Scene: The Core, Zigursky Penitentiary

As Tenzing slowly strides about, trying to discern what it is he's facing, he has a distinct feeling like he's walking through a poisoned garden...lustrous in appearance, but rotten to the core. Not a single device or piece of machinery that exists within the area has gone untouched by some foreign agency...making it difficult to determine where to start. Moreover, how immune would the techno-monk be if decided to interface with the localized area...

...or was Tenzing already infected?

He remembers a time when he walked through a normally unventured stretch of forest. His Master reproached him from trying to pick some berries. When he inquired his Master simply stated, "Look to the trees, look to the bushes - no bird or beast stirs. This land is cursed, poisoned, no living thing dwells...save for these plants. Think past ambition, hunger, remain observant..."

A lot of time and effort has been put into what you doing.
A clear structure and plan has been put into place.
A lot energy for purpose.  What is the purpose of all this.
It would be useful to know.
Was this what Zig was build for in first place.

He asks the creature in-charge.

As he walking around a second kitten appear next to the first.
However this second kitten is black.
It looks like it been thrown into a bath with an electric heater at same time.

The two cats face each other.  As he talking Tanzing get a peace of chalk and draw for line on flour in grid.  They are then overlaid with computer lines.
Now you two have play nice.  You can only place peace if know your going to win.
Such a cute kitten.  He tells the new kitten.

OOC: Creating asset.

Using +1 PP to use both Techno chip and fill up memory.

Tenzing create a second kitten to play with first.  They playing game Tic Tac To.
Each kitten has full access to all spare memory in his chip.
Each must play to win but cannot place a X or 0 down unless they knows they can win.
The only thing stop this is if Tenzing shuts down the chip.
The only other use the chip is allowed is use normal allotted power to his reflexes and strength.
If the chip can gain power and processing memory from any other power it force that source to help it with it this program.  Only Tenzing know the rules of the program.

Access memory using impossible puzzle game.

Results: 12  Effect: d10 Opp:1
Spending a PP to make two kitten playing game last the scene.
Or loss Cute kitten dices as because part of this program?

Note:-  Tenzing basically make a power hungry, processing hungry vires out of his remaining memory of his own chip so if anybody tries to hack it they end up running this program.

Oofdah...I just couldn't get my mind around that one. Okay, how about this - just like Crimson Fury creating an Asset without there actually being something preventing him from doing so, Windwalker can create an Asset by simply paying a plot point and using whatever trait he intends on making the Asset with as the value of the Asset. Since it's tech related, he could use his Tech Specialty in order to create the Asset: Interface Buffer - D8.

UV:
UV turned to the Warden. "What is going on? Who is that?"

"That...THING...is a sentient computer virus from another freakin' dimension. It invaded Portal Corps infrastructure and attempted to hijack it's systems in order to takeover their portal tech so it could open a permanent gate between here...and where that thing came from..." replies the Warden, "...and it looks like it's trying to do the same thing again, using this penitentiary's power core as a power supply."

UV grinned as she spoke, "So, it's not friendly. Good. Good," she said as she cracked her knuckles and began to pace forward, looking at the machinery around her. She started talking, monologuing even. She couldn't help it. UV had known that villains tended to do it, but she had never quite shaken the habit. She had always wondered where it had come from during her tenure as a criminal.

She pointed a finger at the Cerebreaum. "Hey, freak show, welcome to the party. Now, I've got to say, you've done a fine job of wrecking the place, but that ends now. You're not going to hurt anyone else, and you are certainly not going to hurt us. In fact, I think that I am going to remind you that you've been bounced from this dimension before. Consider me the one asking nicely, because he," she said and threw a thumb towards Crimson Fury, "...certainly won't."

She looked at both Tenzing and CF, giving each a nod to let them know she was ready.

