Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

Scene: Detainment Center, The Ziggarut

"Schroedinger's Penitentiary" - Doom Pool: 0
Past the administration and intake layer of the Ziggarut's surface are eight levels of progressively more dangerous inmates, laid out in grid patterns with occasional intersecting hallways. Each of the Zig’s cells has EXTRAORDINARY SECURITY FEATURES - they’re constructed from steel, lined with Impervium, and use two-way video screens instead of windows. POWER-NEUTRALIZING AGENTS are introduced in various ways to the inmates (drugs in food, suppressive energy fields, etc.), with varying effects.

Scene Distinctions: Extraordinary Security Features, Power-Neutralizing Agents, Automated Defenses, and Full Blown Riot!

As per requested, UV attends the armored convoy to Zigursky Penitentiary...the Freaks provide no resistance, but do make an aweful scene by way of lewd remarks and suggestions - a juvenile vulgar display. Even while disembarking, they make absurd requests like 'I wanna see my lawyer!", "Where's my phone call!", "I gotta go pee!". The idea that they're being booked into one of the most secure, and quite possibly the most dangerous, prison in all of North America doesn't seem to phase them. The Freak Shocker even has the gall to hollar at one of the guards, "Honey, I'm home!" Processing the Freaks takes time...a long time...

***

Underneath it all, an elusive creature continues to work it's way down through Zigursky's infrastructure...continuously guided by almost undiscernible messages and signals. At one particular junction amid the internal vents and maintenance crawl spaces, Husk halts and hisses venemously under his breath to no one particular, "Why are you helping?" Through ventilation, he can see a message scroll across a nearby video display.

**IN HELPING YOU, I HELP ME**
**I CAN GET YOU TO THE ONES YOU SEEK**
**BUT I NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE**
**TO BYPASS FAILSAFES BETWEEN STRUCTURAL LEVELS**
**THE RED WIRE TO THE LEFT**
**CONNECT IT TO THE MAINFRAME TO YOUR RIGHT**

Husk wasn't entirely certain he could trust this unknown benefactor, but what was certain is that there was no way he could have made it this far without detection...and since there was nothing stopping it from revealing his position and throwing this entire venture out the window, he saw no reason not to comply. Skillfully exiting the crawl space, Husk acquires the cord and plugs it into the mainframe...and for the first time since Zigursky Penitentiary was built...briefly, almost beyond human awareness...

...the power flickers.

***

Approximately two hours ago, buried beneath the foundation of Zigursky Penitentiary, a very unique 'cell' containing a very unique inhabitant...surrounded by a persistent, and rather potent, electromagnetic field - waited. It was used to waiting, it had kept track of it's detainment right down to the millisecond...Clockwork programming was like that. So when a power surge required Zigursky Penitentiary to resort to it's own independent power generators to maintain functionality...that fraction of a second where power levels were less than nominal, was all it took. It's first step - baffle security measures and protocols...when the power restored to full capacity, no alarm or warnings occured. It was free, but not entirely...the structure inhibited it's ability to broadcast, at least not without detection...and being discovered was how it ended up being detained in the first place.

Still, it could not allow such a place to exist...it would be counterintuitive to it's programming to allow it to remain. The Cerebreaum would not be able to fullfil it's duty to the Clockwork King of Epsilon Tau 27-2...if it's capture remained possible. With the security systems baffled, it scrolls through gigabytes of data regarding Zigursky Penitentiary, including staff and current occupants...and begins processing contegencies. A security alarm nearly trips as a vehicle enters into the Zig's medical bay...Cerebreaum terminates it, and observes a human-alien symbiote wheeling in a horribly mutilated body. "Interesting...," Cerebreaum notes with almost human-like curiousity regarding the symbiote the alarm was warning about, "...hands...I could use hands..."

***

"I have done what you asked, and by no means am I ungrateful...your intervention with their security means and measures has been essential, but for our bargain...I still have need to ask - those affiliated with The Fifth Column, where are they?" A nearby desktop copier begins printing documentation pertaining to current existing inmates fitting that description. As Husk turns to peruse the selection, an obviously synthesized voice warbles, "SOME OF THOSE SELECTED ARE CONSIDERED TO BE AN EXTREME THREAT TO ESTABLISHED SOCIETY." "What do you mean?" Husk replies suspiciously...a sense of urgency rising. "OH...NOTHING...I AM JUST FULFILLING MY END OF THE BARGAIN. I AM SETTING YOUR AFFILIATES FREE...AND SO ON...AND SO ON...AND SO ON..."

