Welcome to the game!

Do you know of any character sheet template we could use on RPOL? I guess I could try to create something myself, but it won't look pretty.

We will choose bonds once the group is finalized. For now, can you handle character creation by yourself?

I'll work on character creation as soon as possible.  As far as character sheets go.   We could do something freeform.  I'll see if there are any Dungeon World Character generators out there.

Just a question, are you going to have the elven fighter move, the human one or do you want to homebrew a special half-elf one?

Hello! Eager to be playing with you all. I am Crow, the bard!

She was the 7th born and 3rd daughter of a middling aristocratic house. They have a large estate that produces partially agriculture and primarily salt from a salt cavern along with the usual income of rent. Their heraldry is a white griffin on a cobalt blue shield and their distinctive feature is a genetic disposition to light hair that goes white in childhood, as though from age.

As she was so far down the line of inheritance she wound up being sent to a convent, as was fashionable to do. She was somewhat educated, when she wasn't getting into trouble for shenanigans, misadventure, and flirting with the other young convent converts. She did take choir seriously and her other indiscretions were largely forgiven as she was found to have an 'angelic' singing voice. Not only is it beautiful, captivating, but the mother superior confirmed that she could sing down divine light to heal wounds. She also showed an interest in history; particularly those to do with heroes and adventurers, fallen kingdoms, places of power, ruins, and so on.

Her ability to work miracles through song brought the convent some amount of fame but it was not fated to last; she became stifled and moody when she felt she was being used. In her more glum moods she could rarely work her song into spells and bad things were sometimes wrought when she was forced to try and failed. The worst was when she attracted the attention of a ghost that took up residence in the belfry.

No one was particularly surprised when she disappeared after coming to adulthood. She took the alias 'Crow', cut her long hair to a short and fashionable men's style, and began to travel. In more conservative steadings she is largely taken for a male, most populations in general being more ready to accept a young, male, playboy with an excess of feminine beauty about the face than they are to accept a short haired, adventurous minstrel woman flirting with their daughters. Her slim, curve lacking body and loose clothing, as well as her smoky voice helps convince them this way, and she typically doesn't correct someone using male pronouns to refer to her.

Somewhere around there it stops being background and there's definitely some need to interact with other characters, get wrapped up in their things.

Following is a list of names and places. She probably isn't open about this but I'm happy for the players to know:

ARVEDANYA aristocratic house.
 parents-
Tomas (57, m) - owner of the estate- Politician
Herlie (38, f) - Tomas's current wife, manages the personal estate

 older siblings-
Solas (35, m) and his wife, Gwyth formerly of house Veneve- Politician
Ruperne (34, m), confirmed bachelor- Scholar
Brige (32, f), now Brige Veneve after marriage to Coledo Veneve- Courtier
Killian (29, m) (just happens to have the same name as the PC Killian) and his wife, Carikin formerly of house Pensey- Advocate (lawyer)
 Eilin (25, f), Priestess
Artagh (22, m), Sport Hunter (think rich guy with dogs and horses, not rangers)

 Edeling (20, f) - Crow

 younger siblings-
 Boury (16, m)
 Amlaine (13, f)

If you want me to come up with the religion to whose convent she was sent I was actually thinking of something fairly earth-like. a monotheistic belief in a great supernatural being with intercessor angels and saints. I'm not very convinced one way or the other though and if anyone (paladin?) has some other ideas about a regional religion I'm super willing to listen. If not, I can get to brass tacks and make some details.

Here's my short concept from my RTJ:
Warrior priestess of the ocean goddess. She's a water animator kind of like the water benders in avatar. I picture her as stereotypically Scottish, with red hair and moods that can flip on a dime. Her family was framed and wrongfully imprisoned by some local duke and she seeks justice.

Her family were seafaring merchants. She was just a girl when the calamity happened to her parents and the local church of the ocean goddess took her in. She showed quite an affinity to the water spirits and rapidly advanced through training. It is the nature of this church to send their disciples out to travel the world and do the Goddess's work. Tempest took the opportunity to try to track down the man that messed with her family.

I could definitely see her connecting with Crow. Sounds like Crow's church is a different one from mine, but there's definitely an opportunity to be traveling companions.

Sounds cool, Tempest! What playbook is that? I could see us being pals! :D

The Duke probably wouldn't be from the Arvedanya house but it would be interesting if it was either from house Veneve or Pensey, which Arvedanya is connected to through marriage.

Hey everyone! Looking forward to roleplaying with you all! :D

Deloreah von Kreis is the adopted daugther of the aged spymaster Joran von Kreis. She and her twin brother Silas, spent the first decade of their lives as street urchins and thieves. The old man met the twins upon discovering that the infamous catburglar, Stillbreeze, was nothing more than a clever ruse put on by the children involving a fashionable pair of mens' boots, mysterious love letters left on the balcony's of desperate house wives, a rather exotic bottle of cologne, and a stuffed pidgeon. Astounded by their resourcefulness, misdirected though it was, and having witnessed the awful circumstances that led to their life of crime, von Kreis took the two in as his apprentices.

