In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 81):

Spirit Caller raises a finger to her lips, silencing Toby. The ghost dog immediately stops wagging it's tail and returns to growling at the bear. She watches as the bear enters the gave. Once the bear is far enough inside, Spirit Caller sneaks in after. The bear doesn't notice a thing as it heads deeper into the cave.

(Spirit Caller rolls a 10 to sneak behind the bear)

A short distance into the cave, the bear stops and drops Ruckus into a pile of bodies. They are all bodies of campers. Their clothes are torn and they are covered in dirt and twigs, among them are two teenage boys in hoodies and beanies, a middle-aged woman in a pink sweater, a balding man smelling of bug spray, and a park ranger, missing both her boots and her hat. All of them are in the same state as Ruckus, unconscious, blue, cold skin, white eyes. Ruckus' body rolls off the body mound and falls partially on a red circle drawn in the ground.

The red circle is about five feet wide and drawn in a thick mixture of paint and herbs. Inside are a strange assortment of items: lizard bones, sea shells, a vial of green liquid, sea weed, crystals. In the very center, driven into the ground, is a 'Y' shaped stick craved with glowing runes. The bear paces around the circle. Every now and then it nudges a body towards the circle, but it never steps near or inside it.

Spirit Caller focuses in on Ruckus. He is entirely unconscious. His skin is blue and cold as ice. His eyes are entirely white. But, as Spirit Caller looks closer, she can see his lips moving, as if he is speaking. Actually, all the bodies seem to move their lips, one after the other, as if they're having a conversation. Spirit Caller notes how much they all look like ghosts.

But, before she can do anything, Spirit Caller hears something behind her. It's the sound of boots scraping against the rock as if someone is making their way into the cave. Spirit Caller can make out a human figure, dresses in a leather jacket, carrying a backpack stuffed to the seams, and wearing a wide brimmed fedora. If Spirit Caller can hear it, maybe the bear will too. So far though, it doesn't react to the sound. It just stares at the red circle painted in the dust.

(Spirit Caller rolls a 7 to inspect Ruckus)

Spirit Caller nods to Toby as appreciatively as she can and smiles before dismissing him back into his own spiritual world, making sure he knows he was very helpful and a very good dog. She does this just in case the person walking in is able to see Toby. Then she sits tightly to watch and observe, and also tries to reconnect with Miss.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 83):

Toby's wagging tail is the last thing Spirit Caller sees as his body dissolves into nothingness on its return to the Otherworld.

Spirit Caller tries to reconnect with Miss, but instead of hearing her voice, Spirit Caller hears the distant murmurs of a conversation. The voices are soft, but they echo in Spirit Caller's ears. They grow louder as Spirit Caller concentrates.

"I'm, like, not sure what happened! I just, I was camping and a dog came and a bear. It was awesome! I've never met a real spirit before . . ."

"You sure are an odd one honey . . ."

"Don't speak to him Maureen. You'll only encourage him . . ."

"Everybody remain calm. The forest can be unpredictable, but I am trained for this very situation. Our best course of action is to remain calm and stay put. . ."

"Um, I think, maybe we should get it. That, maybe, could be why he brought us here . . ."

"Pfft, like, why does it matter anyway? We're not getting out of here . . ."

(Spirit Caller rolled a 5 to connect with Miss)

As the person moves through the cave, Spirit Caller begins to make out details.

It is a young woman in her early twenties. Long blonde locks flow out under her leather fedora. She is dressed in a rugged leather jacket, a white shirt, and tan canvas pants. Gravel crunches under her hiking boots, and a plethora of things dangle from her belt (bottles, flasks, pouches, a whip, a gun, a few belts of ammunition). More things bulge out of her backpack; the outlines of scepters, masks, scrolls, and books push against the backpack. She also has a small carpet, rolled up and tied with rope, on her back. The carpet squirms ever so slightly. In her hand is a metal wand topped with a purple crystal. Around her neck is a strange vial of glowing liquid.

