In reply to Grimsby H. Baskerville (msg # 100):
Yeah, Grimsby, the first half of that post was a direct response to questions asked by Joseph - everything except the part about buying ammo here in Gibraltar. It's completely likely that Grimsby and Catherine could have walked up while Aubrey was talking and heard the entire thing.
Okay, about the shopping trip to come ...
We're in southern Spain. It's rural, but there are a few metropolitan areas within a few days travel - especially Gibraltar. Most of the town will have a small Garda presence (that would be Policia, today), but the roads can be a little dangerous, with small bands of banditos.
As long as we're dressed like affluent Ingles, we'll be treated as Persons of Station - that means we won't get hassled too much if we have to shoot a bandit on the road. However, no matter where you are, it is never a good idea to shoot anyone for any reason within the confines of a community - even if the other fella is trying to shoot you! It's just not civilized, don't cha'know. ^_^
So, most likely we'll be on the road for a day or three. The odds are pretty good that we'll be able to arrange are travels so that we end each day at a village where we might find an inn or some other place to stay the night. BUT! just in case we do have to camp by the side of the road, you might want to consider some light camping gear - some blankets, a piece of tarpaulin for ground cover or making a lean-to, a box of tissues...perhaps a packet or two of Gayetty's tissues for the W-C. Andalusia - southern Spain - at this time of year is much like New Mexico; it can be hot and dry during the day, and cool at night. Bring clothing you can layer. Good shoes/boots for walking (if the carriage breaks down) and culottes for ease of travelling. Or, as I'm sure Miss Felicity will suggest, just wear trousers ^_^
Light cotton or lines shirts, with a light jacket for cool evenings, and maybe a light cloak to go over that, if the evening gets chilly. Hats I will leave to you - Joseph is gentleman enough not to laugh at anything ridiculous, but I cannot vouchsafe that Felicity won't laugh outrageously at some of the more "socially acceptable" styles out there...