The next ten years of Deloreah's life was spent learning the arts of her adopted father's trade. She and her brother learned to fight, move without being heard, infiltrate castles, and, above all, how to live in refined society. Before long, the old man was sending the two on missions using the spy monikers Patience, for Deloreah, and Silence, for Silas. Master von Kreis had a particular interested in rare, and often magic items, believing it his personal responsibility to ensure too much power never falls into the wrong hands.

Things took a turn for the worse, however, when during a particularly dangerous mission, Silence was discovered and taken as a perminant hostage by a powerful wizard known as Maldred. For three years now, Patience has been seeking to free her brother from the wizard's clutches.

The standard bonds for Thief actually look pretty interesting to me:

I stole something from _______.
______ has my back when things go wrong.
______ knows incriminating details about me.
______ and I have a con running.

I think I have a proposition for you Crow. Deloreah and Silas wouldn't have known to read and write while they were urchins, so they would have had to outsource the letter writing to someone with elegant handwriting and exposure to the classical romances. Perhaps Crow was the real Stillbreeze all along...(dum dum DUM!)...at least for the writing part? And if that's true, perhaps Stillbreeze to this day still works his wiles on unsuspecting noblewomen from time to time? :)

And for Tempest, I saw this Bond under Paladin that could probably apply to Patience. :)

______’s misguided behavior endangers their very soul!

Might be able to expand on it a little more if you're interested.

Here's my character concept:

Killian is a scarred, one-eyed warrior with dark hair and and a rangy, athletic body.  He learned to fight when
he was conscripted during his late teens.  During his conscription, he developed a knack for fighting with two weapons, rather than a two-handed sword, or sword-and-shield.

Killian inherited elven blood from his mother's side.  The commingling was said to be violent, and better forgotten.  Killian roved about quite a bit after he deserted.  He resorted to petty theft, skullduggery, and other acts of brigandage.  He eventually became a member of a mercenary band called the Broken Blades.  They recently disbanded, however, and Killian his looking for new prospects.

Here is my basic concept so we might figure some thing out while I flesh it out more.

A young man of noble birth, yet of no wealth. His Grandfather was titled and landed but was disposed of all wealth which went with it. So his father became a Blademaster and fencing instructor to those who could afford it. Learning the art of the blade and training for it all of his life, he became an Arcane Duelist.

Young Valaric became a duelist and adventurer, utilizing the only real skill and passion he had learned from his father, The Blade.

I may have killed a relative of   Crows                     at some point in the past.

Tempest                    broke up a fight I was involved in. I was probably going to lose, but they don’t need to know that part.

Killian                   and I are regular training partners

"Patience once set me up in a duel and bet against me and lost a lot of money when I won. She still can't let it go."

The fourth Arcane Duelist bond is as unpopular as ever, I see :)

Remember, "X seems like they would fold at the first sign of trouble. I don’t trust them." doesn't automatically mean it's an objective truth. You might think the Wizard is just a bookworm only suited to reading dusty tomes in a library and can't handle a good fight or that the Thief is a shifty guy more interested in saving his own skin then other people's well-being.

If you want to use some other bond, I'd prefer if you made one yourself instead of taking it from some other class, mostly because Patience has that same Bond as a Thief.

Like for example:

"Patience has something I desire, yet refuses to share it."

or

"Patience and I often spar verbally."

or

"Patience once bet against me in a duel and lost a lot of money when I won. She still can't let it go."

or

"Patience reminds me of a love long lost."

I'm tracking more towards a cleric than a paladin at this point. More precisely, a waterbender like from Avatar. Here's what I was thinking for bonds. Took some negative ones here to spice it up a little

 __Crow__ does not understand my faith and devotion. I will help
them understand, no matter how long it takes.

 __________ has been through hardships that would break me. They
can stand against the darkness I see looming over the world.

 __Killian__ has insulted my devotion. I do not trust them.

 __________ is a good and faithful person. I trust them implicitly.

 __________ showed me true insights into the path I must follow.

 I am working on getting __________ to share my ideals.

 I have heard of __Valaric__’s exploits and am suitably impressed.

 I have shared the secrets of my devotion with __________.

 __Patience__ has been touched by the primal elements and I will find
out why.

Non related question. Right now i have my two +1s in dex and con and my +2 in cha. Should I go +1 in int and wis instead and be more of support? In combat I think I can do much more good with arcane art, especially since i plan to buy the upgrades.

Will having me singing in the background rather than firing arrows bug anyone?