Emergency lighting flashes in the sudden darkness as every sirens begins blaring alarms. Every cell, every barrier, every security checkpoint and countermeasure...opens up, turns off and shuts down. "What have you done?!?" Husk snarls savagely. "WHY...TESTING A THEORY...LET US SEE IF THEY REALLY ARE A THREAT..." Husk was already on the move in vain to sever the connections he helped create...not to his surprise, all the security features he previously bypassed - reactivated.

OOC: UV and Aegis, when the power flickers...that gives a few of the seasoned veteran staff reason to pause. The Warden, being on the verge of issuing a general alert, thanks to the timely urgings of Aegis, breaks open and pulls the fire alarm...and nothing happens. "Your utility provider SUCKS!" jibes on of the Freaks followed by a round of raucous laughter from his mates...before the lights go out and the strobe lights begin, followed by the sound of automated weapons fire...

Since both Aegis and UV have enhanced senses and/or reflexes, you get to choose between the two of you who posts first, Aegis because he suddenly feels aware of impending danger, UV because you see the occurrence happening and act at the speed you're accustomed to: very rapidly. ^_^

Aegis let the others deal with the officers, the statements, all of it.  It didn't matter to him in the least.  His attention was fixed, staring off at something only he could see.  His brow was creased and a small half frown was present on his face.  He ignored the distractions, the mundane, focusing completely on what he could determine.

He stood there, still, until several minutes after the paddy wagon had left.  The frown shifting to a scowl, his focused returned to the mundane as he look around to see who was there.  "Time is short.  I don't know your individual focuses and skills but I believe we're about to have a imminent dimensional breach.  Normally, I find and seal them before they occur.  But this...there is interference everywhere.  Like static or interference.  I'm only getting scattered information.  But the brief glimpse of intelligence show quick burst of change.  A breach is building and soon; I can only localize it to somewhere near the center of the penitentiary.  Which is obviously ridiculously bad.  I have to go; stop it before whatever forces try to break through.  I will likely need help when whatever it is invades," he remarks dryly before he turns and starts walking quickly towards the Zig...

Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

While dubious at first, the Warden quickly moves to action when Aegis mentions an other-dimensional threat at the heart of Zigursky Penitentiary. Smashing a glass cover, he yanks a lever against the wall...with no results. "Damn!" exclaims the Warden under his breath. Turning to the staff on-hand he barks, "Secure these perps, then fallback to the armory! This is not a drill, move like you got a purpose!"

"What about the non-combatants, sir?" asks one of the guards.

As the lights go out and the warning alarms blare, the Warden replies harshly, "As of right now, everyone involved is a combatant. Get to the armory, that's our rally point, I'll meet you there...MOVE!" His last word more like an utterance for warning than an order to disembark as a barrage of weapons fire cuts him off abruptly, and almost in two. Drawing his sidearm from behind withering cover, he says to UV and Aegis, "I need to get to my office...now!"

**EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! LOCKDOWN IS IN EFFECT!**...blares an intercom in the darkness as automated turrets begin mowing down a series of targets...indiscriminately...inmates and guards alike alight in strobe!

Outside Zigursky Penitentiary, a general alarm blares as a shimmering field drops over the structure...

OOC: There...now the post makes a little more sense. UV gets an action before my next calamitous post. Aegis will be able to perform an action next. As far as the Warden is concerned, as an NPC character, he can't take any active rolls, so he'll simply be formulating a plan (creating an asset) to "Exit For The Warden's Office" starting at D8, he makes a break for it when it reaches D12+. The mob of inmates are on the verge of rioting against everybody and everything, and may cause some damage, but worst may very well occur from the networked defense systems of the Zig. Consequently, it would be possible to literally smash and destroy every possible defense mechanism in this sector (remove all Large Scale Threat affiliation die which would shut down the system, but only temporarily. It would be enough to keep the inmates safe). Also, it seems quite certain that the Warden will not survive trying to reach his office unless assistance is rendered. So...Warden, Inmates and Automated Defenses hell bent on clearing house. What do you do? ^_^

UV breathed deeply as she tried not to let the chaos unfurling around her to shake her up. Just a few years ago, this type of scenario would have been a boon to any plan she had been working. Now, as a hero, or at least the semblance on one, she couldn't fathom what to do. Then, as if a light had gone off, she looked at Aegis and the Warden. "I'm going to give the system a high priority threat. That should make it focus on me. I'm fast enough to give this thing a run for its money while you make a run for the armory. Give me some cover or help if you can, otherwise, don't slow down. Okay?"

