Monster Hunter Setting

So if we're going with a total alternate universe, how different are we thinking about going? Totally write up our own company npc's and whatnot? Or just have history diverge at the point our game starts because of the players actions?

I'm good with either one, we can keep the same basic PUFF structure & MCB attitude, but build up our own company in place of MHI (I thought we'd call it Monster Hunter Unlimited and base it out of a more Central location in the US). Or we just ignore the characters in the books and the events that they talk about and press on with a different future, otherwise the players that have read the books may ultimately feel like nothing they're doing actually effects the world.

What are your thoughts on this? After writing it out I'm actually leaning toward creating a different company that will exist in MHI's stead as the premiere US Hunter company.

Either way works. The pros/cons of each are, with making a totally different company, we have to make everything up, whereas that could give us as much artistic license as we want. And converse for keeping the current world with divergent timeline, everything is basically built for us already but not as much flexibility.

Are you taking any time off this week? We should get together and write.

I think I'd rather put in the work writing and have all the flexibility to write whatever I want, than to feel semi or mostly constrained too the guide rails of the books future and past.

Our setting can be more of, what if the MHI went out of business when Ray the Second (Earl) got turned and wasn't able to control himself or was killed before he learned how. Another company would rise up in its place over the course of the next 50+ years to where the campaign starts. Probably founded by a member of MHI after MHI went out of business with no Shacklefords to lead it. So our history diverge in the thirties but the impact overall isn't extremely significant because there are always hunters and heros to fight the forces of evil.
