Alrighty, I received the last two sheets this morning so we're good to go. Would you all like me to unlock the first note so's you can read it?

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Something about the characters we have here... quite possibly just that "Quinn" isn't a common name except among rugged modern world adventurers so I'm linking "Henry Quinn" with "Quinn Sebastian"... but I have to ask.

Anybody else here follow Torg?

Goodness, GM.  It was barely 8:30 and you were already two sheets to the wind?

I've loved John Rhys-Davies work since I watched him play "Rodrigo-san!" in Shogun...he has never had a disappointing acting performance since. Damn shame his picture wasn't in the portfolio gallery - would have snapped it up without a second thought.

Well, that's not exactly true... This may not be what you're after, though.

Peter doesn't play chess, but he'd be perfectly happy playing whist if Artemis has the patience to explain the rules to him.

Fox wouldn't mind showing the game to you, but you need 4 players in order to play.  Well, it might help pass the time.

I don't have any Games or Hobby skills, which is a bit of an oversight.

I'm going to take Games (Rummy), I think.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Games is IQ/E, Gambling is IQ/A. I'd say that there's probably overlap, but Gambling covers more topics, and games doesn't cover betting or odds or whatever.

Yeah, Ilse and Peter could potentially get along famously. Or disastrously. Either way, it should be fun. :)

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Seems I have a skill at Gambling but forgot to write chess in...think I'll squeeze a point out of Sociology to give myself a point in the game.  Sort of why the Professor doesn't gamble - he's not terribly good at it.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Artemis P. Fox, Esq.:
Last time I 'followed' Torg, it was playing in a 1st Edition campaign in the late 80's. I've seen some of the new stuff for it, thanks to John Wick (of 7th Sea fame), but that's about it.

Well, it's not like there have been a lot of editions since then. grin  I'm excited about the new one on Kickstarter.  It sounds like they simplified a lot of those weird little sub-systems for every different reality (which, actually, makes me a little bit sad - Torg was my absolute favorite game ever to design spells in), and the people making it seem to like it for... the right reasons, I guess?  So I'm far more hopeful than afraid.

quote:
"Ah yes, the American pastime..."

That gave me a chuckle.

Soo... how soon do we get points?  If someone wanted to teach Patience a game or two, she'd be willing to play, but right now, I'm afraid you'll have to deal her out.

I never got to play a mage or magic user in Torg, wouldn't have minded trying out something like that, I have a 'thing' for playing images in a lot of fantasy and near-fantasy games. Hopefully, the system gets funded and all.

Think we might get a point or two after our 'aggressive negotiations' with the Pirates are concluded, those of us who survive, that is. "Death always before dishonour, my good woman ... but neither before tea."

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
I'd think that most people who play games don't have any CP invested into them. Games default to IQ-4, Gambling to IQ-5, and you'd only ever roll at "Skill +0" for "adventuring tasks."

A friendly game of Euchre or chess or whatever with no consequences or stakes might be rolled with a significant bonus; but really "Do I know this game" is probably covered by cultural familiarity (or a lack of it.)

So, while Peter knows how to play many games and even understands gambling, I'm not going to put any points into it. They're just social activities.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
That's a fair point - there's a big difference between playing a game and being skilled at it.  My record in Overwatch can attest to that. sigh

But if you're going to be the sort of person who stands around on a boat two thousand miles from home worried that no one else plays chess, it does seem likely you'd have a point or two in it.

It's been one of those runaway successes.  I mean, not the super crazy ones, but... they're at about $230,000 of their requested $8,000, and one week in.  So that's looking good.

I... could talk about playing a mage, but, um, it's sort of like asking to see pictures of my children.  So it's probably better I don't. grin

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
I'm inclined to agree - generally, most people who play games probably get their skill level from time played rather than actually increasing their skill with effort (the obvious exception being people who make money on games, of course).

I'll try to update later today. Gotta shower and print some stuff off for class first.