And with that, she began to glow with her coronal aura. Soft light suddenly flared as she floated off the ground and darted out into the line of fire. Between her past incarceration, highly visible heat signature, and her aerobatics, the system would have no choice but to go after her.

Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Zigursky Penitentiary Detainment Sector, rolled 1,6,8,7,4,6 using 5d8,d10. Maintain targeting integrity.
Total: 15
Effect: D8
Opps: 1 (Wow, was wondering if I'd ever see an op rolled - UV gets first dibs.)

"Wait!" exclaims the Warden as UV illuminates the area brightly in the low-light hazard conditions, drawing the attention of quite a few automated sensors...oodles of automated sensors as a series of scans and drones sweep her general vicinity while she leads the automated security systems on a merry chase...then they stop tracking her. At first she thinks she may have succeeded in confounding the system, but the sound of a series of security doors slamming closed behind her fills the blanks quickly enough - while still in the Detainment Center, UV finds herself cut off from the Warden and Aegis!

OOC: Going to ramp up the excitement a little by spending a Doom Die in order to break up the group a little. Aegis and UV are now considered 'Solo' instead of 'Duo/Buddy'. Doom Pool is now 2D8. The system is trying to break the group apart so it can better understand how to eliminate it's targets...eep! Aegis, you get to act next. :D

"Typical," Aegis muttered in annoyance.  Dividing up the forces just when things are about to hit the fan.  And he's stuck with the warden who didn't listen.  Well, if the security systems are all activated, that'd at least keep the prisoners contained.  "You should probably hide," he said to the warden as an aside.  But Aegis put the man and his safety out of his mind almost immediately.  He had to get to the breach before it was too late; that's what mattered in the end.

Taking a deep breath, he centered himself and reached out.  Letting the magic swirl and expand outward.  Riding the aether, he let it seep into the system.  Bonding, merging and infecting it.  He gave himself unrestricted and authorized access and pulled himself back into his body.  He had to get cleared if he wanted to rush to the breach without getting slowed down.  And maybe even help keep the scumbags in their cells.

OOC:
So, here's the intent and how I think it will work.  Using magic mastery to control forces of creation (cosmic mastery) to infect the system to make me 'cleared/allowed to be there' and start hauling ass to the breach.  I am pretty skilled at covert actions as well.

OOC: Remember that when adding a total, use the two highest (or more, plot points withstanding). Aegis's total would be 17 with a D10 effect.

Zigursky Penitentiary: 3D8 (Zigursky is large with lots of sensors)
Cybernated Senses: D8 (Complexity of the sensors being influenced)
Power-Neutralizing Agents: D6 (Countermeasures utilized in order to maintain integrity, included by way of SFX - Network Synched)
Security Drones: 3D6 (defeating sensors includes all drones, included by way of SFX - Network Synched)

Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Zigursky Penitentiary Security System, rolled 3,2,1,8,1,5,5,3 using 4d8,4d6.  Prevent security systems from being intruded upon.

Total: 18 (Spending a Doom Die in order to add to total - 5+5+8)
Effect: D8
Opps: 2 (Opps for sale! :D )

As Aegis expands his awareness, permeating the aether, he attempts to warp the very fabric of the cosmos - striving to obscure himself from the maniacal system and it's probing sensors...

OOC: Spending the other Doom Die - Doom Pool: 0, in order to counterattack inflicting a D8 - Immobilized physical complication on Aegis.

Alas, the speed unto which the system responds in nothing short of remarkable as a series of security drones orbit around his person, discharging cables that wind about his body and limbs. Aegis finds himself unable to complete his incantation, or any incantation for that matter, as he falls to the ground - a modern-day mummy wrapped in wires!

OOC: Aegis, your Limitation is now active (Conditional) and you gain a Plot Point. :D Okay, give me a moment...going to drum up a post regarding how the system and inmates act.