Well, trauma normally doesn't get resolved during action scenes...but since no one's engaged in any action directly against one another, sure...the D4 Emotional Trauma can be dropped. Clearly this bizarre foreign invader is a lot more problematic than Morose. The Cerebreaum likewise doesn't seem to be taking any direct action towards the players, instead seemingly far more concerned with it's own aims and ambitions (hence, the Doom Pool increase). Since Tenzing & CF created assets and UV rid herself of the last remnants of emotional trauma...in order to get the action scene started, I'll go ahead and spend that Doom Die in order to create a Timer D6 (yay, timers!). Now it's most definitely an action scene...CF, Tenzing, UV...who would like to go first?

The little droid pauses momentarily, casting it's eyes between both UV and Crimson Fury before it returns back to it's typing with subtle wave of it's free hand saying, "...this is not the droid you are looking for." as a portal ring is erected behind it...apparently unpowered, but seemingly potentially functional.

Fury growled, and headed over to the portal. It needed a power source, and they needed a way to get a computer virus out of this dimension. "See what you can do to get rid of our...pest. We may have a door to do just that." He said to WindWalker. He looked over at UV, gesturing to her to keep the bot and its puppetmaster talking.

Then he flies over to the portal and touches where its power feed should be located. Even if Cerebreaum has cut off power to the device, he may be able to provide the power the gizmo needed. Then they could have a way to get rid of this thing once WW traps it virtually.

Sensing Windwalker's emotions for tools he might require, Mark tries to craft said tools for the technology expert's work out of sculpted plasma. However, his anger is getting in the way...

While it seems that the Cerebreaum is perpetually occupied with it's own aims and measures, CF finds quite suddenly that attempting to engage in interaction with any kind or type of machinery within the area is literally interacting with the Cerebreaum itself. It scrutinizes Crimson Fury's action with phenomenal processing speed, and it seems the entire location reacts in response. The area he was working with specifically suddenly depowers and shuts down.

The little droid merely intones, "No, that will not do...step away from the device, qualified personnel only."

The Warden turns to UV and says, "You gotta burn it outta the system, fry it like a bug...then contain it into some kinda electromagnetic bottle. It doesn't react all that well to strong currents...and that power core it's nothing but one ginormous quantum fission generator. Reckon you or Big Red over there can contain it? Someone'll have to once that core gets cranked...it'll blow every single machine in this room just like an EMP. This fecking virus is only as dangerous as long as it has machines to control...without that, it's just a speck of self-sustaining biolectric code."

The Warden takes advantage of opportunity rolled by the Cerebreaum to create a resource Power Core Controls - D8. You can pay 1 PP to include it in a dice pool in order to shutdown The Cerebreaum's Artificial Extensions power set (if the action is successful), and because it would be narratively feasible, it would also change the Horde of Machines scenic distinction into Horde of Nonfunctional Junk. Tenzing could even get 2 Plot Points if he says his techno chips shutdown in the process. :D That also cost a Doom Die to create so things got a little less 'doomy'...Doom Pool now stands at a D8.

UV, Windwalker, The Cerebreaum and the Timer have all yet to act.

Tenzing follows the Warden's advice and quickly approaches the Power Core's Controls, cranking the dials to their fullest extent. The power core emits a excrutiating high-pitched whine as it powers up pending critical failure and soon to unleash a staggeringly potent and disruptive EMP!

...the little droid in front of the power core continues to tap away at the notepad, seemingly oblvious to it's impending doom.

I'll spend the D8 from the Doom Pool to remove the Portal Core scenic distinction. The Timer die is likewise removed due to narrative cohesion. Timer die required Portal Core as a functioning trait in order to operate. Also, due to narrative reasons, the Horde of Machines Scene distinction is now Horde of Useless Junk I'll go ahead and add a D6 to the Doom Pool, Doom Pool is now 1D6, and shutdown the Cerebreaum's Artificial Extensions power set.

The room flashes...followed immediately the sound of fried electronics and failing features. Drones patter briefly like a drizzle of metallic raindrops, Zigursky heavies stop in midstride, the horde of machines is now nothing more than a horde of useless junk...just like the power core as it undergoes safety shutdown procedures. No further effort progresses the construction of the Portal as it sparks sporadically...

...as the little droid falls over.