The woman steps into the cave and shouts "Don't worry luv, cavalry's 'ere!" and raises her wand to the growling blue bear.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 85):

Spirit Caller creeps further into the darkness, disappearing from notice. Silently, she calls into the cold world of the afterlife in search of aid. As she concentrates, the quiet conversation she heard earlier grows in volume. Out of the air appears Ruckus! He's a ghost now! and he loves it! He seems to be in mid-conversation when he notices he is back in the waking world. He spots Spirit Caller, and a huge smile spreads across his face.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 12 to summon a spirit; Spirit Caller rolled a 10 to stay quiet)

"Sick. You're Spirit Caller. I help run your fan-site. I got rid of the hentai pics. Am I floating? Oh, I'd inject this all day. Sick. I'm a ghost." Ruckus whispers, intuitively sensing Spirit Caller's desire to stay hidden.

From out near the mouth of the cave, Spirit Caller can make out Casper's form hovering slowly through the cave. He is dipping in and out of the rock, trying to remain hidden. He waves to Spirit Caller.

The woman points her wand at the bear. Purple bolts of energy spiral out of the crystal topped staff and slam into the bear. The blue fur burns away leaving bloody red splotches where the bolts hit. The bear roars and charges the woman. But, compelled by a mysterious force, the bear stops suddenly a few feet from her. It tries to push forward but cannot or its body begins to dissolve into swirling mists. The woman laughs at the bear before moving past it towards the red circle. She kicks Ruckus' body off the circle and steps in. She seems to be inspecting the circle and everything inside it.

When she kicks him, Ruckus' form shivers slightly as if he is passing through realms.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 87):

Casper dives through the cave walls and reappears beside Spirit Caller and Ruckus.

"I don't like this place, Spirit Caller. Why don't we just leave?"

Ruckus smiles, giddy to meet another living, breathing ghost, here in real life, in the flesh. It takes everything he has to keep quiet.

"Sick. You're a ghost too. Isn't this great? I was just camping and then this giant, monster-dog jumped out of the forest. It jumped, like, right over my head and into this giant, blue bear. I screamed because it was so sick. Then the bear killed me. It got me right here." Ruckus says.

He points at his chest. His jacket and shirt are ripped, but his actual body has no wounds.

"Then I was in this giant forest that looked exactly like this forest. Then I was in a cave that looked exactly like this cave. But, like, there were other people there. It was sick cause we were all ghosts. And they were all killed by the bear too. I don't know who the lady is, but everything went red when she started walking in. I'm not getting good waves off her, either, or that stuff on the ground. Wait, oh, uh-huh, yeah I can tell her. Marcus says he thinks the lady is using the scepter for something. She's channeling power into it, and that is, like, what's upsetting the big bear. Also he thinks she has something that keeps the bear away. He thinks it might keep all ghosts away though, since he can't go near her. Can you, like, see them by the way?" Ruckus says.

"I agree. She doesn't seem nice. Let's leave." Casper says.

The woman continues to look at the scepter in the center of the circle. Every now and then she shoots the bear with her wand. The bear is pacing around the circle. He is eyeing the woman.

In reply to Spirit Caller (msg # 89):

Spirit Caller tries to reconnect with Miss and finally breaks through the miasma of spiritual power. It is a feint connection, but enough for Spirit Caller to learn that Wawa had made it to her safely. Miss also confirms that the people aren't dead, but that they have been put into a spirit-induced coma by the Bear Spirit. Miss had found and treated the Unconscious Camper already, and she has calmed the Frightened Camper as well. Defeating and banishing the spirit or convincing it to release its curse on the victims will end the coma. Otherwise, everything seems well on her end.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 7 to connect with Miss)

Ruckus screws his face up as if he's trying to listen to something far off. He nods his head a few times and then turns to Spirit Caller.

