In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 6):

A cold mist forms around Spirit Caller. It seeps into the door until the entire thing freezes solid and shatters with a crash. The sound echos throughout the building (likely alerting anything inside, and possibly outside as well). The door is gone now, just a collection of ice crystals scattered on the floor.

The doorway opens into a tiled reception room. Comfortable cushioned benches line the walls beneath informational posters about data security, and a few potted ferns are kept in the corners. There is a map of the facility on the wall (Map 2). A reception desk is locked behind a glass case and wood paneling. Computers, file cabinets, office supplies, security badges, flash drives for data transport, and swivel chairs can be seen through the glass. Security cameras hang from the ceiling in glass domes. Red lights lights flash periodically; The sound of an alarm siren fills the room.

The main hallway branches into a group offices and conference rooms, the ground floor data library, and a stairwell, but it is closed off behind a solid wall of security glass. There is only one door in the glass wall, and it is open.

A large security drone about the size of a toddler buzzes through the hallway. It hovers above five feet above the ground. A single lens, glowing red, scans the surroundings as it patrols the hallway. The logo Long Fang is painted along its sleek body. It has not noticed you.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 8):

Casper disappears through the walls and begins to scout. (Casper rolls an 8). He returns just as Spirit Caller enters the hallway through the open door.

"All of the offices are empty, and so is the data library room, and the bathroom, and the stairwell, and the security office, and the closet. Nobody is here. Except for the drone, and all the backup drones in the security office. Ground floor is clear. I'm not sure about the other floors through. I didn't want to go up there in case of the spirit monster, you know?"

The hallway is tiled the same as the reception room. All of the rooms are either offices or conference rooms, except for the reception desk, cleaning closet, stairwell, and hallway into the data library. Motivational posters are framed on the wall and bathed in red light. The siren continues to blare.

As Spirit Caller walks down the hallway she is stopped by the drone. It hovers before her, scanning her. It quickly discovers she isn't an employee with proper security clearance and its recorded message.

"This is a lock-down situation. Until the alarm is deactivated you will remain where you are. You will not move unless security or police personal escort you, or until it has been deemed safe for regular movements to resume. Until the alarm is deactivated remain where you are."

Ice freezes over the drone's turbines, as cold seeps into its circuity, shutting it down. The drone crashes to the floor. It smashes on the tiles, breaking into several pieces. The sound is muffled by the sirens. The red lens flickers out.

Spirit Caller dashes into the reception room. Casper follows you too.

Their are two desks, each filled with various office supplies. They are covered in papers, mostly forms for new data transfers, or data removal. On the back are a series of employee key-cards. One is missing. The computers are on standby, fish flutter across the screens. A few toy guns are stacked in one corner beside the filing cabinets. One of the cabinet drawers has been pulled out and its folders rifled through. A few papers have been left on the floor. The office plants linger in the corners, while motivational posters, internet memes, and post-it-notes decorate the walls and desks.

The first thing Aiko does is grab a toy gun, and several employee key cards, just to make sure she can most definitely get into wherever she needs to. Then she goes onto the computers to see if she can get any information out of the computers, such as what's going on in particular, but she'll also pay attention to anything else out of the ordinary, like maybe a strange shipment of something. She wants to go prowling for anything suspicious.

Meanwhile, she asks Casper to search through the files to the best of his abilities to see if there is anything that he can find that would help with understanding what is going on.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 12):

Spirit Caller tucks one of the toy guns into her belt, as well as a few of the foam bullets. It is clunky and uncomfortable to wear. All of the key-cards dangle from her neck reflecting the flashing red light of the sirens.

Spirit Caller takes a seat and swipes a key-card across the computer's ID system. It logs in and opens to the standard company management window. It is a list of different orders, with short summaries of each order, no specifics. (Spirit Caller rolls a 7) Two files in particular catch her eye; the most recently opened file, opened not 40 minutes ago, is a storage request from the armor company Steelson's in regards to a new technology; Another file is listed as coming from The Tower, with no summary or explanation listed about what it is they wanted. Before Spirit Caller can access the files, the screen begins to flicker and distort. She has enough time to look at one file, but which one?

