The play is the thing

In reply to Dokahlis (msg # 27):

Ok the D10's are only for the adventure pool, Might,Speed, and Intellect not withstanding.

However you rolled a 6 on the D20 with one pt from might. Thats another hit! You do an additional 2 DMG. Do you wish to use the 1 XP point to perform the killing blow or would you rather, tough it out a risk a longer uncertain battle?

You , leap up onto the slithering beast. Driving the daggers deep into its leathery hide. I roars in pain and anger as it thrashes about trying to knock you off balance . You slide down its length, keeping the daggers buried deep inside of it. Its own struggles allowing your blades to cut it open from maw to tail. I breast splits! You leap aside as its innards erupt outward.

After the last of its life ooze out. Willamette steps forward . " It might have a fire jewel. There just behind its gizzard." She says moving towards the carcass.

(Do you let her take it?)

The play is the thing

In reply to Zu (msg # 28):

Yes. That was massive dmg! The exoskeleton around the head is severely damaged! Its skull has noticeable cracks in it.

It makes its own attack lifting two of its arms. It attacks,(lvl 3 diff #)in the form of a poison gas surrounding it out to five feet around it. The gas will continue to grow in radius each turn.

The grey man rushes forward brandishing his sword, making a swinging attack with the intent of splitting the creature in two. He got a 6 . He got a 12 on his defense save.
(The creature nimbly leaps away from the swing. Jumping to the right wall. It hangs there ready for its next attack). "Dont let it get away!" the grey man shouts, grabbing a pair of bolas from his belt. (Zu may take another attack at lvl 4 difficulty) (His defense # is a level 3 diff)

In reply to Tarkahnta Modelii Akata (msg # 30):

Okay. Here are my rolls:
  1. Speed Defense vs Attack (Diff 3): 17 success.
  2. Might Defense vs Poison (trained - Diff 2): 13 success.
  3. Speed Attack to-hit (Diff 4): 3 fail.

When the beast leaps to the wall, Zu runs straight up the other side of the alley and reverses into a spinning kick at it. The thing skitters to one side with lightning quickness, still holding on, then brings a strong arm down in its own attack. Zu plants his foot and raises his own arm to block the strike, and a mighty report hammers the air as shards of glittering force flash the brilliant, crystalline blue of his Ward where their arms make contact. But the agile monk barely notices the fireworks. He backflips away before his opponent can take another swing and lands in a crouch beneath it.
Some of the green mist surrounding the beast clings to the edges of his vest, though, sizzling a little and making little puffs of black smoke. Zu pats the nasty stuff off his clothes distractedly and grimaces, then wipes his hands on his shorts.
”Not another vest,” he complains morosely to no one in particular. ”I’m gonna have to go shopping again.”

Rolled a 13 for Atharryn’s throwing attack. I figure the monster is still at the very edge of her 10ish foot range, as long as she moves in a little. That’s 2 more points of damage.

Moving up beside him, the woman takes aim at the creature’s back legs where it’s clutching the vertical surface and lets loose with another volley of throwing stars. She manages to hit for effect this time, and the creature cries out in angry rage, but it’s not enough to detach the thing from its perch.

The grey man throws his sword at the creature. (He rolled an 8, another miss)
At this time Modelii appears He uses telekinesis (he rolled a 5),to retrieve the blade back to the grey man's grip.

The creature makes another attack. (level 3 diff #) This time it spits a stream of acid from its mouth. DMG if hit is a 6  Regardless of the attack success or failure it begins to scurry higher up the wall attempting to escape.

In reply to Tarkahnta Modelii Akata (msg # 32):

Rolls:
  1. Speed Defense (dodge): 11 success.
  2. Might Grapple (spending 3 Might for 1 Effort; Zu @ 7/10 Might): 20 success.

Zu is in motion before the others can even think. He executes a half-spin to avoid the creature's acid and runs five steps up the wall toward it.
The woman calls out in protest,
”I really don’t think you’ll—“ but then Zu launches himself off that wall in a flying flip to the opposite wall, across the alley, and races up it five more steps before repeating the lunging flip, this time right onto the thing’s back. The creature hisses and spits acid at him angrily as he grabs it around the neck and holds on with rugged determination.
"Where do you think you're going?" Zu growls in a menacing rumble.

Ok! (Great rolls btw).