"Okay, yeah, I can tell her. So, Ranger Carroll says the bear's name is Tutonok. He's, like, a protector spirit that's supposed to look after the island and it's sacred mountain. At least, that's what Ranger Carroll learned. He sounds like he should he a good guy. And, oh, yeah, that's probably it. Me and Chan think the scepter is, like, a diving rod cause it looks like one, sorta. So it's used to track something. Maybe she's looking for super spirit water and she needs to suck the spirit energy out of the mountain and that's why the Spirit Bear is going crazy cause it needs help but everyone is, like, running away from it so it has to stop them then bring them here but it doesn't understand that we can't do anything as ghosts. Sick! I think we got it Chan, high five!"

Freeeeeezzz

A frost begins to form around Spirit Caller as she steps out from her hiding place. The circle of frost creeps along the ground, but stops when it meets the summoning circle, as if the circle is draining the energy from the cold. The frosty aura is maintained only around Spirit Caller's immediate person. It shrouds her in a cool mist. Dim blue light emanates from the ritual circle, lighting up the otherwise dark cave, but casting long shadows across the wall. Spare rocks line the floors as well as discarded shoes, wallets, a Park Ranger flashlight, and a few crumpled granola bars.

Across the magic circle, the Spirit Bear ignores Spirit Caller completely. His eyes are set on the woman. He stands his ground, but growls occasionally at the woman.

Standing inside the ritual circle, the woman stares at Spirit Caller with wide eyes. Then a smile crosses her face. With a boot up on the body pile, she flicks out her e-cig, and she takes a long drag. Smoke licks around her lips as she speaks. The air smells of mint.

"You're a magician luv? That's perfect! I love magic, and I could really use a sidekick. Once I have this scepter fully charged, in a minute or two, we can go have a pint and talk it. First thing'ill be costumes. Then names. I'm Magicana Jane. Who are you?"

(The scepter will be charged in 2 turns)

Despite her friendly demeanor, Magicana Jane holds her wand at the ready. She uses her other hand to smoke and push back her hair. She stands within jumping distance from Spirit Caller. The bear is just behind Magicana Jane, standing outside the ritual circle.

Both Casper and Ruckus remain hidden. They lie in wait for orders.

Magicana Jane raises an eyebrow at Spirit Caller. She puts out her e-cig and tucks it back into her breast pocket. She chuckles a bit, obviously not taking Spirit Caller seriously.

"You're not the brightest, huh, luv? No worries. Like I said, we can talk, after I finish with the scepter. Until then, you sit tight and don't talk unless you have something nice to say. Also think of a good name that fits well with mine, something playing off the name "Short Round" maybe." Magicana Jane says.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 4 to intimidate Magicana Jane; the scepter will be charged in 1 turn)

The Spirit Bear stares at Magicana Jane menacingly. The bear remains on the opposite side of the ritual circle, growling. It is clear that the bear hates and despises her.

Spirit Caller reaches into the Otherworld and drags forth an apparition of immense proportions. A giant knight appears from thin air. He is clad in spectral armor and hovers above the ground. His skeletal hands clutch the hilt of his wickedly curved blade. Across his helmet is carved the screaming face of a ghoulish woman. The armored beak plunges out of her open maw. Her twitching eyes stare down her distended face, and the lengths of her slack, ratty hair drift in the air as if underwater. Upon the knight's breastplate are the woman's gnarled hands and elongated arms, wrapping around him as if to keep from falling off, digging into the metal like tree roots through concrete. The knight's pauldrons burn with green fire that spit cackling energy into the air. Carved into the trim on his shoulders are the words "The Emperor's Uncompromising Soldier" over and over again. His spiked sabatons tear into the stone as he hovers behind Spirit Caller.

The distant moaning of tormented souls and clash of forgotten battles echos from the knight's helm; he seems incapable of talking.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 15 to summon a spirit)

The Soldier stands outside of the ritual circle.

Spirit Caller dives into the circle and grabs at the scepter. She gets her hands around it, but as soon as she does her entire body grows suddenly cold as Spirit Caller discovers herself cut-off from her spirits! It seems entering the ritual circle designed to keep away ghosts and spirits has severed Spirit Caller's connection with her own summoned spirits!