UV nodded at the exhausted monk. "No problem," she said as she rocketed towards the little machine. With its power removed, she felt much more at ease about the whole situation. Grabbing hold of the near lifeless machine, UV picked it up and began to glow with solar energy. She kept her levels down, so as not to irradiate the room, but it was enough to begin causing feedback in machines near her. Her voice was low and held the same menace as when she was considered a terrorist. "You're smart. You figure out if you need to leave or risk staying here."

As sparks and jolts fly from literally every device in the area, UV is uncertain if her words had any significant impact...or were even heard at all as none of the machines within, including the small little droid, provide a coherent response.

Which isn't too far from the truth, I'll go ahead and buy that PP UV rolled - she gains a PP, the Cerebreaum recovers it's Artificial Extensions power set. Alas, there's nothing within the scene that it can affect since everything got fried into useless junk along with the power core which went into complete and utter shutdown. It doesn't try to resist UV's intimidation attempt so it takes D6 Intimidation...which it promptly ignores, due to the "Technically Nonhuman" SFX (Doom Pool loses a D6, UV's Intimidation attempt has no effect, Doom Pool is now empty...again).

The Warden still peers about the room in earnest, "It's still here...keep sharp - as soon as realizes there's nothing here it can use..."

As if on cue, an amazingly minute spark zips about the room at superhuman speed!

"There it goes! Don't let it escape!" yells the Warden.

The Cerebreaum does the only thing left it can do - it tries to flee the scene! Giving itself an Asset - Escape From The Core at a D10. Since it was last to act this turn, it nominates itself to go first, stepping up the Asset to D12. Everyone's got about one action before it finds a way out of the Power Core...if it does that, it'll find it's way into another part of the Zig via electrical wiring and systems that wasn't effected by the overloaded power core. Who would like to go after the Cerebreaum?

There was no way it was going to beat that roll, even if I spent both Doom Die, CF would still have an exceptional success - increasing his effect die to D12+. The Cerebreaum's Asset - Escape The Core at D12 is effectively eliminated as CF literally cuts it off. Since CF scored four increments of sucess, he can step up his effect die to D12+ for two steps and include another effect at D8 due to the exceptional success of his action. Since CF narratively described trying to spear the Cerebreaum with his energy blade - I'm going to go ahead and say the Cerebreaum is now afflicted with a D8 Immobilized Physical Complication.

As the Cerebreaum rockets around the scene, desperately trying to find a means to escape the power core like some miniature wild weasel firework...CF drills his energy blade through it, containing it within writhing crimson energy! He can feel the bioelectric entity pulse and surge within...even in it's greatly reduced state, it's amazingly potent.

The Warden breaths an emphatic sigh of relief, perhaps for the very first time since this all started, and says to Crimson Fury, "Thank GOD! Keep it contained, do whatever you can to reinforce your field...don't let it out!"

Transition Scene - Power Cored

As the intrepid trio make their way out of the bowels of the Zig, it's like reading Dante's Inferno in reverse. They are met with halfway with Parameter Guard and Longbow Personnel who, while performing their duties with precision and professionalism, can't seem to hide their shock at the level of destruction and mayhem caused within.

"It was a freaking warzone in here..." murmurs one of the Parameter Guards as they secure the Armory, "What...the fuck happened?"

"What's the count?" inquires a particularly grizzled Longbow veteran they pass on their way upwards.

"I...I can't tell." replies a fresh Longbow recruit as he covers his mouth while exiting the remains of the Infirmary.

A force field containment unit is offered to alleviate Crimson Fury of the burden to keep the Cerebreaum contained.

The Warden pokes the one offering the containment field and roars, "You get that thing to Portal Corps! You do not pass 'Go'! You don't collect $200 dollars! Don't even DARE take your sweet ass time visiting jail or enjoy free parking! Get that fucking virus off planet, off dimension, out of here entirely! Do You GET Me?!?"

The sun never looked so good as it gleams through the Plug's entry doors, still slightly off kilter from the time an inmate attempted to escape when it all started. Outside the Zig, a crowd has amassed...including reporters, seeking answers as to what had transpired...