You have the beast in your grip. You can either attack at a lvl 2 diff#
Or, you can go for a death blow/grapple at a lvl 4 diff#
You will also need to make a defense check at a lvl 3 as the creature, due to being wounded is now teetering and about to fall to the ground.

lol I know, right? Bad rolls at the beginning, but then they got better.
My rolls:

  1. Speed Defense @ Diff 3: 17 success.
  2. Speed Attack @ Diff 2: 11 success. (4 damage)

Zu holds on to the creature's neck with one arm while he brings his other elbow up over it and rams it down on the crown of its head hard. It flails its arms, trying to clutch at the man on its back, but it can't find any purchase on him. He gets ready to leap off the beast to break his fall against the opposing wall if it goes down.

Failed with a 6 against TN 12. Can't hit every time.

A keening cry splits the night as the beast's claws scrabble frantically against the wall to hang on to its grip. Zu pushes off its back to spring to the other wall, and the ant-man loses its hold and topples, still wailing, to the concrete below. With a quick twist of his foot and a roaring war cry, Zu launches himself downward knee first in a falling kick at the wounded beast.
It's still quite capable of moving quickly, though, despite all the damage, and the creature rolls out of the way before the blow can connect. Zu's knee smashes into the bare concrete with a small cascade of blue sparks, shattering the surface and leaving a shallow crater as a parting gift.

"Ow," Zu complains with a scowl. "That left a mark."

Zu takes 2 points of damage from the fall, leaving him at 5/10 Might.
Zu is spending 3 Speed Points on each roll for a point of Effort, leaving him at 6/12 Speed. My rolls are as follows:

  1. Speed Defense @ Diff 2: 17 success.
  2. Speed Attack @ Diff 2: 14 success. (4 damage)
  3. (Using his next action) Speed Attack @ Diff 3: 13 success. (4 more damage, or you can count it as a single attack and leave off the extra damage.)

Instead of dodging, the warrior steps forward and blocks-and-binds the thing's arm with his left hand, bringing his right elbow down in a crushing strike at his enemy's joint. An unhealthy crunch and a loud pop come from the injured joint, but Zu doesn't wait to see the extent of the damage--he spins around with his left elbow to smash the creature in its face. It's taken completely off-guard by his unexpected reversal, and the humanoid insect can't manage to dodge before Zu crushes its jaw.

You totally destroy the beast with that last hit. It dies. You need to make a speed defense roll at a lvl 3 to not get hit by its flailing limbs and its spewing of acid ichor

You notice that there is a funny looking tattoo or brand of some kind on the host's forehead. Make a intellect lvl 6 to gain some info on it.

"By, the four corners God's, Zu! That was impressive!" says Modelii coming up and patting Zu on the back then placing a beefy hand on his shoulder. " I have never seen such skill outside of the arena when I was but a slave fighting for my life."  " I wonder though what manner of beast is this?" "I have never seen nor heard of such beast. Be it outside of fearful stories mothers tell their children."

The grey man walks towards Zu and Modelii a look of saying something on his lips. He turns and looks at the lithe woman as if asking permission before speaking.

You hold the gem briefly in your hands, as the hurried footsteps of Willamette sound on the deck behind you. You pull the gem out of the tough gizzard flesh with your bare hands. Your vampiric claws slicing through the tough flesh with ease. You hold the gem in hands, looking intently at it. You see fire like patterns in the gem and uncomfortable heat coming off it. There are swirling shapes of fire and storm swirling within it.

Surely a magical stone!

Roll a lvl 4 (12 diff or higher) to determine the truth about the gem. This will be an intellect roll

Since your centuries old I will reduce the diff to a 9 or higher. You rolled a 6 still not enough but you do know its a special gem and not just a bauble. Do you hand it over to Willamette? Or do you keep the gem for yourself?

The gem is valuable at least worth 200 shins on the open market, more if you haggle the price.

Speed Defense Roll @ Diff 3: 19 success.
Recovery Roll 1d6+2 @ 1 Action: 3 Might. Zu @ 8/10.

I'm spending Intellect Pool points (3 points - 1 Edge) for Effort to reduce the difficulty of the knowledge check. Zu @ 8/12 Intellect.
Intellect Roll (knowledge) @ Diff 5: 18 success.

