The play is the thing

OOC: In general, Dacc-Dacc tries to avoid attention, but is not actively seeking to sneak.  They want information from the woman and they are find simply asking for it.

Dacc-Dacc continues to follow the woman while taking in as much of the scenery as they can without losing her.  They had almost nothing left to steal and hadn't roused any anger in the area, as far as they were aware.  The sight of non-human inhabitants, however intimidating, was slightly reassuring.  Dacc-Dacc figured they were slightly less likely to be immediately killed if someone pegged them for a mutant.

Dacc-Dacc did their best to note the turns, landmarks, even the smells that marked the path they were following.

In reply to Dacc-Dacc (msg # 979):

You see the woman talk casually to several people and non-humans on the street. Never quite stopping to chat rather a simple greeting or salutation. You notice she is heading to the red light district of the city. Here the external exhaust of the mecha plants vent out. Not the foul and dangerous fumes. Rather steam and water pour from the vents in the streets at the beginning as well as at the end of the day. While the streets are wet, puddles of water on the thristy earth. The dryness of those same streets will soak it all up in a matter of hours. Taking hundreds of gallons away like a desert mirage.
You see the woman in red sit at a table at an outdoor cafe. A mutant takes her order, brings her a sweating glass, and leaves. The woman is facing in your direction as she drinks.

Dacc-Dacc scans the area for others who may be watching her or them.  They do not want to walk into a trap.  If there seems to be no discernible menace, they will approach the woman and ask, "Pardon me.  Would you be so kind as to answer a question or two for me?"

OOC: Scanning the crowd roll was 18.  I also made a pre-emptive use of Scan esotery, either to gain more info on potential threats (if I am near enough) or to get a better sense of Tessa when I sit down with her.  Roll on that was a 9.  Intellect pool reduced by 1 to 13.

Zu gives his comrade a sympathetic smile. "'Knowledge is a sword that cuts both ways', my teacher Caruvyn used to tell us. But getting cut is better than losing your head, I think."
He starts to put a hand on the other man's shoulder but seems to reconsider at the last minute. He lets the hand drop to his side awkwardly.
"Either way, your knowledge was put to good use back there. We'd all be dead if you hadn't saved us. Thank you."

In reply to Dacc-Dacc (msg # 983):

(Good rolls)
You look and notice that although there are several toughs in the area, none takes any real interest in you. The most dangerous being a pair of humanoids staring at each other from across opposite ends of one side of the courtyard. One is a hulking mutant with translucent skin that seems to be shifting and crawling/moving over his form. The one on the other side is a large true Lemurian. Looking like a cross between ancient hominid, gorilla, and bigfoot. This being carries an impossibly large sword and canon he is using as a rifle.
You look at the girl and you notice she has seen you but although she stares at you she continues to eat the meal she has ordered. Slurping a noodle as you approach.

The old conjurer smiles. "Thank you my young friend. Surely we would have all perished had any of us done less then our upmost. As for my flesh the power IS corrupting but I shall lend on Modellii's wealth to receive the best numenera and cyphers! Will I not Modellii?"
Modellii looks at the two of you wiping his mouth with the back of his hand."I have no trunk with the powers you called old man,..but you saved us all regardless." Smiling wide again he says,"and by this very night we shall be feasting on spiced bread and roasted meats. And perhaps watch Zafritti dance! Look the city!" Pointing you can see the barely there outline of Abaddrah.

In reply to Tessa (msg # 985):

Dacc-Dacc approaches the woman.  They continue to mind the antagonistic behemoths, just in case they need to get out of the way.  They also try to note the menu and prices, just in case a member of the wait staff insists on them placing an order.

When they are by the table, but not looming over it, Dacc-Dacc asks, "Pardon me.  Would you be so kind as to answer a question or two for me?"

They spread their empty hands in a non-threatening gesture.  Dacc-Dacc is guessing, given the number of non-humans and mutants in the crowd, that their scales will cause the woman no meaningful shock or revulsion.  In those brief seconds, they also Scan the woman to get a sense of her composition, available tools, and any other useful information about the immediate vicinity.

In reply to Dacc-Dacc (msg # 987):

The prices are relatively cheap at the outdoor eatery. (Think modern Fast Food $$Prices$$$)
The woman looks up at you and you think you see a slight smile on her lips. "Hiya," she says between chewing. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm not working at the moment. Even working girls need a break now and again." Drinking some of her beverage that you now see has some sort of small brine shrimp like creatures flaying in it. "Of course if your interested in the other services I provide I might be able to help you with that." She offers a seat to you.
(Scan for anything on the girl will be two rolls. First at a diff lvl 2 (6+), the second to find more hidden things will be at a diff lvl 4 (12+)
Glancing up a little she adds. "It's a good idea to keep an eye on our surroundings though. With the Martian Synth-Man and a member of the Lemurian royal guard staring at each other."