Meanwhile, Casper tries to open the file cabinet. He tries to look through the papers. He tries to read the documents. He tries to arrange them in the correct order. He tries to gather useful intelligence and piece together the motives behind this break-in. But, then he remembers he's a ghost and can't actually hold anything. This depresses Casper. He quietly considers his eternal unrest, floating listlessly through the air. (Casper rolled a 3)

Casper falls deeper into his depressed state as he realizes he isn't even worth Aiko's full attention as she throws him a compliment over her shoulder. (Spirit Caller rolled a 6)

"I should kill myself." He whispers to the potted plants. The plants turn away.

Spirit Caller decides to delve into the first file, pulling open the most recent file on Steelson's new technology. The files summarizes that Steelson's hired this data-storage firm to keep secure a set of research notes and theories about a newly created technology referred to only as The Emperor's Better Clothes. The file notes it was stored on the third floor, row R, shelf 57. The Emperor's Better Clothes was a prototype armor that has not yet gone into development due to a loss of the prototype armor and the chief researcher, Dr. Ita Gangesh. What these "Clothes" do is not specified, but Steelson's paid very well to keep the notes secure.

Just as Spirit Caller finishes reading, a virus infects the computer system, activating lock-down mode. The computers all switch to the red lock-down screen and refuse to leave it.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 18):

A spiraling stream of metallic tendrils tears a split in reality. The tendrils bat away the filing cabinets, shattering the pieces into dust. Cables reach out of the split and pull out a strange spirit. It is a writhing mass of twisted metal flails, standing on thick legs of multicolored cords and cables. All of this grows from the harden metal shell of the spirit. It's shell is a beautiful metallic luster that shines with cold silver light. Green numbers play across the hard metallic carapace in endless lines of code. Many eyes peer out from within the shell, some green dots, others red cross hairs, and still others like shinning black mirrors. The spirit disintegrates the remaining filing cabinets and all of their contents.

It turns to Spirit Caller and across its shell, in green letters, it says only, "I am the ghost in the shell. I will aid you for now." (Spirit Caller rolled an 11)

The way to the third floor seems clear. No figures can be seen blocking the path, no more traps appear to have been lain.

"Wicked!" Spirit Caller shouts in triumph! "Let's go get whoever threw those cabinets down and show him what really hurt really looks like!" With that she begins to rush towards the room where the Steelson company had stores it's technology. As she dashes up the stairs and to the room with Casper and her new companion, the mysterious Ghost in the Shell, she keeps her eyes peered for whatever seems out of the ordinary, looking in particular for any figures or drones that may have aided in trying to block her from the third floor.

In the moment she also decides to try to empower Casper with hope and confidence, asking him to be strong in the moment as it's their chance to prove their potential and worth as vigilante heroes. If she succeeds in her heroic talk, she would ask Casper to go and scout the area around them again and to report back enthusiastically with either signs of the all clear, danger, or anything out of the ordinary (OH SWEET BABY SHE ROLLED AN 11 OH LORDY CASPER BETTER FEEL LIKE KEL'THUZAD).

Aiko also screams profanity out to the halls, taunting whoever tried to hurt her.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 20):

Inspired by Spirit Caller's encouraging words and the arrival of the Ghost in the Shell, Casper flies through the walls into the next room. The Ghost in the Shell perches above the doorway, clinging to the walls with his steel-tipped cables, his flails poised to strike. As Spirit Caller makes her way to the door she notes that there are no drag marks, meaning the filing cabinets must have lifted instead of dragged or wheeled into the stairwell. There is no sign of the person responsible. Spirit Caller throws open the door into the data-storage room.