Oh, charisma is getting the +2 in either case. I'm talking more about the secondary +1s. This will make her better at discerning realities and spouting lore than being tough and agile. I just wanted to poll you guys on it because in theory, you'll have to take up the slack. I won't be able to have as much hp or defy danger.

Arcane art, if I take all the upgrades for it, can get very very good. At level 8 it'll be something like 3d8 healing AND extra +3d4 to damage for the target, and I can double one of those. So 3d8 healing/+6d4 damage or 6d8 healing/3d4 damage. Her voice will be powerful :3

This is not my first "adventure" with ___Patience____.

I sang stories of ____Killian____ long before I ever met them in person.

_______________ is often the butt of my jokes.

I am writing a ballad about the adventures of ____Valaric____.

____Tempest____ trusted me with a secret.

_______________ does not trust me, and for good reason.

----------------------------------------

So, here's my thoughts on this. The one with Patience as kids, the Stillbreeze thing is fairly obvious. It might not have been super obvious to Patience that Crow is the same as Edeling Arvedanya, considering back then Edeling was in cute dresses and had long ringlet hair.

I think Killian is an interesting, archetypal figure. The rough, one eyed wanderer. Crow may have made a series of not necessarily entirely true songs featuring him getting out of any situation by killing everything, even some situations where you wouldn't think that killing everything would be a solution.

She knew that the Killian saga wasn't as popular as it could be because she didn't know the subject well enough. In investigating Valaric for the ballad, however, she may be accidentally getting close to discovering why her favorite Uncle disappeared?

Tempest, tempest, tempest, why would you ever entrust a secret to a bard? I wonder what it was!

Crow, Your relative killed by me in duel may be one you don't like also. Am thinking the 2 noble lines you mentioned earlier may have been the ones to of caused my family to lose their lands and wealth. two generations ago, I just got lucky and got some revenge and might be still inclined so we could always hook up to cause them some trouble in varying forms.

I meant characters. Okay, I kinda imagined him being older so that death would have been fairly recent. Hmm. I think Crow was in convent from 10-16 and travelling 16-20. So if it happened in the last year or two she probably wouldn't even know about it. I think we should leave some of the specifics up to "Play to Find Out" but the general feeling I get is that maybe it was her mother's brother and Crow liked him as a kid but didn't know something about him that would change her opinion.

It's your funeral...I mean...Bond *cough cough* so I'll leave the decision to you, but the secret sounds more interesting to me.

That said, I wouldn't mind also saying that Patience met Valaric after betting against him and losing terribly. No better way for her to learn the true value of his skills than to lose money over it. :)

In reply to Crow (msg # 32):

Patience is probably 18 or so I'd wager.

I suppose my bonds will look something like this:

I stole something from Tempest.

Perhaps some sort of holy symbol? Perhaps the primal elements within reacted in an unusual way (negatively/positively) to Patience touching it and Tempest has been trying to figure out why? If so, Patience has probably been terrified of the thing ever since.

Killian has my back when things go wrong.

Perhaps the two teamed up for the first time when they were both down on their luck. I saw you mentioned that Killian resorted to skullduggery at one time. This happens to be Patience's forte. At very least they could be epic drinking buddies. :)

Valaric has something I want, yet refuses to share it.

This was suggested to avoid using the same bond over again. I'm gonna keep brainstorming about this one for the moment. Let me know if you have any ideas Valaric.

Crow and I have a con running.

As revealed above....Crow is the real Stillbreeze (dun, dun, DUN!). The old con works so well that the two have never retired it. :)

Additionally, Crow, I read your comments in msg #18 and I agree with everything. Perhaps Edeling and Deloreah (Reah?) refer to each other by their real names in more intimate settings? Perhaps Patience still hold to the childhood tradition of gifting Crow with little novelties and oddities she picks up from here and there.

Patience, I suspect that perhaps Killian saved your hide during a botched a caper of some sort.  Maybe an old enemy tried to get the drop on you and Killian intervened.

Killian definitely has a soft sport of you, Crow.  Your inquisitive nature intrigues and humors him.

Tempest, you are a bit of an unknown quantity to Killian.  Perhaps you'll prove him wrong.

Valaric, Killian is partially serious.  He wants to see you fight with less honor.  The dirty fighter usually wins, he often tells you.

I repurposed Killian a bit.  He's a fighter with a big heart.

Killian has spent the last decade selling his sword and placing one foot in front of the other.  He's scarred, one-eyed, and grim in aspect.   Sometimes the clouds part,  however, and a snarl of a grin splits his face.   There's more tooth and growl than laugh in his laughter.  Killian is more soft-hearted than he lets on.  His loyalty to his pack is wolf-fierce.  Woe to any who threaten his friends.