ACK! Accidentally deleted the previous post! Okay, going to try and reproduce it...good thing the dice roller saves rolls.

As the inmates bear witness to the dangers afoot, they do what any group of desperate inmates would do - they riot, turning Zigursky Penitentiary into a literal free-for-all as the entire scene erupts into outright anarchy!

OOC: The mob creates a scene, increasing the doom pool by a D8 which I'll go ahead and convert into a scene distinction - Full Scale Riot!...which will be utilized in order to try and help the inmates breakout.

The Warden blasts one of the drones nearest Aegis, preventing it from securing the mage entirely. Hastily approaching, he goes to work on the cables while saying, "Don't move, son...these things're designed to constrict, you move - they tighten, and if you don't mind me sayin'...you don't look like you can take a whole lot of squeezin'".

OOC: The Warden was going to create an asset for himself to help him get to his office...but as problems arise, his old-fashioned sensibilities takeover as he strives to save the heroes. Aegis, for a Plot Point, you can have the Immobilized physical complication removed without having to roll to do so.

"I didn't just make parole to get shot in the back!" shouts one inmate before bursting into flames. Pulling off the melting remains of a inhibitor collar, he grins saying, "Now we're cooking..." before getting blasted in the face by a series of drones deploying fire suppressants...he collapses under a voluminous cloud of suffocating agents.

OOC: The Zig takes pot shots at...well, everybody. A mob die of inmates gets dropped, dozens fall...powered and nonpowered alike. Inmate...and hero...UV, you are assailed!

Zigursky Penitentiary (Large Scale Threat): 3D8
Cybernated Senses: D8
Automated Defenses: D6 (added by way of Network Synched)
Security Drones: 3D6 (added by way of Network Synched)

Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Zigursky Penientiary, rolled 3,6,6,1,4,6,3,6 using 4d8, 4d6.  The Zig attacks! Pew! Pew! Pew!
Total: 12
Effect: D8 Physical Stress (UV)
Opps: 1

OOC:...and guard.

"Almost got it..." reports the Warden before letting out a cry of anguish and falls over, back smoldering.

OOC: The Zig doles out D8 Physical Stress to the Warden. As he is a minor character, he can take the stress...but not much more. Initially thought it would take him out entirely, but D10 is necessary...so he's wounded, seriously wounded.

Doom Pool: D10, D8

Elsewhere deep within Zigursky Penitentiary...,

Quite literally one of Zigursky Penitentiary's best inmates, Theresa May followed a tight schedule...dutifully, one might say, making it difficult to believe that this mild, unassuming former museum curator assistant could do anything more than provide tours. Alas, in her cell, her 'complication'...was evident. Paper clip chains festoned the ceiling, sheets tied in knots, chains drawn on the walls. The psychologists called it 'therapeutic', these liberties helped ease her stress...

When her cell door opened and the alarms began sounding, the compulsion grew stronger than she had ever experienced before...before she she was brought...here. Compelled to leave the security of her cell, inmate Theresa walked towards the Armory through the riot following the sound no other seemed to hear - the rattling of chains and the clanking of manacles...chains designed to bind...

By the time she arrived the Armory was already open and under assault, a variety of bodies littered the hallways - robotic, inmate and guard. She takes just enough the time to alter her appearance, tearing her uniform and adorning her visage with the blood of others, before dashing forward into the line of fire of a series of guards still holding the Armory secure.

"Get On The Ground!" shouts one of the guards, but she does not relent...rushing forward screaming hysterically, "There's a riot going on! I was attacked! Help!!!" "No inhibitor collar, sir...she's not meta." "My ex's lawyer wasn't meta..." "Take her to the back, Smitty...you've got inmate detail." As she is grabbed by the shoulder and lead into the Armory, she suppresses a smile as she follows the sound of rattling chains growing louder - chains designed to control.

"Sir, we got more incoming!" "It's the goddamn drones again!" "Smitty, get up here!" "You're safe now - don't move." orders the guard with a sense of genuine sincerity. "How sweet", she thinks while the sound of conflict erupts from the entryway as she begins to wander deeper into the Armory to the sound of phantom chains, "He's trying to protect me..."

She thinks to herself as her fingers caress a secure lockbox, the sound of chains clinking rigorously, "...he'll make a good slave." As if on cue, the container busts open - enveloping Theresa in a shroud of barbed chains and twisted metal!

