... telepathy, radios comms, telephones...

Dark Green: ASPECTS IN TITLE-CASE - Just the Aspects

Re: Taking Zero
I thought I posted here but my laptop died on Saturday morning the motherboard finally gave out.

but yeah so fn bills made it so I will be at least two weeks maybe more without my laptop. I have my bridal shower this week-end so hopefully I might get surprised with money to replace it but yeah.

As of right now I will be posting off and on with my fiancé's comp or my pc if I have time to power it up and use it.

I will keep hoping in and trying to work on my char but almost everything I had ideas on are on my hard drive from my old laptop. I should hopefully have an external case soon so I can plug it in and access the wedding and tabletop files.

Update: Just posted my character sheet in my ooc thread along with my character's theme.

Re: Taking Zero
Sorry folks... changes in medication last week sort of messed me up.  While it was great that I was no longer coughing up a lung every twenty minutes, the trade-off of sleeping for 20-hours a day didn't quite seem worth it.   So, now I'm not taking half-and-half medication until I can get in to see my doctor...

I've just come off my work-week, so I'll get caught up and push us forward.   I need to have a nap, then I've a photo-shoot in about six hours.  After that I'll get down to business.

For Nathan and Jennifer specifically, I am sorry to have left you hanging.  I will warn you now that this game won't ever have a regular pace.  I just can't manage that.  There's too much irregularity in my life.  But I will keep the game going until I decide not to and you won't have to guess.

If this isn't acceptable, please let me know, and I'll remove you with no hard feelings.

For now, I'm assuming we're moving forward.  I'll push character-stuff forward and start developing a first-scene for you two.  We'll start out with you two together.   Probably looking for blackmail on Martin Kildaw, a lawyer that a friend (Willa Porter) is about to try to discredit...

Re: Taking Zero
I am not worried cause I understand that since I have a similar situation since I am so sick from various diseases.

its a long list but yeah can only work at like 20 hours a week since I wound up in the hospital a few years back for a bit.

I will try to keep Nathan active but I know he kind of gets bored if there isn't movement. I am sure we are allowed small side rp in threads from what I saw so I don't think he will poof and if he does......we share the same bed I will drag his ass back

James - Winter Mantle

So, in most situations, james has the option of using one of his default Approaches (Guile, Haset, etc) or using The Winter Mantle as an Approach..

I get that you're giving Unseelie magic to a mortal and he should, therefore, be made to pay a little more for it.  But I think we can have him do things with his own base Approaches, and call upon the Winter Mantle to supplement it without all instances affecting the stress-track.  of course, it is a very hazy area... On the one-hand, I don't want to micro-manage this; on the other, I don't want to abuse it, either.

The Winter Mantle Condition does say that any tapping of the Winter Well should cost a block of the Condition.  I think we should give it a little bit of leeway.  Minor magics... like leaping the fence... may certainly be beyond normal capability, but I just don't see it as a big enough draw on the well to warrant a mark on the stress-track.

So, the Glamour used in the police impound...  Could have been rolled with Guile(+1).  True, it would have given you a Mediocre(+0) result, so you were better off with the Winter Approach.  But I don't want you thinking you had no other option here.

James - Winter Mantle
In reply to Control (msg # 320):

From my understanding it doesn't quite work that way? What I think it does is that I can use "Winter" as if it was a seventh approach with a + value equal to the number of unchecked boxes, OR I can mark a box to get +1 to one of the other 6 approaches. So I can do things Winter's way until the cow's come home but if I try and bend the power to my way of doing things, it costs me.

Make sense?

~~~~~~
Winter/Summer Power (fleeting): [][][][][] Check one of this condition’s five boxes to use the well of power granted to you by your mantle, as described in your stunts. Recover fully at the end of any scene in which Winter/Summer Power is unused.
This condition may also be utilized to create an approach (Summer or Winter, respectively) with a bonus equal to the number of unchecked boxes usable toward any action. The GM, however, will exacerbate your self-described actions according to the character of the mantle: Winter as cold, predatory, and domineering or Summer as passionate, emotional, and carefree.
If the impact of allowing the mantle to control your action is sufficiently complicating, the GM may also treat it as a compel and award you a fate point.
I agree on the ability to use unmarked Winter Power boxes as an Approach.
Where does the +1 to a base Approach come in?  I see it for Faster, Tougher, Stronger and Unseelie Magic.  I'm having trouble finding where it allows for augmenting any base approach outside of predefined stunts.
So I can do things Winter's way until the cow's come home but if I try and bend the power to my way of doing things, it costs me.
So long as it fits Winter's Agenda, you can do things Winter's Way until the cows come home... yes.
It is possible that James may attempt to do something with the Winter Approach and will fail outright, but I will need a concrete justification for how in contravenes the Agenda.
If you are arguing about the use of Base Approaches augmented by Winter Power...   I'm simply looking for the reference that says Winter Power can be used to augment a base approach.
His Mantle stunts are:
  • Faster, Stronger, Tougher
  • Unseelie Magic
  • Superior Recovery
Any use of these will cost him on the Winter Power Condition.
I still contend that we have some leeway.  a minor use of, say, Unseelie Magic in accordance with the agenda, shouldn't necessarily cost you, unless it's dramatically appropriate.
To my mind, leaping the fence is still minor enough that I don't feel it should cost you--even if it is invoking Faster, Stronger,Tougher.  The Glamour... well, it is using Unseelie Magic, so yeah, that should cost you.
I have enabled Character Sheets for everyone.
Due to an event in a different game (where someone deleted their sheet by mistake), I'm going to go back to keeping a copy in a public thread so we always have a backup.
