Pre-mission Briefing

It looked more like an oversized pressure cooker than a bomb. We were looking at a black-and-white photgraph of a MADM-  Medium Atomic Demolition Munition, 'Made in the U.S.A.', and the DIA briefer explained that it's on the loose somewhere in northern Poland. The kicker is that the DIA put it there themselves! Now they're worried that it's fallen into the wrong hands. They want us to find it and bring it back. "Here's a grainy photo and a Geiger counter. Good luck!" If we don't complete this mission, it's going to be damn near impossible for us- hell, for anyone here in Bremerhaven- to get back home. It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it; I guess that somebody's us…

In a nutshell, the DIA lost an MADM and intelligence reports indicate that it has fallen into the hands of Field Marshall Anton Chilikov, commander Soviet Baltic Front, headquartered in Marienburg castle in Malbork. The dozier on Chilikov suggests that he may not be entirely stable and at least one field agent report has indicated that he plans on using the weapon against the evacuation fleet at Bremerhaven. Apparently, he believes that it is actually an invasion fleet. In order to achieve the maximum damage to the American forces gathering in Bremerhaven, he will likely wait until the 12th, 13th, or 14th to launch his nuclear weapon.

DIA Direct Action Team Orion was to be met on the primary DZ, outside the abandoning farming village of Lubiszynek Pierwszy, by a DIA field agent codenamed Prelate, the source who confirmed Chilikov's suspected nuclear capability, and included his own opinion regarding the field marshal's intentions. The team's primary objective is to recover or destroy the MADM. Barring that outcome, Orion is to kill or capture Chilikov and eliminate all means of delivering the weapon.

Prelate is to wait on site for several consecutive nights. He will leave a message at a dead drop in the village if he is forced to leave early.

Images of Marienburg (Malbork Castle)

These are best images of Marienburg/Malbork Castle that the DIA could come up with before Orion was sent into the field. Other sources were lost, destroyed, or made inaccessible due to the war.

2nd Polish Free Legion

2nd Polish Free Legion
Commanding Officer: Major Wojciech Anders
Strength: Estimated 300 irregulars
Location: Unknown

A former Polish Air Force officer, early in the war, Wojciech Anders defected and joined a pro-NATO partisan unit operating in west central Poland, the 2nd Polish Free Legion, of which he quickly became second in command. About a year ago, under circumstances that remain unclear, Anders assumed command of the 2nd PFL. Contact with the 2nd PFL was lost during the PACT's summer counteroffensive and has not yet been reestablished. The 2nd PFL's last known area of operations was the forested area between Chojniece and Grudziadz.