Zu's elbow has barely left the wreckage of the thing's face when he dives forward into a roll, narrowly escaping the acidic bile the thing spews all around in its death throes. He starts forward confidently, looking like a champion walking off the field of battle, but the image is ruined when he doubles over in a wracking cough. It takes him a minute to stand back up straight, and when he does he's favoring one side.
"Whew. That was a good workout."
Modelli comes up to congratulate him. Zu shrugs and looks down and mumbles something unintelligible, clearly embarrassed by the praise, but he stiffens suddenly and kneels to examine the dead body of the unfortunate host. There's a mark on the man's forehead. Zu knows he's seen that mark before...

Rolled a Speed Attack of 5 to grab the horned man by his collar.

Zu mutters in a low voice, ”I know this mark. This tattoo is an implantation cypher for incubating a monster inside its victim. It’s like the homicidal cousin of a Biomorph cypher.”
He leaps to his feet and dashes straight at the horned man, who’s been watching him closely since he started examining the body. The other man is ready for him, and he sidesteps the monk’s grasping attack. The two circle each other warily in the alley as Modelli and the woman take ready stances on either side of them.
”Convergence scum,” Zu spits with obvious disgust. ”Make a move for a cypher and I’ll kill you where you stand.”
The horned man adjusts his grip on his sword, hesitating, but the woman steps forward with an outstretched arm.
”We don’t work for the Convergence,” she protests in a quiet, even voice, and she checks over her shoulder after she speaks to make sure no one else might be listening. ”In fact, we’re working against them.”
Zu can’t hold back a confused glance at the woman, but he continues to watch the man carefully.
”Watch her, Modelli,” he calls to his friend. ”No matter what she says, she’s got the look of a Convergence magistrix. They’re devils. That monster was their creation, and there’s no telling what kind of other nasty cyphers she’s got on her.”

The grey man grips his sword tightly the electric blue still playing across its blade. He circles around Zu. His fighting stance , one arm outstretched pointed at Zu, The blade held high over his own head one handed. Its edge pointed at Zu. " Blast,  Atharryn! The outlander threatens or goals. Let free my blade and let us be done."

"That wouldn't be a good idea." Says Modelii. From the side still facing the woman. " Besides we helped you with that nasty there." he says nodding to the now lifeless beast. " Just dont do anything that will complicate the matter. You have your path in the city, yes? As do we. May we try and not wind up like him." says Modelli nodding again to the ant like creature.
(Modelli is going to roll, adding his persuasion skill and 2 adventure pts on a diff lvl  of 6 taken down to a 12 target #)
He rolled a 17
(Minor effect added, the grey man lowers his sword)
"I have no desire to kill either of you. Blood spilt now would be fool and gain either nothing." he nods grimly and lowers his weapon.
"Well, now that all are calm." "Perhaps you can still help us in finding the Omar?" "I have a means to pay for your troubles." he tells the woman and the grey man, opening a belt pouch and discreetly flashing a handful of large denomination shins. "However  must ask that we leave the streets, at least this one." says Modelii. Nodding to the far end of the alley where the silhouettes of two 8 foot sentry bots can be seen making their way to the group.

His stormy eyes never stray too far from the horned man, though, and they often creep down to regard his sword.

Atharryn regards the sentry bots with equal measures of contempt and concern, but she nods once, sharply, to Modelli and heads to the opposite end of the open alley. Her ally falls in line behind her.
Zu tries to be inconspicuous as he walks up alongside the taller woman. He turns to her with a poorly concealed intensity in his gaze.

"Iadace."
She turns to him with a hint of a smile playing at the edges of her mouth. She looks as if she's about to say something, but then she stops herself, sighs, and shrugs.
"I understand you," she replies simply.
Zu seems visibly relieved by her answer, but he remains guarded.  He returns to Modelli's side.
Atharryn turns to Modelli as they walk.
"I do know the Omar, although we haven't been to see him on this trip. I'd be happy to direct you in exchange for your timely assistance on the previous matter. That was an unfortunate turn of events that could have caused us a lot of problems." She turns to include Zu in her gaze, and favors him with a winning smile. He blinks at her, dazzled a little by her charm. "Particularly if it had gotten loose."

" Hopefully however we can avoid what passes for the law around here, I don't think my infraction of owning black lotus within the walls of the city have been expunged." "if we can do that, I'm in."

"what do you say Zu? Ready for a bit of a detour?"
