A reminder...
I know this should go without saying, so please forgive me if it's overkill.  But I wanted to remind that as players we have access to a lot of information on the denizens of the world.  Your character probably doesn't know so much.

Since this is a Fate Accelerated game and there is no formal "Knowledge" or "Lore" skill to roll with, I will occasionally challenge you on knowledge.  The drama inherent in this is:
  • You know it
  • You don't know it OR you think you know it and the wrong information may make a difference.

So..if one's Force is high.  Does that mean the Power of magical spell is high (similar to conviction?)

It CAN... Force being high is a characters method of approach for things (ie muscle/brawn/personality as opposed to finesse/precision/tact)

Well, obviously Force is a last resort...

If it isn't, you didn't resort to enough of it!  :-D

A reminder...
There isn't one specific Approach that is used for Evocation.

Let's give a few examples to illustrate.  A spell-caster is outside the wrought-iron gate of a cemetary that is locked up for the night.  She needs in.  Four our purposes, we're going to say that all of the examples use magic somehow.  She might:
  • Roll Focus to manipulate the teeth of the lock to open the lock...
  • Roll Flair to leap over the wall
  • Roll Force to blast the gates open
  • Roll Guile to convince the groundskeeper to open it up for her

On the other hand,  Focus is often (but not exclusively) a default fall-back for preparing for a Ritual spell.

Astrid Fallen?
Astrid is having difficulty.  She has requested to leave the game due to an injury that directly affects her ability to type.   I've pointed her to a couple of online speech-to-text sites that may help, but the choice is still hers.

If she still wants out, Astrid will be off the table.

Astrid is off the table.

Forget about her.  She never existed.

Astrid Fallen?
My professional expertise indicates that our minds may have been tampered with.  I seem to have a hole in the rough shape of a person...female....in my mind.

Astrid Fallen?
Admittedly, I would like another female character on-board.

Astrid Fallen?
So, in discussing a potential stunt / aspect / etc... with Agnes, Gordon noted that his character is a MD.

It is my understanding that the Spell-Caster mantles don't allow for taking on elements of the Mortal mantles.  I presume that's for power-balance reasons within the game. Narratively, I can see arguments for one being a certified master at one thing (Medicine) and magic at the same time means they have little to no life.  Some of you have actual real-world experience with medical school, and can speak (far better than I can) on the rigors of that particular course of training.

That aside (because this is fiction and a game, dammit!), how do you all feel about advancing the characters a Milestone or two?   This would allow Agnes and Gordon to take on the Medical License Condition and one or more associated Stunts.   If you're not Agnes or Gordon, it would allow you to advance as per the (Default/Accelerated) Advancement Rules for Major Milestones on Pp 197.

Major Milestones
Achieving a major milestone confers the benefits of a significant milestone and a minor milestone. In addition, you may do any or all of the following:
  • Take an additional point of refresh
  • Spend a refresh to add a stunt to your mantle.
  • Spend a refresh to add a condition to your mantle.

The trade-off here is that I want a capsule story about what happened in this major milestone of your character's life.   It doesn't need to be directly related to the specific Condition/Stunt that you want to spend the additional refresh on, but it should play to at least one of the Conditions/Stunts you have on-board already.

So... your thoughts?

Advanced characters
Certainly worth looking at. I hadn't really put a lot of thought into how I want Luke to advance (PbP games rarely get that far), but I'll put some thought into it and write up a story.

Happy enough to advance, will a couple of Milestones be enough for them to pick up all the needed stunts though? The way that reads it's 1 Refresh earned with first then can spend it with the other, is that correct?

Advanced characters
I have no interest playing a character with a medical license.   I *am* a medical licensed character in real life.  I like combat medic because it's kind of a retro/combat type thing.  I like the idea of Agnes focused on healing/bandaging someone while trolls throw giant rocks around her..

But if I get extra stunts, I'm probably going with Extra Boom or Awesome Sharp Sword.  :o)

Fair enough.

I asked this question as a possible means of accommodating your desire for Combat Medic...   If you don't want to go there, that's okay.  But I would rather not raise the power level.

I'm not sure what this means.  I don't get the "retro/combat" reference.  Sorry.

I don't feel that you need a stunt for this.  As stated in your character thread, you could use an Aspect to assist  (you have already suggest COMBAT MEDIC), but even that isn't strictly necessary.  I think Agnes can choose to try to heal people on the battlefield with her magics.  Besides, not having an elevated knowledge of medicine, anatomy, etc. will make for some fun and interesting costs, when succeed with minor cost or succeed with serious cost come into play.

I'd like to have a stunt the fills in some EMT or WWII movie/MASH type stuff.    IDK, maybe just take the anatomy stunt and use the compel to limit those 'fun' costs?

Sorry folks.

I was looking for feedback/thoughts on implementing the advancement.  I hadn't come to that decision yet.  Given the direction of the conversation the advancement is off the table.

Let's just keep it as described in the book.

Re: Advanced characters
I am ok with the current power levels.  Gordon's MD won't really come into play.  I wouldn't trust most of the psychiatrists I know to put on a bandaid.  They are highly specialized that way.  That being said, he has anatomy and basic medical understanding so if I do decide to take him that way down the road, the base is there.

No worries Control. Heck I've not sorted my own mantle yet so worrying about doing more to it seems optimistic.

The Transformer == Tornados in Oz
The Duwamish and many other tribes in the area have stories about The Transformer, who was responsible for the mountains and the rivers, the forests and the languages of the tribes...  It's said that he stopped when he came to the sea and saw how beautiful it was...

I have no desire to bring the Transformer into the story, but it might be a justification for the Tornados that seem to scoop people up and drop them into Oz...

Founding Oz - Wyld Free-hold?
We've established that Oz is a freehold, and thus more associated with Wyld Fae than Summer or Winter.

Queen Lurline is supposed to have been a Queen of the Fairies and is credited with enchanting the Land of Oz centuries ago so that it became a fairy country. Granted this is from Wikipedia, so our mileage may vary.  I'm not set on keeping accuracy with L Frank Baum's work.

We have, however, been bandying about the idea of autumn/spring courts...   So, what if Lurline was one of those courts?

It seems apropos for Oz to have been a Spring holding than an Autumn holding.  This probably plays well for The Marshall's ties with Oz.  Subdued courts need to stick together...

I am particularly interested as Marcus is going with a Knight of the Fae Courts mantle...  It is important to me to know what's behind his powers...

Any thoughts?
