Tham shrugged his shoulders and took the new dagger in his hand and went and splashed the water to try to draw them to him.

As the first shark drew near, he channeled his inner energy through the new dagger in his hand and shot what he'd expected to be lightning into the water but felt very strange instead.

A bit of the power still bounces, carrying further through the water and hits the second for a small amount of strange damage as well.

OOC: Yay for rolling max damage :)
Target 1 = 17 damage

The fins slash as the necrotic energy arcs into the creatures. They move to the far side of the pool, but continue circling.

Each of the three sharks will stay as far away as possible until bloodied. Once one is bloodied, it will attack, leaping completely out of the pool if necessary.

After being necrotized by Tham for a while, the sharks have apparently decided that they've had enough. As one, they turn and arrow straight for Tham at the edge of the pool.

Jil sucks in a breath. "Are you kiddin' me with this?" says Brunok.

Brunok: Holding Betsy's head, behind behind everyone.

Tham sees the intent of the sharks and wonders why exactly they hadn't moved before. He drew his other dagger and started running, daggers in both hands back away from the tank.

"Albers back up! As soon as they break the surface, I'm going to make them burn."

Tham, moves to just in front of Jil and Betsy.
Readies an action to cast Explosive Pyre, but won't cast it if Albers stays by the pit. He'll do another Lightning Bolt instead.

'Um, I thought the idea was to stun them rather than enrage them?' Albers points out, entirely unimpressed by Tham running behind him and leaving him to deal with the three charging sharks alone, even if it does make tactical sense. He's terrified of sharks, but hoping no-one notices.

He moves his feet around the edge of the pool looking for a solid bit of ground in which to make a stand, and finds a deeper section that will channel the charging sharks. He shifts and leans one leg against an outcrop and thrusts his blade out at an angle.

'I'll try and hold them - but Tham, you're going to need to do your blasty stuff real quick.'

The sharks charge across the pool at Albers, towards the doorway into the hall, thrashing the water into foam with their tails. To reach the architect, the creatures launch themselves out of their holding pool and splash onto the floor, where the water is too shallow for them - but appears to be rising!

The width of the hallway means that only two of the sharks can reach Albers and, their teeth bared and their eyes rolled back, they snap at him. One shark manages to give Albers something to think about but Alber's makes an effective move of his own. Somewhere, Albers' tailor rolls over in his sleep and has dreams of yet another lucrative repair job from the tiefling.

At this point, you can see that these sharks have been bred to have stronger, bonier pectoral fins, and have additional fins further back along their bodies. They seem to be able to use these to achieve a form of locomotion out of the water. Doesn't House Vadalis have anything better to do than make sharks more horrid?

Leaving Jil to hold Betsy up off the sopping floor, Bruno splashes up behind Tham. "Hey, buddy, could you use a hand?" He puts up a hand to steady Tham, and surreptitiously lifts the bag of diamonds from him.

"Could we use a hand, yes, I would say we could use a hand, unless you would like to be shark bait."

Tham discharges another blast of necrotic lightning at the shark that got a bite in on Albers and the energy leaped at wounded the one next to it as well. He wished he could do more to keep them at bay but unless Albers lept back, Albers would most likely get caught in any of his more blasty powers.

"Now get in there and make sure Albers doesn't die and we don't become fish food."

Moving on its stumpy leg fins, shark 1 (you can see now that the natural coloration of each shark has been somehow congenitally manipulated into the shapes of identification numbers. Criminy.) shifts to the side, making way in the hallway for one of it allies. It's having some trouble breathing outside its pool, but the water is still rising.

The shark is angling toward Tham, but it recognizes Albers as prey and maneuvers in such a way as to give one of its mates (in the buddy sense, if not the reproductive sense) a better angle of attack.

Shark 2 is right perplexed, but even Vadalis hasn't figured out how to breed sharks with more than the tiniest, hungriest brains, so it keeps snapping at Albers, or where it thinks Albers might be.

Shark C (sic, look even Vadalis breeders aren't perfect) slides into the hallway to attack but clamps its jaws on nothing as it loses its footing.

Brunok points back at Jil, who is having trouble keeping Betsy upright; the rising water means she can't put the woman down. "Hey, chief, you'd better go help her. Take the lady to Mariok, in High Walls," he tells you a tower, level and rough location, "I'll help the other guy!" So saying, he pushes forward to just behind Albers and waves a dagger at shark 1, keeping it at bay.

Tham takes to the water like a fish and while he knows he needs to help Jil and Betsy out, he also knows that he can't leave his friend Albers in a lurch and he shoots another bolt of necrotic lightning out, targeting one of the sharks and watching the energy pulse out and kill the one he'd hit the previous round as well!

The necrotized sharks stiffen and begin to decay almost immediately, fouling the water. The last shark is still in a feeding frenzy.

Even Albers – usually the most trusting and unobservant person at every party – can see what’s going on here. ‘Tham’ he hisses. ‘Come on! Wake up. That fkhu just stuck his paw in your pocket. You need to deal with this N.O.W.’ All this hissed – and really angry.

Albers is really angry. Tham was always the physically weaker one among the duo, but Albers can’t count how many times Tham has saved him from terrible situations. Bright, quick, and fun - this is Albers’ best friend. And the idea that this btich hobgoblin would rob him when these sharks were attacking made Albers’ blood run cold – this was WAR.