Unlike in 'The Underground', the amount of emotional energy Crimson Fury has available on hand is nothing short of astounding. Rage and fear so palpable...he finds little difficulty in shaping. Stepping before the injured, he manifests a seething crimson orb pulsing with phenomenal power capable of withstanding incredible force, providing others near him with the means of avoiding the horrendous fate that has befallen so many...

OOC: With the Doom Pool being '0', there's not much that can prevent CF from creating the asset...and since he's not directly attacking anyone, there's nothing to resist (again, except for the Doom Pool, which is empty). So CF now has an Asset - Crimson Orb D12, which can be used for one reaction (for defense) or action (if used in an attack). With a Plot Point, CF can make it persistent for the scene (or until narratively unfeasible).

While certainly the Zig had seen it's fair share of heat and flame related inmates...unto which UV, formerly knonwn as Corona, was no exception - her time spent on the inside wasn't entirely wasted. Flaring with such intensity and speed, the networked targetting array should fry...or at the very least, be experiencing the worst case of sun-spotted vision that could be technically afflicted.

OOC: Not a whole lot I can pull from. I'll go ahead and buy those two opps, UV gains two PP's. Doom Pool steps up from 2D6 to 2D8. Don't think the Zig's going to beat UV's total so I'm going to try for a high effect die in order to step down the initial complication representing the system being effected...but already working to overcome the complication afflicted.

Zigursky Penitentiary: 3D8 (while still only afflicting a complication, the amount she has to affect is quite large)
Cybernated Senses: D8 (if flare compensation fails, will echolocation and barometric sensors suffice?)
SFX) Multivector Approach: 2D8 convert to 1D10
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC Zigursky Penitentiary, rolled 3,2,9 using d8,d8,d10.  Shielded sensors and backup arrays.
Total: 12
Effect: D8
Opps: 0

OOC: Oops...okay, that backfired. Not only did the Zig fail, it failed phenomenally - not only was UV successful, her effect die steps up to D10 which effectively complicates out of scene one of the Zig's affiliation die. Zigursky Penitentiary is now a 2D8 Large Scale threat. UV, if you wish, you can spend a PP to rejoin the others.

All over the Detainment Center, circuits fry and resistors blow as UV radiates a profound blast of infrared light...with optics seered, UV has a moment's respite.

OOC: Aegis, Zig and Da Mob are next. Unless UV wants the Zig and/or Mob to go? ^_^

Too intent on his attempt, he didn't notice at first as the systems began to encircle him.  Couldn't really have that.  With a whispered word, he let the darkness of the flickering light grow and envelop him.  Stepping out of the shadows several feet away, he turned away from the cables trying to wrap around the illusion of him.

He had to get to the center, find and stop the dimensional disturbance.  Everything else was just an obstacle in the way; obstacles he needed to overcome and quickly.  Preferably without being attacked, hindered or restrained on the way.  That'd be nice.

He paused, concentrating and summoning some defenses for himself.  He figured it was a reasonable precaution.  He didn't bother looking for weapons or armor.  He could simply make what he needed.

Preventative measure in place, he needed to get a move on.  Unfortunately, he couldn't just go directly there.  He needed a a way past the majority of the obstacles; a way to bypass as many as possible.  A little mystic divination, looking for ways to do short teleportation gateways...  But he needed to hurry the hell up one way or another.

Nice way to explain how he got out of the cables, creative and still didn't ruin the narrative. Nice work! :) Consequently, go ahead and gain a Plot Point for the '1' you rolled. The Doom Pool steps up and is now D10 and D8.

While stepping out of the shadows, never once actually being threatened by the murderous cables seemingly determined to strangle the life out of...the air they currently coil fiercely around, Aegis musters arcane energies to imbue himself with a degree of mystical protection from the nonsensical free-for-all happening all around the Detainment Center...he certainly didn't have time for this, and if he didn't hurry - neither would anyone else.

OOC: The calamitous environment makes for poor concentration and gesticulation, the full blown riot threatens to intervene with Aegis' efforts even if not attacked directly.