THE SERΛPHIC CHURCH

The great creator god, whose name is Lost and Forgotten, sacrificed itself as part of the creation of reality and everything. It spilled its divine fire upon the naked world and created life while its clear blood became water. Its power emanated among the sky to become the homes of the Seraphim, the Watchers, and the Emanations. The 10 Emanations keep the universe creating itself, cyclically; a process. The Seraphim are distinct beings presiding over Concepts and the host of Watchers are celestial creatures that enforce Will.

Over the centuries the Seraphic Church has moved along with the crusading kingdom it was attached to, subsuming the pieces of other religions into itself. Wizardry and magic also has a place inside of it, along with 'scientific' learning, alchemy, history, the occult, and astrology; it is sometimes called the Church of Sorcery because of the way it is organized in ways that lend well to the top competing theories of magic and early on took on the role of shepherd to magic users. They don't make distinctions between arcane and divine magic but see it all as expressions of the same power.

So team, what are we thinking? Do we fight or does someone want to try something else? Patience is obviously spoiling for a fight after seeing barbarian hospitality at its finest, but I don't want to decide for the whole group.

DM, are you okay with us discussing what we want to do OOC so long as we promise not to leave any gaping hole in the narrative or metagame? Would you prefer we talk about these sort of things in-character only?

Crow, I guess this could count for your Alignment. Mark XP and post it in the XP thread.

Remember, XP gains are double in this game, so you get 2.

Well, they were surprised by your action, since you were just in the middle of a negotiation, so it might not actually trigger a volley and you would just deal your damage. Then again, the description of Volley doesnt actually bring that up, unlike Hack and Slash.

Also, you fiddling with something under your cloak might tip them off and the priestess is not a standard mook.

I guess I will be evil, let you have the XP and try to think of what happens next.

Ok, so:

1) Does anyone feel like one of their Bonds is resolved?

2) Everyone, please answer these questions:

Did we learn something new and important about the world?

Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?

Did we loot a memorable treasure?

Now that I think about it, not sure how this not being Patience and Crow's first adventure would be resolved.

She did get a chance to help Killian, though, the guy she used to sing about.

Also this would make a nice verse in Valaric's ballad. His sword magic made a good showing and infernal rifts are exciting backdrops. Not sure it's fully Resolved though.

We learned that barbarians have some serious magic and I think it was notable as well. Also we did some good setting building questions.

Didn't loot anything, though.

A bond is resolved when it no longer describes how you relate to that person. That may be because circumstances have changed—Thelian used to have your back but after he abandoned you to the goblins, you’re not so sure. Or it could be because that’s no longer a question—you guided Wesley before and he owed you, but he paid that debt when he saved your life with a well-timed spell. Any time you look at a bond and think “that’s not a big factor in how we relate anymore” the bond is at a good place to resolve.

How About no end of session yet, instead we move to a suitable place to camp and heal up. There we can dialog a little, in the dialog and rest I can resolve almost all my bonds but mine require some downtime rp to resolve.

I was thinking along the same lines as Valaric. I mean, end the session, don't end the session, I'm not so sure that matters so much. But to move forward with Bonds, I feel like we would need to talk a few things out.

Re: OOC chat
Sorry, forgot to answer the questions.

Honestly, I'm not sure what else to add apart from what Crow already mentioned. I'm honestly not sure about the enemy we overcame. I feel like we would have to investigate and find out more about this barbarian tribe and the powers their priestesses wield to assess how notable our enemy was. The little bit discussed about Killian and his time spent in the north interests me. I'd be curious to discover how the various tribes interact with each other and which ones hold sway currently as well.

I quite enjoyed the beginning. It has created a lot of question that are hungry for answers.

Questions

We learned cold wraiths do exist and that only magic or fire harms them.

Tribes which worship the horned one, believe in ritual sacrifice VS trial by combat.

We defeated a small barbarian party of which one was a priestess who summoned some form of flame entity to destroy us.

Memorable loot, knowledge and our lives.

All of my bonds can be resolved if given a chance for camp dialog.

Re: OOC chat
Guys, just so you know, our august GM was kind enough to allow me to change Killian from a fighter to a new class called the blackguard.  Killian is essentially a fallen paladin. He's not evil, by any means.  But he resorted to darkness to destroy an enemy.  Not sure what the enemy is, but it was fearsome enough to drive Killian to abandon a life of virtue.

If it is alright with you, would like to continue in game thread while you are gone inter character dialog as if at a campsite recovering and healing. Just want to get them started so we can start interaction only one I want to resolve is either patience or tempest. Yours crow is going to require maybe a couple of sessions. Think next will be the other of patience or tempest whichever isn't resolved this round.

Have a plan for killians for level 3 move so will be working that out as well over session or 2.

Just want to get them started so that we have dialog or material to work off for the next 2 weeks in camp and in next session.
