Update

If its all right with the GM, maybe we can just say the 2 woman run off and quickly grab some traveling cloths for Catherine so we can move the game along. All Brie needs is another box of ammo.

In reply to Brie O'Malley (msg # 102):

That would be fine with me if it is agreeable to Catherine, since Grimsby himself has little to buy and would just be along on most of the shopping as his ward's escort.

Yeah, actually, ditto for Joseph. He's just coming off an expedition, and he just needs to re supply some ammo, and get a new box of Cubans, and he's good to go...

Grimsby's last post jumped ahead past the shopping, which I had understood we were going to pass over. Your new post suggests that you are playing out the shopping. Do you want me to revise Grimsby's last post to allow more time for shopping?

Still alive!

As bad as Hurricane Irma was, it wasn't all that bad. Almost no building damage has been reported, not even broken windows, but signs and lots and lots of trees have been uprooted.

15 million people without power. It's starting to come back online now, but probably won't have it at the house for another 2-3 days. Posting from a friend's workplace, which never actually lost power because it was part of the evacuation route.

All we had were a few roof leaks, and the backyard fence got blown down.

Update

10.5 days without power!

Lost power on the 9th just around noon as the hurricane passed by.

No power, no AC, no lights, no stove/microwave/toaster oven, no hot water, no TV, no computer, no modem, no internet.

Florida. Summer. Hot. Humid. Sat around in the dark and sweated. Didn't sleep well, didn't eat much.

Couldn't go anywhere since most places were also without power.

For a few days, gas was scarce, because most gas stations didn't have power, and so couldn't pump gas. The few that either had power or emergency generators had long lines and then ran out of gas. Tried getting by on ice, but so was everyone else, and ice quickly sold out.

Finally got power back about 8:30 last night.

So now we're cleaning up the mess.

It'll probably be another day or two before I get caught up on all my games.

Good luck GM, the longest we lost power for was 5 days due to a hurricane but we did have the damage to the area like you.

I do hope your cleanup continues successfully and your living conditions keep improving.
I will be happy to game once you are ready, but I will not be impatient if you need more time to recover first.

Holy cats, I just realized how long it had been since I checked in on this game. My sincere apologies about that, everyone. Wow, jeez, catching up on stuff now and slightly feeling like the worst.

In reply to Grimsby H. Baskerville (msg # 117):

I have been worried about how long it has taken Hernando to responnd to GRimsby and Catherine, but I just realized that may simplu be because the GM  is still doing cleanup. If so, we can keep knocking for a while longer.

Update

On the currency conversion, 12,000 pestas to Britsh pounds, I ran it through an online historical currency converter and came up with just under 500 pounds, but that seems high.  What does the GM intend the rate to be?

A site on Victoriana that I found listed a pair of horse as being 65 pounds. Had no idea there was an historical converter out there somewhere.

I am not at all sure the currency converter I found is accurate, at least for our purposes. I would say the GM could use whatever seems suitable.

Update

For future reference, I'll use And a Ten Foot Pole for reference. It gives prices for various time periods, and gives conversions from pounds sterling to dollars. I don't think they dealt with Spanish pesetas, though. The conversion isn't really important any way. Reminds me of an old Simon & Simon TV episode, where they get thrown into a Mexican jail. When told that the bail is 25,000 pesos, AJ starts wailing that they'll never get out--they don't have that kind of money. Then Rick informs him that 25,000 pesos is about $30. It's like if we valued everything in pennies. A $10 meal at Burger King would be 1000 pennies. And a new car would be 2.5 million pennies. Of course, for the meal, you'd still hand them a 1,000-penny bill.

In any case, Spain's economy is floundering at this time. Nearly all their colonies have been lost, and the treasure ships from the New World have stopped. There are too many 'corrupt' local lords that all want a piece of the pie, which keeps getting smaller and smaller. The king and administrators are struggling to shift the economy to something else.
