Re: [OOC] Out of Character
You could probably just slip a point into it at some point... lots of people have an interest in some locale or thing.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Eventually, perhaps. Until then I think I'll just roll vs default every time I have the urge to spout off some random historical or cultural fact.

It's hard to get back into the mindset of a world without the internet.

Actually, I don't have history and I didn't think about current events as we would be moving around a lot.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Wait... are the Serbian Carpathians part of Yugoslavia in 1932? I can't remember. Geography between the wars trips me up a little.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
The Carpathian's are in then Yugoslavia and much of south-eastern Europe as well. Stretch from Czechoslovakia to Romania and Serbia to the Ukraine.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Yeah the Carpathians stretch quite far. The southern portion is sometimes called the Romanian Alps, even to this day there are around a hundred villages in northern Romanian among the Carpathians that operate using 12th century technology simply due to how nearly impossible it is to get cars and such there.

Sorry for the long ontological digression on the nature of magic. What was a throwaway comment has turned into a long discussion.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
PCs, or players?

I'll admit, this is a little over Patience's head -- she's still trying to figure out why, if you were trying to talk about movies, you brought up monsters and demons in the first place, and look where it got you?  Everyone's forgotten the cinema entirely now.

But OOC, I, too, am finding it a fun conversation, so don't worry about me!  Rolls aside, you *are* giving Peter's side very eloquently, and I'm really enjoying Ma and Ilse's half.

Maybe Patience and Gabby should grab a drink and just listen.

Ooh, we could make a drinking game out of it!

Think we could get Sir Preston to line up some shots?

Youse guys are so getting character points for this debacleate.

Also, I'm going to try to post tomorrow, but I have to admit RL has been dropping a tree's worth of lemons on me this week and it's not helping my creativity any. So if I don't post, assuming it isn't y'all's's fault, I apologize (in advance).

That's a pretty creative and amazing feat since there's nothing natural about lemons, they're a crossbreed of citron and sour oranges, the sour orange being a crossbreed of pomelo and mandarin..and even the most pure of mandarin have pomelo genes...

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Judging by the size of these lemons, I'm not convinced they're anything more than bowling balls someone painted yellow...

LOL.

As an example... I got offered a job today - the equivalent of 500usd a month to teach 34 hours a week in the poorest part of Mexico. That's about a quarter the pay you make in China for 2.5 times the work. And that was the good news this week. Obviously I turned it down, but ... yeesh.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
$500 a month?  Good Lord, that won't cover most people's monthly grocery bills, much less anything else.

Never mind in the poorest parts of anywhere, you've got a lot of trouble to deal with - and being a 'nordamericano' in their eyes would just complicate matters and make things worse ... if that's even possible.

Re: [OOC] Out of Character
Honestly, given the location and local economy it's not as bad as it seems (Chiapas is piss poor). The problem really comes in with the hours; standard teaching hours for ESL is about 20, 25 max, with about double in-class time spent out of class getting ready. So 34 hours in class means ... 70 out of class? No thanks. I'm not my mother.
