So as far as our starting ages, that is in 1893? And so when the game jumps forward to 1923, we'll be thirty years older (in my case, 70 years old)? I'm trying to locate myself in time a little and map out some idea of my backstory a bit in relation to events of the era...

Yep - this game starts in early 1893 and should conclude, in game time, comfortably by the end of that year.

When it jumps forward it won't be required for you to play the same character though you would be more than welcome to do so (providing they survive - nobody has plot armour here). However, my intention would be that any 'new' characters would have some connection to these characters though there would be pretty much free reign on what that connection is.

Connection to our own character here or to any of these characters?

I would say any of the characters.

Depending on what happens to these characters it may be unrealistic to expect all of them to have a spouse, child, protégée etc. if they die a gruesome death or are sent irredeemably mad. Especially with the younger characters who may not already have got such attachments.

Salutations gentlemen and lady. I shall shortly be losing my mind because shoggoths don't care about bullets, so let's chat about something other than the spiders in my veins while we still can.

Hey, for the record, was the service in Afghanistan mentioned in your bio the Second Anglo-Afghan War between 1878 and 1881?

Hey :) I've been resisting responding yet, as:

1) wanted to give everybody a chance to place themselves;
2) also difficult to work out timeframe, as far as from when I knock on the door (which it appears I have done alone before I know anyone else has arrived...) and when Smith may respond, if he's there and alive LOL... It is really nice though to read about Jeane and Amelia interacting :)

In terms of the timeframe for Smith opening the door he will, conveniently, only get to the door after everyone has arrived and had an opportunity to introduce themselves - or at least there has been a reasonable time for them to arrive which is probably by the weekend in real life terms.

Sorry for the delay.

I'm not ignoring you Dr Saroch, just struggling to find time to sit down and write this week. It has been busy. But I expect to have a chance tomorrow or Tuesday.

Sorry again.

Is Hobbes a physician? Do we see a medical bag in the room?

If he's a physician, Saroch will consult with him. If he's just an academic (with no right to the title 'Doctor'), he will examine the man on the bed.

So far as you can tell he's a physician but he's not one you're familiar with.

@Amelia

Just wondering if you would like to question Mr Grim, or if it seems good for me to... I would have posted this question IC. But in a way I already have, as Professor Worth did mention while asking Smith about the woman something about maybe Amelia being better possibly than himself... Either way, I'm fine with. Just don't want to steal the whole show :)

As it seems we've lost a couple of players I'm going to advertise for some replacements - the new characters can then join at a later point (probably the next in-game morning) to lend their assistance.

Agreed.  This feels like 80’s-era John Carpenter doing Lovecraft.

Re: OOC
I've been wondering what people would prefer to do with clues that arise. It just occurs that with PbP games, especially ones at a more leisurely pace, there is a risk that people forget even quite significant clues and pieces of information that come up as time goes by.

Three options spring to mind:

1) I do absolutely nothing and you guys just remember (or drop in the scratchpad etc) the bits of information you feel are relevant.

2) I set up a thread for clues and then I put in anything which comes up which could be a clue or important piece of information, with some red herrings mixed in just for good measure!

3) I set up a thread for clues and then you let me know (whether that be in posts, here in the OOC or in PMs) if you want something to be added in and then I chuck that in there at request.

I have no strong preference. Alternatively if anyone has any other good ideas as to how to manage it then I'm all ears!

Re: OOC
You could create an open "Clues Thread" which you can add to as things come, like images of things, letters, whatever, but it also allows us to post to it...

Re: OOC
I'd prefer option 2 or 3.

If everyone can post to the thread, it's liable to get crowded and not be a great improvement over searching through story threads for information.
