Re: OoC Chat
Ok, Quinn, here you go...

Note: all of these attacks assume Antonís got no armor. You donít see any, so if he has any it would likely be light ballistic cloth (-1 dmg).

Multiple Attacks
Multiple attacks work like this. Do a normal attack. So because itís guns: Roll d6 + Shooting point spend. Antonís Hit Threshold is 3. So spending 2 guarantees a hit (roll 1? +2 = 3). Leaves you 6 points. That will do d6+1 dmg. His health is 10. Max damage from this hit? 7.

Second shot: pay 4 Shooting and 1 Stability (2 points shooting left). This ALLOWS the second attack, but doesnít add to your roll. So letís say you spend the last 2  to add to the roll. Another guaranteed hit. So another d6+1 dmg. D6+1 average is 4.5. So for both youíd likely do him 9 damage. Letís say you got max both times: 14 damage!

Another option: Called Shot
You could aim. It increases damage for increased difficulty. Head shot +2, so his TN would be 5 instead of 3 and it would do him 2 extra damage. D6+1+2. (6.5 average). Shoot him in chest? +3 TN/+3 dmg. So average 7.5. Max 10. Aim for his EYE? +4 TN/+4 DMG.

Letís say you aim for his eyeball. His TN would be 7 (3+4). Letís say you hit him. D6+1+4. Average 8.5, but max? 11! But youíd have to spend points to hit him. At MINIMUM 1 to even give you the chance and youíd have to roll a 6. Spending 4 points would mean youíd only miss on a 1.

Refresh
Also: Refresh by doing a ďTechnomonologue Thriller.Ē Here you just make a point to narrate what youíre doing in a cool way that maybe incorporates some gun lingo and you get a 3-point Shooting refresh. So you could spend those however after youíve earned them.

So Iíll leave it up to you.

Aimed chest shot is more difficult than aimed head shot?

That seems odd, since head is smaller target than chest.

So...

Chest/gut/head/limb +2
Hand/foot/joint/heart/throat/mouth/face +3
Eye/chest(if Target faces away) +4

Re: OoC Chat
Also guys, make sure to check your character sheet, probably the second page, for cool stuff you can do during combat.

There are also ways to use your Investigative Skills to give you some bonuses, but I wanted to run this combat a little simpler this first time. So we can talk about those later.

I added this to our Game Links page---it gives easy summaries for a lot of the cool combat options.

Here's the Called Shot card:

As you can see, it's not 1 to 1 like I thought. We'll use this going forward.

Oh, nice reference - thanks for sharing!

I managed to get a quick post in, and I do apologize about the quality but I didn't want to hold up the game any longer. After this weekend, I should again have some free time again and will no longer be mentally bogged down with having to memorize mathematical formulas!

Anyway, combat so far is pretty fast paced and seems to follow the rule of cool. I'm digging it!

Lee, I loved your post. If you have higher standards, we can all expect a top notch game!

Also, I definitely value keeping things moving. Thanks for helping with this! Don't feel like you HAVE TO do more than you did. Feel free to, but don't feel like you disappoint us by "only" posting what you did!

Let me know if you guys need explanations of anything.

We can move forward in any number of ways: meet with Brigidovich(?), Check out the laptop, search for another job. Just let me know what picques your interest.

Guys! I apologize! My RPOL Android notifier stopped sending me notifications. I didn't realize you had posted until I logged in just to review and prep.

I will try to post an update before midnight EST.

Ok. Let me take another crack at posting tonight.

Not an excuse, but some explanation: family visitors from New Orleans and wife and daughter with hand-foot-and-mouth disease (yuck).

Thinking maybe we can try out the chase rules, if we head that direction.

I know we're generally pretty lax about activity on the weekends, but I'm going to be completely unavailable until Sunday. Taking the Cubscouts out camping so I'm not expecting any kind of internet signal out there in naturey Earth wilderness place.

No worries! I've been way too lax on my posting.

Thanks for the heads up. Have an awesome time! I loved Scouts as a kid.

Just took my girls today out to watch the SpaceX rocket launch. My wife has never seen a launch either so we had great fun.

Hey, guys, sorry I went dark for a while. Origins was great, but by the time I got home I was sick. Ran a fever of about 102 for several days and recovered slowly. I'll get back up to speed with Quinn and get a new post up today.

Re: OoC Chat
I'm sorry. I keep turning to this game to post and I just can't get my thoughts in order. I think I'm not the right person for the modern thriller genre, especially since Quinn has become the default leader of the group. Maybe if there were more PCs and he could continue just being the old curmudgeonly driver it would be different.

I think -- and I hate it -- but I think I need to resign.

I'm sorry to hear it. Please don't write off NBA based just on this experience with it. Frankly, I'd be interested to hear about how it goes if you play again.

Let me know what factors under my control game or GM-wise contributed to your feeling/decision to quit.

I enjoyed chatting and playing  games with you. Also perhaps someday we'll cross paths in Orlando.

Lee, do you want to carry on?

I've always loved seeing rocket launches. Its something I haven't done since I was a kid and I would love to take the family to see one!

I would hate to call it quits, but I know running a game is a lot of work and with only a single player it might not be worth your time or effort. However, if you're content to keep going I will absolutely stick around for the ride.

Quinn, it has been a pleasure gaming with you. Hopefully we'll get the opportunity again sometime.

Re: OoC Chat
I promise you guys that it's not the company. I've enjoyed Lee and the GMing was fine. I just wish there was more of us, which the GM has no control over. This kind of team game really needs a team, I think.

6eck, I'd probably be up for another try some time. It's good to know Orlando's not totally devoid of RPG gamers.

Best wishes, guys. See you again, I hope.

I'm Gaffer BTW.

Re: OoC Chat
That's a good point, the game really does seem geared much more towards groups than solo play. But with the release of Cthulhu Confidential, I have to wonder if there will eventually be a re-tooled Night's Black Agents released for the Gumshoe One-to-One system.

Re: OoC Chat
Night's Black Agents (specifically this game) was my first experience with Gumshoe. So I can't make an honest comparison, but Cthulhu Confidential is a really simple game meant for one player and one GM, and I can only assume it is a very streamlined version of Trail of Cthulhu. I've been running it for my wife (who has only ever played one other RPG) and she has taken to it with no trouble at all.

A NBA iteration of the Gumshoe 1-to-1 System could really fill that "One man saw it coming, but no one believed him" trope.