Does anyone want to provide a brief synapses, from their own character's point of view, regarding what transpired? If not, the Warden will most likely field questions from the reporters.

So I have two requests if it is possible.
First could you referrer to me as a middle age oriental gentleman know as Windwalker.  That I offered to help as I felt it was my civic duty to.
Second to make sure any paperwork need to be filled in up to date.  That a few key organization know that I am willing to help protect and serve the city.
I understand you call person with my powers a Hero if they serve the city.
I am happy to take on this roll as long as this is done with minium of attention to me.
I wish to keep a low profile and do not wish of any reward.

Is this possible?

Meanwhile...

Slowly backing away from the throng of rubberneckers and reporters, Husk slipped through the crowd and into the busy walkway. Abandoning his disguise as a Parameter Guard for a less remarkable visage of an everyday citizen of Paragon City, Husk cursed himself...for not only had he failed to locate and free any of the members of the Fifth Column, his endeavors nearly got him killed by whatever it was that was taking control of the Penitentiary's security systems. Still, whatever transpired, it seems the Zig was experiencing severe infrastructural failure. That would mean they would have to relocate some, if not all, of the inmates...especially those formerly affliated with the agency he knew only too well. The opportunity will arise again where he may liberate his allies...all he needed was time, and patience.

Husk gets no further than the Mashu Bridge, just before the PTA transit terminal, before a black van screeches in front of him as a black sedan screeches behind. The van's side door slides open revealing a well dressed man of military build and hairstyle sporting a firearm of uncertain origin as he says in a terse tone, "Get in, freak...the Director wants a word with you."

"Such convenience..." Husk thinks with a grin.

***

Splashing in sludge, three feminine forms descend from a startling flash of electricity into an expanse of sewers.

"Argh!" wails Twilight. "Of all the places you could have sent us...you had to choose the SEWERS?!?"

"Such sweet suffering..." croons Morose as she shimies closer to Twilight before getting shoved unceremoniously away.

"The Veil was still functioning, it was impossible attain a lateral vector...the only option available was to port down. If you're so dissappointed, you could port back up to your cell..." glowers Dominae as she lifts herself above the sludge like a spider on metallic legs.

Twilight sneers but eventually relents as she peruses the area with a look of disgust, "Fine, it was a good plan...now what?"

"First, we get out of the sewers..." replies Dominae.

"Then what?" inquires Morose. "Suffering?..."

Dominae gives Morose a wicked grin saying, "Yes, my dear, we get revenge...".

Husk, Dominae, Morose and Twilight are out of scene. To be seen again, dun-dun-duuunnn...

UV looked around, following closely behind the Warden. She was not used to this. She was not a hero, not really. She happened to be given a short leash to work with. People were dead inside, dead from a villainess. Dead from heroes. Possibly dead from her. UV had no idea if her encounter and the manic episode that followed hurt people. She hurt herself and that was hard to do. A pain in her hand drew her attention to her clenched fists. Releasing the white knuckle grip on herself, a determination filled her that she had not experienced since she gained her powers.

UV placed a hand on the Warden’s shoulder. “The Furies need to be brought in. I’ll do it. Morose and I have a score to settle anyways. You had my back, so I’m returning the favor. Whatever you need from me, I’ll do it if I can.”

In reply to UV (msg # 31):

Fury overheard that, and nodded. "Morose will be easy for me to track-especially if she keeps using her powers. I don't know if I can take the three of them myself. I will need help..." He said, looking from the Warden and at UV as he said it.

Tenzing turned to the two other hero's.
A very very rare smirk appears on the monks face.
Not a normal look and one that maybe says there deeper hidden side to the man.
If you feel someone is in need to play with some cute kittens.
Please let me know.  I feel she not had chance to explore this side of her nature completely.

Scene: The Core, Zigursky Penitentiary

Epilogue...