Dacc-Dacc accepts the offered seat.  "Thank you for the courtesy and the warning.  They do seem a bit ... volatile, I agree."    They glance again back and forth between the menacing foes.  "With any luck, they will take their quarrel elsewhere before we would need to worry about."

Dacc-Dacc shifts their position slightly and resettles their robes before continuing.  "I can guess at your 'work', based on your comment, but that is not why I have sought you out.  I'm looking for information.  Specifically, I'm looking for the whereabouts of someone I think you know.  My name is Dacc-Dacc, by the way."  They wait for the woman to respond, as they silently count the shins in their pocket.

In reply to Dacc-Dacc (msg # 989):

The cyphers in the area around you are of a varied sort. Everything from small objects that can fit in the palm of a human hand to larger ones carried in cases and across a beings back. Whuke most are of a basic geometric shape. You notice that one or two of the beings in the area are "cyphers" themselves. One being the Martian Synth-Man, the other a battle droid of some kind. It is sitting among some teenage youths talking loudly and laughing, while the youths pull on it's niches and frame.

As for the woman in front of you, she has one cypher of interest. It appears to be some form of D-storage packet. (D-storage is basically a "Bag of Holding" using D&D terms). It's a pocket dimension where unwieldy thinks can be placed. You also sense that the woman herself is some kind of created construct. Either gene-tech designed or she had her physical structure heavily modded. Her insides being able to produce several toxins.

"I'm Tessa," she says waving a wait bot over. "You look like you have been on the road a long time. Let's get you something to eat. This place caters to,....exotics such as we." Pausing to swallow she continues. "I know quite a few people. Who were you looking for?"

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Tessa.  I am looking for Otsgar.  I have heard he may be able to offer employment in an exploratory excursion, or at least know someone who does.  I am in search of work, and I feel my skills may be of use."

Dacc-Dacc takes a moment to order the most (non-damaging?) food and drink they can get for two shins, making no assumption that Tessa will pay for theirs.

"I've been checking in at his estate for some time with no luck.  I noticed you conversing with others by the entrance and guessed it was not a coincidence.  That has led us to our current conversation."

Tessa nods and looks at Dacc-Dacc,"Otsgar is a man that hires many on his expeditions and he is running late to this one. He should have been here over four days ago. Make no mistake his forays out into the wilds are dangerous but they pay well. It took him from a foreigner without a penny to his name to a successful merchant in the city. Perhaps someday soon even that of a merchant king."

The teens playing with the bot in the distance must have pulled something. The bot jerks up stiff, smoke pouring from every seam no matter how small it is,before it keels over, raising a puff of dust as it hits the ground.

"We were discussing whether to go out looking for them, or to wait a few more days. Waiting was the votes result. Do you have a place to stay?"

Dacc-Dacc shrugs.  "I've mananaged, if poorly.  But I am accustomed to roughing it, so it matters little."  They peer more closely at the fuming malfunctions, judging the likelihood of an imminent explosion.  They would prefer not to eat and run, or eat and flee, if possible.

"Can you provide me with a description of Otsgar or perhaps some of his common companions?  Perhaps I can keep watch by the route he is expected.  Or if you know of some simple work I could do until his return?  Dacc-Dacc has tired of their waiting for an opportunity.  Today, nearly any paying work would be a welcome reprieve from the boredom.

The bot shivers once , Jerking up to a full standing position, before crashing back down to ground, kicking up another gout of dirt and sand.
"Otsgar is a northerner and a large one at that. He is flamboyant and can be gaudy but he is no buffoon." You see her look at her comm device. "A scout along the city's parameter has spotted them and sent word to his,...associates." "If this is correct they should be here within the city in four hours."
"You are welcome to come wait with us. We could get you an audience with Otsgar."

"And well shall have it, my young friend!" says Modellii in a joyful tone. "A feast no doubt is in order! Once we have time to mend the wounds of our companions." "My coin will flow free and satiate the desires of every one within our troop!"
You look around and see that all the surviving members of the expedition have smiles on their faces . Or are speaking excitedly of the revelry once they get into the city walls. The only ones that seem glum are Zafriti and Otsgar their looks less then celebratory.

(Next scene we will set forward as they enter the gates of Abaddrah)

You see that the bot has attracted the attention of some of the city's constabulary much to the chagrin of some of the local toughs. What passes for emergency services appears a few moments later a douse the malfunctioning bot with foam. It thrashes once more then lies still a wayward blue spark or two every so often flying from him.
"Word of Otsgar's return has reached his inn and mansion as well. The group is meeting there on their way from their own locations as we speak. You may follow me."
With that she leaves a few of the local shins and makes her way to the main avenue
