In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 1):

Well now that we're here, I guess I need to put together my character sheet for Baddywhick Bumperstash.  Yes, like Andrew I have a race I play a lot, gnomes.  You haven't really met Fribble yet, that will be another day, but Baddywhick is going to be your new favorite asshole.

He won't be alone! Xalwin, the stalwart apprentice to the Keeper of the Arcane Library at Blackstaff Academy, hails from a long line of Gnome Wizards and Clerics of Mystra. He more than compensates for what he lacks in charm and strength with his genius and focus. A veritable living library with a talent for clockwork to boot, Xalwin values knowledge and those who pursue it over superficial gains, though never one to turn up his long nose to his fair share of the treasure!

Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well!

Glad a few folks have joined the game and the discussion. Let's see how this plays out. I think it should be a fun thing to mess around with in between games for sure. Totally casual with a 72 hour timer. After 72 hours, if nothing has been done by a character I will NPC that character to move things forward.

As it is now, let's make things easy for everyone and say you've all seen each other around Waterdeep and have yet to even dare offering money to Durnan for a trip down the well. You've seen a few groups make drunken bets and take the trip down. You have yet to see anyone come back up.

Currently, a number of patrons sit at various tables around the tap room. One hooded figure just received a frothing mug of ale from Durnan and slid a few silvery coins across the bar, and a weathered warrior with bedraggled gray hair sits at the opposing side of the bar spooning chunks of stew into his mouth.

Is it possible to do some base RP in/around Waterdeep for XP before venturing down the well? Could do with a level or two...

You're welcome to do some RP in Waterdeep, but I'd like to start the adventure off at level 1.

Hmmm, trying to decide to recreate my character as a half-elf or keep the gnome.  He doesn't really do the tinkering thing that rock gnomes do, it just fits his backstory.  I will let you know, I haven't fully polished this concept yet.

Idea so far:  Rock Gnome tinker, apprenticed to his father, develops latent psionic powers (UA Mystic) at a young age and begins "reading" objects in his father's shop.  Winds up helping the Waterdeep City Watch solve a gruesome murder and is noticed by one of the Watch higher-ups.

After years of begging his father, he finally gets the nerve up to join the watch and get trained as a detective.  He is trained in the arts of combat and keeps his talents to himself (not letting on that he has Psionics as they are rare in the Realms).  On his final training mission he locates a strange artifact that pulls him towards finding more about it and freeing it from something evil that holds it's power.

Drawn by this power he cannot control an insatiable lust to find out more about this artifact and is drawn to the Yawning portal tavern to figure out more.

If I change it out, I would go half-elf and switch the backstory up a bit to remove the tinker element.

Loving the idea! Sounds good, Dan!

On another note, I'm going to devise a way to create threads that are for areas all around Waterdeep. This will allow for personal time and RP around the various locations around Waterdeep before and after an adventure.

Suggestion: Thinking in terms of compartmentalizing combat away from RP, what do you think about making individual threads for each fight and linking them in the main thread so it doesn't get bogged down with attacks and maneuvers? Figured it would make transcription and general scroll-thru that much easier.