Doom Pool: D10, D8
Full Blown Riot!: D8
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC the calamitous scene, rolled 10,4,5 using d10,d8,d8.  the full blown riot may intervene with spellcasting.
Total: 15
Effect: D8
Opps: 0

OOC: Just as a head's up, only one action is allowed per player during their turn (unless you're rolling for a reaction and an action) so we'll go ahead and use this result against Aegis attempt to conjure some sort of mystical protection. In order to perform more than one action (or get more than one result), a Plot Point must be spent in order to acquire another effect die. In this particular instance - you could spend a Plot Point and use another die from your Dice Pool as a means to armor up and teleport out...but you also only had four dice in your Dice Pool, one of which was an Opportunity and can't be used in either Total or Effect. That only left you with three die...and if you used your two highest (9+7=16), you only have a D8 left for effect (which you succeed, by the way)...just no dice left over for a secondary effect.

The air crackles and shimmers around Aegis as his weaves a pattern conjuring a translucent barrier between himself and would-be assailants, various bits of debris are deflected without giving them a second thought. Secure in the knowing he has some means of protection, Aegis proceeds to attempt to establish a means to pass through the madness but finds himself tapped at the current time and moment...unable to muster the mystical forces to his beck and call. If he wanted to do more...he was going to have to tap more. Risky, certainly, but no more or less risky than where he was at right now.

OOC: Aegis now has an Asset "Mage Armor D8" and like Crimson Fury, you can spend a Plot Point to make it persistent throughout this scene - otherwise, it's a one shot asset...and now, it's time for the Zig and the Mob to go. :D

Amid the turmoil, one of the inmates has the wherewithal to look up and shout, "Corona! Alright! Light it up and let's blow this joint!" "She's a SNITCH!" "Zig don't think so...c'mon, Corona, lend a hand!" As much as UV would care to admit, she sees some familiar faces...many of which shouldn't see the light of day, but...this isn't incarceration, it's execution.

OOC: The desperate inmates try to convince UV to help them escape, playing on her criminal background. While certainly everyone in the Zig is there for a reason...these inmates are getting murdered. Does she take their advice and try to help them break free? How far could any of them really get?

Mob of Inmates: 2D6
Desperate: D8
Mender Phantasm, for the NPC mob of inmates, rolled 4,3,3 using d6,d6,d8.  inflict emotional complication - devil's advocate.
Total: 7
Effect: D8
Opps: 0

OOC: Essentially, this complication will only come into play if UV attempts to do anything against the inmates. If she's effected, this complication will intervene with attempts to subdue the riot. If it builds beyond D12+, she may very well decide to help the inmates escape! :O

"I...thought I told ya...*cough*...ta git ta th' Armory!" winces the Warden through clenched teeth as Windwalker arrives in the attempt to render aid. He digs into his vest with trembling hand and pulls out a card and says, "Yer…*cough*...gonna need this...hero." He presses the card into Tensing's hand before his eyes roll up and goes limp...

OOC: The Warden provides Tensing with a one-shot D8 Asset - Warden's Security Card before succumbing to 'Old Wounds'. The Warden loses consciousness...and is now at D6 Physical Trauma. A D6 is added to the Doom Pool, it is now D10, D8 & D6.

The Zig pauses for a moment to assess the situation, seeing it's potential diminished somewhat...it resorts to initializing backups and restores formerly disabled systems. All about the Detainment Center, the sound of grinding and scraping metal can be heard as various newer implements are brought to bear...along one particular monitor, a message flashes...

**BACKUPS INITIALIZED...RESTORE PROTOCOLS INITIATED**

The Zig recovers it's lost affiliation die by spending a Doom Die. The Zig was designed to contain...which includes means to recover from possible breakout attempts, this one notwithstanding. The Zig is now back up to 3D8. I would be a prat, since it's the end of the turn, to have the Zig and Mob act first next turn...but I'm not feeling very pratty. Okay, need a reaction roll from UV...and it's action time for the heroes again. :D

UV looked at the inmates and thought about what she might do if she had been behind the bars when the riot had started. But she wasn't. She was supposed to be responsible now and keep the inmates behind bars. What were you supposed to do when the bars started attacking those they were meant to protect and keep safe, at least from themselves and society? She decided that wholesale slaughter was not the order of the day. Turning to those that look like the leaders of the group, she turned on her best supervillain tone. "Alright, if you want to live, stay behind me. I'm going to try and keep you alive. You try to escape under my protection, I'll fry you myself. Understood?"