Unlike the ground floor which is composed of offices , the third floor is one massive room filled with labyrinthine rows of computer servers humming quietly under the shrill cry of the sirens. The cool blue glow is overwhelmed by the flashing red emergency lights. Computer terminals are laid into the wall, flashing red in lock-down mode, and few desks are scattered about he room. Their is a spot along the wall were the filing cabinet's should have been. Large rectangular windows go across all four walls. They are darkly tinted, but you can see outside where people and cars are going by, the 24-Hour Ramen Place is filled with a party of teenagers, the Pachinko Parlor is packed with rowdy old men, two of them are starting a fight outside the parlor, and the Russian Orthodox Charity Center is sending someone over to quiet them down for the third time tonight. They cannot see in. Inside, the room is sweltering hot. The warm air rushes out of the doorway, making Spirit Caller sweat as she enters.

Just as she steps into the room a drone, exactly like the one she saw, flies towards her. It's weapons are armed, the under-slung taser rifle revealed from its hidden compartment underneath the drone. It flies directly to Spirit caller and begins to speak in a stilted, computerized voice.

"Look what I found! I got the idea from Shelly. No dark spirit is gonna be sneaking up one me, ha! That's also because I couldn't find it, or anyone else. But the laptop downloading the files from the storage banks is still there, and it's still downloading the files to a flash-drive. C'mon I can take you, it's in row R, shelf 57, but this place is like a maze when you have a physical body. If I didn't have the internal map of the area I'd probably get lost."

The Ghost in the Shell breezes into the room and clings to the wall above the door. The numbers moving across his metal shell turn from green to blue as he synchronizes with the room. His many eyes stare at Spirit Caller, ready for instructions.

Spirit Caller follows Casper to to Row R, shelf 57. and decides to wait for all the information to transfer to the flash drive before taking it, asking Casper to keep watch of halls just in case of danger. As the two wait for the flash drive, she asks the Ghost in the Shell to do everything he can to find out who it was that attacked her and what they were doing here, and if anyone is still in the building that Casper could not have otherwise found. She also decides that if someone is still on the same floor, that the ghost should not attack until notifying Aiko first.

She also decides to fiddle with the blue gem in her bag while they're on the lookout and waiting for the flash drive. She also tries to focus on anything that sounds off-putting, like footsteps that aren't her own or the Ghost in the Shell's.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 22):

Casper leads the way, buzzing through the rows of servers. He is still a little jumpy and points his taser rifle at the shadows every so often. Once Spirit Caller arrives at the scene, Casper flies above the servers and begin to patrol.

Spirit Caller can see a laptop sitting on top of an overturned crate, blue light spilling out over the tile floor. Emergency lights and sirens continue to go off in the background. A wire attaches it to a port in the data-storage server on one end. On the other is a small flash drive. The desktop is completely empty except for a loading bar which is at 98%.

(The download will complete in two turns)

Appearing in blue letters across Ghost in the Shell's metal carapace are the words,

"I will interface with the computer systems. It will take time."

(Ghost in the Shell is unavailable for two turns)

He moves towards one of the computer terminals on the wall. His metallic hull cracks open, and a series of wire jacks and cables slither towards the computer terminal, attaching themselves to ports and spliced cables. The screen flashes between lock-down and desktop as blue lines of code creep across it, eventually overrunning the entire screen. After a few minutes, words scroll across Ghost in the Shell's body.

"The security footage reveals a humanoid heat signature is responsible for the attack. Besides the computer virus, which has proven effective at blocking even my intrusions, the robbery was inefficient; Evidence of an amateur burglar, possibly hired by a competitor of Steelson's. I cannot access what they are attempting to steal. There is only one attacker, however. The security scans show they are right behind you!"

(Ghost in the Shell rolled a 7 (5+2) to discover who the attacker was, a 6 (4+2) to discover what the attack was doing, and an 8 (6+2) to discover who else is in the building)

Spirit Caller looks behind her. She can see nothing but empty space between the server stacks.

As this happens, Casper flies into the next row of servers. As soon as he floats to the ground he feels something hit him from behind! Casper turns around and sees the shadow. He fires off his taser rifle, but misses every shot. The weapon hums as it begins to recharge its batteries. Casper turns and runs.

(Casper rolled a 3 to search)

"Spirit Caller! The shadow is over here. The shadow demon is going to catch me! Help!"