He wants to focus on Betsy and saving her and getting to the tower and discovering the roots of all these mysteries – but … he HATES when anyone fkuscs with Tham. He’ll let Tham start this, out of respect for his friend; Albers will follow. But if Tham hesitates Albers will act. Like a hammer.

Shark C (or "Sharksy," as his late handler used to call him) darts forward to bite at Albers, really tearing into his intricate partywear, which by itself would be painful enough to the tiefling.

Brunok, steps up, appearing to willingly accept the challenge Albers threw at him. "I knew that you and me, we'd have a showdown before too long. I guess this is it." A shiv flashes out, ripping into Albers's outfit and somehow tangling in there, hindering the architect's movement and his ability to block the goblin's attacks.

'Guess so Brunok' answers Albers grimly as he takes multiple hits, squaring up to the goblin leader. 'Better to sort this out here and now, before we get to your tower.'

Albers is not aiming to kill Brunok, who he needs to taken them to the Daask tower. He only wants to best him in combat, so that Brunok realises who the real boss is! (Note: all Albers attacks are non-lethal damage, and if Albers reduces Brunok to 0hp, Brunok will be dazed, but conscious and perfectly able to continue the mission with them all).

Watching as the goblin he'd trusted to attack the sharks, turned on Albers and stabbed him, Tham let out a massive scream and with it a blast of necrotic fire that centered on Brunok.

He did his best to hold Jil and Betsy up, but he knew Albers was in trouble and now was the time to make sure his best friend didn't die.

Unwilling to let that be all and seeing how dire the situation was, Tham unleashed another bolt of necrotic lightning but Brunok was too fast for his aim.

Albers hisses as his pants are shredded and he loses his footing in the water. He flails as he is bitten and stabbed, the shallow pool turning red around him. He submerges himself under completely, twists his feet around brunok’s legs, and rotates, dragging the goblin down with him. A moment later, after some thrashing, he rises from the water holding Brunok by the scruff of the neck.

‘You’ll take us to your tower and help us save Betsy – and no more bullshit from you Brunok’, he hisses at the dangling goblin.

Divine Mettle – save vs malus
Valorous Smite – hit AC 19 for 18 dmg, ‘kill’ Brunok.

(IC) Party Animals
For just a moment, Shark C pauses in its mad frenzy, and a glimmer of magebred awareness flickers in its otherwise dead, staring eyes. What am I doing, it seems to ask itself, I'm better than this.

Then the moment passes. The shark blasts out of the water and slams into Albers, then disappears with him under the red-foamed water.

Tham's heart sinks with Alber's body. "NOOOO!" He'd chosen protecting Jil and Betsy instead of going to help his best friend and now he was dead, a bloody mess in the water with a crazed shark.

His sadness shot out of the daggers in the form of another lightning bolt at the shark and though it hit, it was less effective than it had been. His sadness clearly showing.

Tham's lightning jolts the shark away from its two ready meals and draws it toward what some part of its brain must recognize as the primary threat. Darts down the hallway toward the sorcerer. In its mad rush it almost bites down on a piece of floating debris instead, giving Tham a split second to find a way to defend himself.

Re: (IC) Party Animals
At the last second, the powers of the storm brush aside the vicious attack from the Shark. Tham is getting very nervous about his prospects and that of Albers, Jil and Betsy, but he slashes out infusing the blade he's wielding with the power of the Lightning Strikes he's been using. Unfortunately his anxiety causes a slight slip and he just misses delivering a blow to the shark.

OOC: I didn't update the stat block last time, sorry, I am subtracting last round's 11 HP but sadly I didn't hit this round...

Albers gurgles as he slowly sinks into the shallow water. He thrusts a clenched hand straight up above the surface, like the flag from a submerged ship. A final symbol of defiance, maybe. Or just a love of drama.

Succeeded death saving throw roll 1, still dying.

Re: (IC) Party Animals
The shark thrashes around trying to get an angle on Tham. Unless it's dealt with soon, it will have Tham where it wants him.

Some part of Tham's perception notices Jil splashing up behind him, yelling something about blood. Well, yeah, no kidding.

Shark C:
Standard: 07:36, Today: GM, for the NPC Shark C, rolled 25 using 1d20+12.  Bite (with aquatic) vs. AC of Tham (with storm soul). Hit.
07:36, Today: GM, for the NPC Shark C, rolled 23 using 2d8+7.  Bite damage.

Jil:
Prop Betsy's head above the water. Move up to Tham to try to find a vial of dragon's blood.

Re: (IC) Party Animals
Not realizing what she's after, Tham motions for Jil to stay back. He hopes this awful shark will be satisfied with a dinner of Albers Brunok and a bit of Tham on the side and leave the two women alone.

He thrusts out the dagger in his hand and releases the Lightning into the water, but the shark has grown used to this tactic and deftly dodges it.

OOC: 15:43, Yesterday: Tham d'Lyrandar (jkeogh) rolled 9 using 1d20+8.  Lightning Strike to Hit Reflex.

Re: (IC) Party Animals
The shark doesn't relent. Far from it, Tham's state has driven it into a fury of slashing teeth and thrashing pseudo-limbs. The weight of the beast drives Tham under the water. He feels hands grabbing at him, but then feels not much of anything for a little while.

Shark C:
Standard: 17:26, Today: GM, for the NPC Shark C, rolled 30 using 1d20+12.  Bite (with aquatic) vs. AC of Tham. Hit.
17:32, Today: GM, for the NPC Shark C, rolled 18 using 2d8+11.  Bite damage (with blood frenzy).