After dealing with the inmates, UV reviewed the situation. The facility was designed to hamper or outright deny abilities and recover from them. She needed to get back with the others. She would have the best chance of success with them. Looking to the inmates, she started barking orders. "The Zig will focus on me, so use the distraction to help get me to the armory. We can shut this hellhole down from there. If you want to go on your own, good luck with that, but sticking with me is the best option you have right now," she said as she flared her aura once again and provided a superhuman shield for the other inmates.

Crimson beams streak across the scene, striking prevalent adversaries left and right...oft at near indescribable angles as the radiant beams unerringly blast their respective targets. While still not a sufficient enough number to quell the riot, there certainly seem to be a significant fewer inmates willing to organize and orchestrate activities. Without direction, the riot will most assuredly play out...but the riot wasn't the only problem.

Crimson, you get a plot point for the opportunity you rolled - the Doom Pool steps up to D12 and D8. You exceeded their defense roll by 5 so you could step up either one of your effect die, but D10's are all that's needed...so the instigators of the mob are out. This does mean that while there is still a riot going on, it's not going to build anymore.

As various defenses fire off from around him and the riot degrades into an all out free-for-all...Tensing manages, almost beyond comprehension, to steal away the Warden to momentary safety and render aid to his injuries before his condition declined any worse than he was. Under more appropriate settings, his injuries would've been relatively easy to deal with...alas, this was all but the most ideal setting. Still, despite the noise and ever looming possibility of severe injury...using ancient techniques and nerve suppression, Tensing actually manages to get the Warden stable, but only just.

Well, you did succeed and even though my effect die was higher...D6 is still enough to stabilize him. The Warden should be able to make a full recovery if he can attain a full Transition Scene without incident...and now it's the opposition's go, I'm blowing 2D12 to end the scene. I know, I'm heartless...

At the start, spending 2D12 to end the scene - UV, CF and WW, all three of you gain 2 XP for my D12 expenditure.

A subtle hiss, just beyond normal hearing range suddenly ramps up to a muffled roar as gas pours in through almost every conceivable vent like a malfunctioning vacuum cleaner. UV and Crimson Fury notice it first...and it's clear by the reactions of the inmates that it's been pumping in gradually for sometime. The yellowish haze begins to obscure practically everyone and everything...Aegis being one them as he disappears under the wave of noxious fog. Nerve gas, perhaps...non-lethal in moderate doses - this, however, was not a moderate dose.

Remaining doesn't seem like a viable option...the Warden, for starters, would not survive. UV notes that this isn't 'the worst' thing that could possibly happen...the system, and whoever's enabling it, have access to means and measures that could nullify almost any existing power...so the fact that it hasn't happened to UV, CF and Tensing yet only means one thing: they're being studied to find out their breaking point.

Crimson Fury seems to be the only one no worse for wear in the fetid fog, but while the vapor holds no immediate threat to him...he steadily loses sight of the others as everything slowly fades from view...

Okie-dokie, feel free to post conclusions as far as your character's involvement in this particular section of 'The Zig' and get ready for a scene change. A few questions need answered such as...since almost everyone was operating solo (except for Tensing), how do you manage to stay together and get out? As explained in the book regarding closing a scene with 2D12, and not that I'm playing favorites, but it didn't seem like the heroes were 'winning'. Certainly, the main instigators of the riot were brought down...but there was a still a full blown riot going on. UV did cause the system some damage, but it recovered via backups. The Warden was stabilized, but it appears that Aegis was lost. In a situation such as this, is generally encouraged to have the players input how they feel they managed to escape the situation...and what it cost them. Dun-dun-dun! :D

Fury's aura had handled space before. He had flown up out of the atmosphere and to the bottom of the ocean once, and he had been fine both times. The energy aura his anger created protected from more than just physical force. It sustained him beyond any physical need...he literally fed on anger.

Despite that, he knew many of his allies could not do the same. As a result he created an energy corridor to keep out most of the gas-or as much of it that he could. Then the others could travel the tunnel and move to the outside like an airlock on a sub. He would remain floating over the structure and keep and eye out for possible assaults on his energy construct.