Spirit Caller has the scepter in her hands, but she cannot control or order her spirits this turn; it's as if they aren't there.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 7 to grab the scepter; Spirit Caller can regain control of her spirits the turn after she leaves the ritual circle)

The scepter glows bright blue with power. Spirit Caller can hear in the far, far distance the sound of icy winds and lapping ocean waves. The scepter is just barely colder than should be, and the hilt feels slippery as if it were a little bit wet.

(The scepter will be fully charged next turn)

The Spirit Bear roars with anger. It hatefully stares at Spirit Caller, then to Magicana Jane, then back to Spirit Caller. It seems ready to charge. Blue mist evaporates off the bear's body, faster than it did before. The red gashes appear to be growing across the Spirit Bear's chest and back.

Magicana Jane points her wand at Spirit Caller and smiles as she unleashes a barrage of energy missiles from the purple crystal of her wand. The arcane bolts are flying towards Spirit Caller intent on plunging through her body and causing serious, magical harm.

Spirit Caller throws herself at Magicana Jane in an attempt to sumo-wrestle her out of the ritual circle. But, the magic missiles slam into her chest. They sizzle and burn with arcane energies.

Fftttzzzzzz! Fftzzz! Fftzz!

Spirit Caller is thrown onto the floor. The scepter flies out of her hand (Whooosh!) as her back impacts the hard stone floor. Ritual components go scattering throughout the cave. Magicana Jane grabs the scepter and begins a hasty egress from the dark cave. She holds the scepter in the same hand as her Arcane Wand. With the other hand she reaches for the restrained carpet on her back. Magicana Jane is just outside of the ritual circle, facing the cave exit. Moonlight spills into the dark cave from the outside world, lighting the way into the forest. It glistens off Magicana Jane's wicked smile.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 6 to tackle Magicana Jane; It will take 3 turns to exit the cave (it's a long cave))

Spirit Caller sucks up the pain and rolls out of the ritual circle as well. She is on the opposite side of the circle, facing the end of the cave. Instantly her connection with the spirits is reestablished.

The Solider is still standing beside the ritual circle. Casper is hiding behind The Solider, right up against the cave wall. The pile of bodies lie idle beside the ritual circle (They are right beside Magicana Jane, facing the cave entrance)

(Spirit Caller may control her spirits as normal)

Grrrraaaaaaaaaaaahhh!
klik       klak        klik       klak        krack

The Spirit Bear roars loudly. The cave walls begin to shake, and small stones fall from the ceiling and clatter along the ground. It begins to charge at Magicana Jane, but is still beside the ritual circle (opposite to the solider). Its body seems to be dissolving, great billows of blue smoke fume from the bear's shoulders. Crimson gashes grow across its chest, spreading like a virus onto its limbs.

Aiko tries to avoid the ritual circle and carefully walks around it. She then orders her spirit soldier to charge at the Magicana Jane but to also dodge her incoming attacks. When she gets safely around the ritual circle she does two things.

The first thing she does takes top priority, and it's to establish a connection with the bear (not summoning a new spirit just talking to one that's current visible mind you) and to try to keep it mended and well.

She also uses her freezing aura to freeze the ground that Magicana Jane is trying to run over in an attempt to freeze her feet and slow her down so her soldier can catch up to her.

Spirit Caller summons an icy breeze from the realm of the after life. It blows throught he cave with a rush. Ice forms along the floor. Magicana Jane slips and falls flat on her face! WHAM! Her groans echo through the cave. A bit of blood drips from her nose drips onto the ice.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 9 to freeze the ground; It will still take 3 turns for Magicana Jane to escape the cave)

As Magicana Jane smacks her nose on the ice, Spirit Caller focuses in on the Spirit Bear. She reaches into the magic aura of Fang Island. It is ancient and cold, but smells of forest pines and running water. Spirit Caller sifts through the clouds of magic and connects with Tutonok, the Guardian Spirit Bear. But the magic is turbulent. It is boiling with Tutonok's rage, and it tears Spirit Caller from her physical body and engulfs her spiritual form!

Spirit Caller awakes in an empty cave decorated with swirling lights, where blue mist creeps along the ground and falls into cracks and crevices that seethe with red light.