As the heroes depart, the Warden reluctantly takes on the role of filling in with PR detail. Not the most appealing position he finds himself put in, considering the condition the Zig is in. He regales upon the efficiency of the Penitentiary Guard and Personnel in the profoundly brief amount of time they had to contain and take appropriate measures regarding what he calls 'the incident'. He likewise informs of the overall condition of Zigursky Penitentiary, mandating that current surviving inmates be relocated to satellite PPD stations for holding until more relevant means and measures can be enabled for their continued incarceration (UV, WW and CF are all asked to assist in this endeavor...leaving their desire to pursue escapees a much delayed venture). He also specifically expresses his appreciation for four heroes, three of which were essential for ending the crisis - Crimson Fury, UV and Windwalker...one of which, unfortunately, didn't survive - Aegis-Magus (whose body was found in the ground floor's processing sector). The body of another hero is found, Sister Moon, who seemingly perished from what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries...

As time rolls on, further updates come in regarding the relative number of injuries...and casualties - approximately half of Penitentiary Personnel perished, half of those that survived exprienced severe injury. Of the inmates, two-thirds perished, the rest recieved injuries of some kind...or are simply unaccounted for. It seems The Furies were not the only ones that managed to find a way out during the crisis. Zigursky Penitentiary will need shutdown for repairs - a power plant needs replaced, multiple levels of electrical wiring and electronic systems need replaced, several Zigursky heavies also need to be replaced, interior damage is extensive and many security systems need replaced...which says nothing of needed personnel positions. It is speculated that an entirely new penitentiary might be cheaper...it's only because the Veil remained relatively unaffected that relocation is not fully considered. The Cerebreaum is not mentioned or covered, consistently referred to as 'a cataclysmic systems failure which allowed for a metahuman prison riot' and nothing more. Crey Industries is accused of being chiefly responsible for the failure of the Penitentiary's core power plant though no legal charges are pursued...

Elsewhere...

Husk lies strapped on a table, a sole light illuminating his impromptu condition as a man in a well-dressed suit and white hair approaches.

"To say that I'm upset that you took out my associate which I took great pains inserting within Zigursky Penitentiary's infrastructure...would be underselling myself. However, to eliminate the entire cadre that I sent to pick you up...," says the man before taking a deep breath, "...has truly tried my patience."

Husk merely grins...intimidation seldom worked on the symbiote that writhed inside him.

"I'm going to give you the opportunity to redeem yourself..." says the man in the suit dryly, "...where did you discard Johansen's remains?"

"We don't keep track of our prey once we're finished with them..." replies Husk with his own sense of malice, snarling and straining at the restraints.

"...and I don't think I made myself clear, let me put it to you this way - you can tell me where you left Johansen's body...or you can remain here while I find out exactly what it is that you can't recover from..." sneers the man as a series of tools and implements are brought to the fore while a man dressed in a doctor's smock comes forth igniting an industrial blowtorch.

The symbiote within Husk writhes in panic...

As clean up begins at Zigursky Penitentiary, a non-descript custodial agent rummages through a waste receptacle pulling a Zigursky Guard uniform from the bin.

"Director..." reports the custodial agent into a concealed mic, "...I found Johansen's uniform."

"...and the quantum containment device?" replies a voice.

The custodial agent rumages through the pockets of the torn and bloody uniform, pulling out a relatively minute though bulky hand-held device and replies with a mixed look of repulsion...and fear, "It's here, Director."

"Good, I expect delivery within the hour..." replies the voice before being interrupted.

"Director, are...you certain? The Zig...in just a couple of hours..." stammers the custodian.

"I didn't say 'a couple of hours', I said 'in an hour'...now you've got thirty minutes, and if you want any further part in this organization - never second guess me again, understood?" replies the voice tersely.

"Yes Director, in route." replies the custodian as he pocket the device as a strange spark oscillates within.

Cue music, roll credits - this concludes 'Shrodinger's Penitentiary'. Okay, looks like we got plethora of sub-plots and side missions to pursue...but for the most part, that was the adventure. Rest assured, we can keep going if you'd like - it is City of Heroes after all. For the most part, what did you think? Feel free to critique and comment in the Matrix Room - I never thought I'd get to the end of this adventure. Yeesh!