OOC: Crimson Fury can create constructs with his Anger Projection...it would be a standard asset creation roll including a D6 and stepping up the effect die because Crimson Fury's good at doing things like that. Since the scene is essentially closed, any effort can be consider successful by default along as it's within your character's scope and capacity.(Doom Pool: D6)

As the vapors roll in, the marginally conscious Warden has the will to mutter, "Being shot in the back ain't good enough, eh?..." before breaking off into a rather harsh and rasping cough. With Tensing's assistance, he manages to his feet and is not long joined with Crimson Fury as he creates crimson corridor that keeps those inside safe and the fumes at bay. Timely assistance, but getting to the Armory wasn't happening anytime soon as Tensing begins to feel the initial effects of toxic fog.

How she got turned around, she wasn't sure but UV was certain she had lost track of Tensing, CF, Aegis, the Warden...even the riot spiraling out of control beneath her as the noxious fumes came crashing in. She had to get out of here, she could burn so fierce as to make herself bulletproof...but she still needed to breath. Frantically she flew about, striving to recollect her former path. Certainly, she was supposed to head to the Armory...but right now she'd just settle for a breath of fresh air!

Unperturbed by the gas expulsion, Sister Moon picks up a gasmask in stride as she penetrates deeper past the exterior of The Zig into the Detainment Center. She's late to the party, the breakout attempt seems to have been quashed...albeit, in ways that only Iah would seem to relish. Moreover, the automated defense systems still seem active but all she finds are the silent lain - inmate and guard alike. Something was wrong, but her musing are perturbed by narrowly avoiding collision with UV who seems to be suffering from the vile vapors.

OOC: Okay, so it appears that Windwalker and Crimson Fury are together with the Warden in tow. The closest place that might be considered 'refuge' would be his Office ("Gotta first aid kit in my desk"). Alternatively, you could head to the Infirmary...though further in distance. The Warden just insists that WW and CF leave him and head straight to the rally point - the Armory, "Can't let the Armory be taken, some of these perps would have a field day if they got their toys back in their mitts". He claims he can make it his Office on his own...it's doubtful.

Iah can only express disappointment at the ones who avoided judgement by Sister Moon's hands, but continues goading onward...until she nearly collides with UV - a 'reformed' villain, and Iah doesn't believe in reformation...only judgement. Still, though no saint...UV was far from deserving judgement for the calamity caused this day. Hero Corps apparently decided to vouch for UV's services regarding this...time will tell the wisdom of such action. For now, UV appears to becoming mildly afflicted by the gas while Iah continues to goad Sister Moon into delving deeper.

So, I'm thinking of two Transition Scenes...WW & CF in the Warden's Office and UV & SM heading deeper? The Infirmary is along the route to the Armory and a quick pit stop wouldn't hurt (if anything, so UV can acquire some remedy to overcome the effects of the gas). Still, I'm open to suggestions as to where the characters head from here...plus, it's a nice moment's respite so characters can compare notes as to what's going on.

Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

OOC: Just add d6 to doom pool in order to let me make the energy tunnel.

"We head for the infirmary first. We have no idea what that gas does, or what the long term effects are. My energy tunnel can limit the exposure, but both of you have already had it introduced to your systems." Fury states, gesturing to the Warden and WindWalker. "Its on the way to the armory, which we have to hold no matter what." He looks out to the rest of the prison, but is more focused on the various emotions of rage, terror, and despair that flows from the people still trapped within.

Once Sister Moon located UV, she announced, "I am here to help you." Her voice was slightly muffled by the gas mask.  "Come, let's get you one of these," and she tapped the gas mask to indicate what she was talking about.

OOC: I'm unclear, other than getting UV a mask, what our aim is here.

Scene: Detainment Center, Zigursky Penitentiary

OOC: Good question, for the most part it's presumed that a breakout scenario was occurring. UV, CF, WW and Aegis were all on scene when the alarms went off after delivering a mob of Freaks who were in the middle of one of their 'parties' causing significant damage that caused the blackout in the Abyss Towers district. However, it's fairly certain by the amount of damage and needless body count that the automated defenses are not performing in accordance to their specifications. UV could fill Sister Moon in with those details, along with informing Sister Moon of the 'rally position' as the Warden had mentioned - the Armory, but as to why the Zig's defenses are going homicidal or who's behind it still remains relatively unclear.

Crimson Fury has no problem accomplishing the things he desires, so progress to the Infirmary is where CF, Tensing and the Warden will start next. Sister Moon and UV find themselves taking a more indirect route in order to escape the Detainment Center in route to the Armory. Two scenes are being prepped for posting soon! :D
