Picking it up...

Yup, we're still going.   End of Year Holidays are what they are.

I'm back and getting my feet under me.  Was a good little trip, though.  I needed it.

Now, I'm eager to get us into some action...

I'm ready! Are you ready? For me? To turn into a cat? Because I can do that. Really. Just...apparently when no one's looking. Not even the players. :P

Picking it up...
I'm struggling to come up with good ideas for us all meeting up at the moment that aren't just something mundane. Meeting for a meal or coffee somewhere at afternoonish since we'll be between our various stuff for the day.

Picking it up...
I needed to set up some things first before getting you together.   THat's pretty much been done now.

Marcus has met the Photographer & a few others, Gordon has met Gundram and Luke & Mon a have met the big black guy and Sebastian Strauss.

Now that that's been done, I'll get WIlla to give y'all a call.   I think a simple, straight-forward episodic mission of some sort will make things easier all around.

New year, now life...   And I think we may have a new player joining us soon...

The Fish-Wife
here's the Fish-Wife story...

It's relevant to Luke & Mona.  It's entirely your call as to whether they know it and if so, how well they know it.

The Devil-Fish’s Daughter
(From: The Myths of the North American Indians)

A Haida Indian was sailing in his canoe with his two children and his wife at low tide. They had been paddling for some time, when they came to a place where some devil-fish stones lay, and they could discern the devil-fish’s tracks and see where its food was lying piled up. The man, who was a shaman, landed upon the rocks with the intention of finding and killing the devil-fish, but while he was searching for it the monster suddenly emerged from its hole and dragged him through the aperture into its den. His wife and children, believing him to be dead, paddled away.

The monster which had seized the man was a female devil-fish, and she dragged him far below into the precincts of the town where dwelt her father, the devil-fish chief, and there he married the devil-fish which had captured him.

Many years passed, and at length the man became home sick and greatly desired to see his wife and family once more. He begged the chief to let him go, and after some demur his request was granted.

The shaman departed in one canoe, and his wife, the devil-fish’s daughter, in another. The canoes were magical, and sped along of themselves. Soon they reached his father’s town by the aid of the enchanted craft. He had brought much wealth with him from the devil fish kingdom, and with this he traded and became a great chief. Then his children found him and came to him. They were grown up, and to celebrate his home-coming he held a great feast. Five great feasts he held, one after another, and at each of them his children and his human wife were present.

But the devil-fish wife began to pine for the sea-life. One day while her husband and she sat in his father’s house he began to melt. At the same time the devil-fish wife disappeared betwixt the planks of the flooring. Her husband then assumed the devil-fish form, and a second soft, slimy body followed the first through the planks. The devil-fish wife and her husband had returned to her father’s realm.

Heads up folks.   We lost power the other day.   It's been just over 24 hours.   We're back online now, and I'm back to writing up the next posts...  I appreciate your patience.

Picking portraits is one of the most fun parts of RPoL. :D

Hey boss, I'm not quite sure where to take that scene with Sebastian. Pretty sure we'll be able to figure out what to do with the info eventually, but...is there anything dangling you'd really like us to ask expository questions about? :P

Also, did you nuke the old Moonrise Cafe thread to start this new one? Can't find it. Was hoping to dig up what Mona was drinking before, since it's been a while. Furthermore, is this new Moonrise Cafe thread a more present-day in-continuity thing, rather than being all past and nebulous like before?

I'd also love to jump in. I know the character isn't 100% nailed down, but I figure 85% is okay?

One of the things I like most about Fate (both Core and Accelerated) is that the bare minimum you need to get going is a High Concept, Trouble, top three Skills/Approaches, and some people say a Stunt. I'd say you're way ready to hop in, mechanically. All we really need is to connect you to the rest of us somehow.

Hi guys;  My apologies for the big delay.   Our family experienced a bit of a medical crisis and I've spent most of the past week in Ontario, dealing with family and estate stuff.  While things ended up better than expected, it was still exhausting.   I've just gotten home.  So, I'll try to get back on track tonight/tomorrow.

My mind's not 100% in the game, but giving me stuff to focus on is probably a good thing...

And yes!  oh god, yes!  James!

Let's get you up and going right away!

I'll put something together IC for you shortly.

Easiest vector into the game is to have him appear in 03.01, The Moonrise Cafe thread.

We can work out a back-story/relations, etc as we go.

[medical crisis] + [estate stuff] = [oh shit]

I always pick the BEST moments to bump the threads, don't I?

I was thinking that it might be interesting for me to wind up angling in to the group, moving from eavesdropper (you said I shared an office with someone they spoke to recently?) to investigator to allies of necessity. But yes, take all the time you need!

Okay.  I've dealt with most of my personal crap now.  And I've got three days off with nothing more pressing than laundry and grocery-shopping.   So, I'm working on moving us forward now.

That all being said...

How do y'all feel about just bypassing a lot of Willa's discussion, and finding something to do?

Truth is, I've grown a little disassociated with Willa, and I need to do something to make her interesting to me.  So, I think I'm going to have her husband disappear...  Give her a focus, y'know.