(Spirit Caller rolled a 5 to connect with Spirit bear)

Tutonok, the Spirit Bear, enters the cave. He is a giant brown bear with a scared face and a heavy gait. Red wounds bleed across his chest and back, piercing wounds as if from a missile. The blood stains his fur. Waves of heat flow off his body. As he walks, the mist dissolves with a hiss. He looks angry.

"Who are you, thief who would steal the magic of the mountain?! How did you invade my sanctum? Speak now, or I will rend you limb from limb, and speak quickly for I must save the mountain from the other thief.

Aiko stares at herself and around the cave and then back at the bear. "My name is Aiko Izumi, or right now known as the Spirit Caller, from the city, the slums known as Wasabiland. I'm not a thief though, I've the ability to connect with the spiritual world naturally, to call upon ghosts, spirits, demons, and to summon the chilling aura that it gives off. I did not come here to steal your power, and I did not send Toby, the spirit dog, to hunt you down specifically. I came here to save the people who were dying, I called a spirit named Miss to aid the campers who survived attacks that they said you made on them, and I followed Toby back to you dumping a body back in this cave. What say you with attacking the campers? And what is Magicana Jane doing? And how do I get the campers' spirits back in their bodies? Speak before the one you think is a thief gets away."

As she speaks she does her best to look heroic and trust worthy.

Tutonok sees Spirit Caller's stance of heroism and strength and adopts his own; he stands on his hind legs, head nearly scraping the ceiling. He bows his head respectfully before speaking on.

"You are the strangest shaman I have ever met, AikoIzumi now known SpiritCaller. You do not wear the traditional garb of a Kalu'ak shaman. When this is incursion has been dealt with, we will commune in tranquility, and I will know your tribe and character. But, you say you wish to help? Than stop the MagicanaJane from stealing the spiritual energy of the sacred mountain. Without it, I will cease to be, and the barriers will break."

Tutonok curls his snout at the thought. He unleashes a roar that parts the mists all the way to the entrance of the cave. Outside of the cave is a blinding white light, but Spirit Caller can just make out six figures.

One is Ruckus! He is pacing back and forth with another two kids, one in a beanie, the other with his hood up. They appear to be talking with one another. A worried middle-aged couple stand nearby, the woman, in her pink sweater, holds her balding husband. The park ranger with frizzy red hair, standing in her socks, seems to be giving orders that nobody is following. Spirit Caller can hear sounds of their conversation, but it is distant and indistinct. The harder she focuses on them, the further away they seem to be.

Tutonok shakes his head at the group of campers. The mists crash together, climbing to the ceiling and cutting of the blinding light.

"I sought those braves, but they all ran from me. I had to drag them here, but not one has awoken from spiritual slumber to help me, for I cannot touch the MagicanaJane while she wears her pendant otherwise I'd have trapped her in this realm. The tribe sends such weak braves to aid me. I can release them, but not until the mountain is safe. Shaman AikoIzumi now know SpiritCaller, destroy the stick MagicanaJane has used to steal the mountain's spirit energy. Then the useless braves can be released, and we can speak on calmer terms."

Mists swirl around Spirit Caller as she is sent back to the real world. She reenters the world to discover that Magicana Jane has nearly made it to the exit!

Very gingerly, Magicana Jane has crawled along the icy floor towards the exit, but just before she makes it out a second blast of icy wind flows into the cave freezing another layer of ice over the cave floor. Magicana Jane slips again and slams into the ground. WHAM!

(Spirit Caller rolled an 8 for her ice powers)

"Oh! Bloody hell! What was that for, luv, really?" Magicana Jane says just before she looks back and sees Spirit Caller dashing after her!

But, Spirit Caller didn't anticipate the ice being quite so slippery, and she falls. Spirit Caller skids across the cave right into Magicana Jane. Making the best of it, Spirit Caller leaps on top of Magicana Jane. Magicana Jane continues to crawl out of the cave, even with Spirit Caller punching her back. Magicana Jane is holding her Arcane Wand, and the Scepter in one hand. In the other is a rolled up, twitching carpet.