Spirit Caller heaves the plastic crate around her in a great swing. The laptop fall to the floor with a clatter. The plastic crate flies threw the air, passing right over the shadows and slamming into the floor beyond with a crash. Such a mighty throw took Spirit Caller off her balance, however. As she threw the crate, she tripped on her own feet and smashed her face on the floor. Her nose begins to bleed. A pained moan escapes her, thankfully drowned out by the emergency sirens.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 2 for her attack)

The taste of her own blood as it trickled down her nose and into her mouth urged Spirit Caller to seek aid. Concentrating on the cold world of the other side, Spirit Caller sought aid. But all the noise, the siren, the flashing light, the smell of blood and sweat, was nearly overwhelming. Her concentration flickered, causing Ghost in the Shell to partially dissipate as his connection to the living world weakens. Ghost in the Shell strengthens his connection with the living world, but it will require his full attention.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 7 to summon a ghost; Ghost in the Shell is unavailable for one more turn--two turns left until he is available.)

But, Spirit Caller's cry for help did not go unnoticed! From out of nowhere appears the ghost of a man. He is large, stocky, and very well built, but has a number of stab wounds that bleed from his abdomen. A thin, bloody undershirt covers his chest, and he wears blue track pants and sneakers. His scarred face is roughly shaven except for a bushy mustache under his broken nose. His hair is disheveled. A gold chain hangs around his snake-tattooed neck. A large grinning smile is also tattooed on his collar bone, and a pair of devils dance along his arms.

He looks directly at Spirit Caller's prone form, crumpled up against the floor, and smiles, showing his broken and jagged teeth.

"I heard you needed help, comrade. And I think you certainly do. Let Uncle Josef lend you a few fists!"

Uncle Josef cracks his bloodied and bruised knuckles, ready for the fight.

Josef sticks close to Spirit Caller, ready to punch anything that comes close.

The Ghost in the Shell remains on standby, as lines of code race across his flickering body. His limbs seem to flail in and out of reality. He seems to be stabilizing.

(Ghost in the Shell will be available in 1 more turn)

Casper hovers nearby, taser rifle darting from shadow to shadow. He fires again and again.

"I got it Spirit Caller. No, wait, that was just a shadow. A-ha, now I got, nope, wait, never mind. But this time, oh I just shot another shadow again. There are a lot of shadows actually, it's kind of hard to tell what's a demon and what isn't. Is that a demon? No, just a shadow again. Hmmmmm."

The emergency siren still sounds off through out the server room. Red light flash on and off, creating shadows, erasing them, and recreating them again. The entire room is red, no other colors is seen, except the silvery color of Ghost in the Shell's body, and Josef's eerie blue glow.

But, he doesn't let up, not even for a moment, as a sneaky left hook cuts into the air, blowing it upwards until it cracks the ceiling. A few loose tiles clatter onto the floor as the air sinks down. Josef glares at his dazed opponent and finishes the fight with a flying roundhouse Russian bear-kick that slams the air with such a force that it is shakes the floor. Even the air inside Spirit Caller is knocked out, and for a moment she can't breathe. But, Josef beats it back into her with a single swift headbutt. The air lies still. It smells of blood and sweat.

(Josef rolls a 13 (11+2)! to beat the air)

Casper continues to zap the shadows with his taser rifle. He hasn't managed to hit any shadow demons yet, but he's trying.

Spirit Caller is trying too, but between the "HYAH!" and before the "KA-CHOW!" Spirit Caller looks down and notices that the laptop has finished downloading whatever it was downloading. The screen has actually shut off, quelling the blue glow from before. The loading bar is at 100%. But, what she really notices, is that the flash drive is missing.

Ghost in the Shell reconstitutes his form. Words frantically scroll across his shell as it solidifies in the living world.

"THERE IS NO SHADOW DEMON. IT IS A HUMANOID. I CAN SEE IT THROUGH HE SECURITY CAMERA'S HEAT SENSOR. IT'S ALREADY AT THE STAIRWELL!"