I'm thinking that if Willa is basically revealing that there is some strange group in town, and that they seem to be going after people with talent (or perhaps it's just you guys), it makes sense that she'd want to start getting in contact with everybody in town that the group can think of, to try to unite everyone...  The start of the Paranet Resistance in Seattle, perhaps?

Your thoughts?

It occurs to me that I didn't follow up on this game...

A week after I flew home from Ontario, one of my mothers went into septic shock and died.  I'm kinda bummed that I wasn't there at the end, but at least I got to spend a little time recently.  Emotionally, I've been better, but I'm through the worst of it now, I think.

However... I totally understand if your engagement with this game has disappeared.
Realistically...  If I've already lost you, I don't want to putter around for weeks or months trying to revive the game.

So... is it worth moving forward?  Are you still with us?

That's a hard thing to deal with.

I'm still on board, boss, but I'm finding it difficult to really be proactive in a game like this. I'm not really sure what's going on or how to find out what's going on, and we're picking up a lot of very disparate information that I simply don't know what to do with. Unfortunately, I'm not as skilled with all the investigative things as the characters we're portraying should be. What's a logical next step? Have we found everything we needed to from Strauss? That scene never exactly ended. What about the Cafe scene? I had a few questions about that which I don't think got answered.

I'd be all for finding something to do, especially if James is still with us and needs a way into our lives. Though...poor Willa. First her husband gets put into a magic coma, and now he's gonna die? Seems like piling tragedy on top of tragedy needlessly to me, boss.

So what I'm wondering now is...who do we have?

Yeah, I am looking for who's here and who's still active.  If it's only one or two of you, we might consider dropping you into the New York group--if that's an option you'd consider.

Aren't they in a totally different time and everything? I mean, I suppose, but that'd mean I'd be playing two characters. Also the tone over here is different, a bit tighter. Thusfar much less in the way of turnover. I wouldn't mind keeping smaller and more focused over here. Open Season's starting to feel more like an MMO, with people dropping in and out all the time.

New York
Yes, the New York story is pre-"Changes".  That means, red-court is largely in control of New York City.   The story there (post streamlining) will probably deal with a rogue magical group and a group of clandestien ghouls.

That game had a bad run of people who applied, got through character creation, received a first-post then went silent...  I get that my style is not everyone's cup of tea.  But it is damned demoralizing to get that back to back.  It makes me question whether I should even be doing this anymore.  The group that's there now seems a bit more consistent.

With The Marshall and Gordon out of the picture, here, that leaves four on the rolls.  I left James hanging, so I don't know if he's still around or not.

The biggest trouble I'm finding here right now is that the group doesn't have a cohesive identity.  As a GM, I don't have a single threat for the group as a group to deal with.  I'd rather have you folks playing together than in separate threads all the time.  It's less work for me, and more chance to play with others for you.

Willa's thing in the Moonrise Cafe was intended to help define a group identity.  But... well...  So far, it's Willa and Gordon...  and Gordon's just dropped out.

If I were to consider scratching things and restarting another game, I'd make it a part of the back-story that you're all contractors or employees of someone, someone who would give specific directions and allow the characters to start out with short, linear engagements.   I can probably still do that with Willa.

Even with Mona's unusual occupation, she's certainly good for info-fetch quests. Whether Willa says "I need this info" or the GM says "Willa's in a position where she could use this info but doesn't necessarily know it yet, but your instincts for the job say that whisper over there is a pile of money," I'm okay with that kinda directness.

I was gonna bring myself into the Moonrise Cafe thread, but couldn't remember Mona's favorite drink. Pretty sure the original thread is gone, or else I just can't find it. I can make something new, though. We definitely do need some group cohesion, even if we don't restart things from scratch.

Honestly, we do all have a common enemy, but that common enemy is not a thing we wanna screw with, Fomori are freaky and powerful. Also freaky powerful.

I'd group-9'd the original Moonrise Cafe thread.  Too much presence of a dominating PC who caused too much drama.  I'd just as soon not even have reference to that character even existing.   I've group-1'd the thread.

I'm running off to a meeting.  Back in a few hours.

I'd actually dropped the big bad's name in Gordon's thread with Gundram... but with Gordon out of the picture...  well, I guess he's going to stick around as a NPC for a bit.  Crap.
That's another problem with a bunch of solo threads.  I drop information in one and then that player drops and that information never gets passed on...

Morg.  Though who or what Morg is wasn't revealed.

So...  I'm going to put Willa in more of an active coordinator's role.  The kidnapping and/or death of her husband, while sad (yeah) is a fantastic catalyst for pissing her off and committing her to doing something about it.

The Fomori *or Morg in particular, anyway) is a pretty big bad.   So, the need to scour the Seattle to find other supernaturals who will stand with you...   And one big faction might or might not be Sebastian Strauss' lover's people, the Tsing't.  Right now, they could go either way... they could be the big bad or a great ally against the big bad.  Narratively, there's a lot of wiggle room.

Thanks for the post in the Moonrise cafe.  Hopefully, we can stir Luke and Marcus up...
