Down into the Dungeon

He was hurting, but he was still alive!

With Augie taking a hit that might have been meant for him, Zinashi had time now to reload his crossbow. He moves to the side a bit so that he might have a slightly better angle at hitting the bugbear... and fires!

15:14, Today: Zinashi Draegal rolled 13,3 using 1d20+4,1d6 ((9,3)). Close again, but no cigar! Unless he gets a +1 bonus for flanking...

"Take THAT, you fugly bugbear!" he snarls at the bugbear but doesn't quite make it a shout.

"Oh, crap. Another miss." He casts a glance around the hallway as if wondering if it's somehow causing all these misses. The friggin' bugbears weren't even wearing any armor, for Pete's sake!

Both Zinashi and Lowrra miss, but Brankx just barely manages to hit Bugbear #6 again, which is just enough to kill it.

As he falls, however, it lets the bugbear behind him take a swing at Brankx, even as the other two bugbears attack Gora and Lowrra respectively.

10:29, Today: GM StarMaster rolled 12,10,13 using 1d20+8,1d20+8,1d20+8 ((4,2,5)). Wow. More poor rolls.

Bugbear #5 just didn't quite have the reach, even with its great club, to hit Brankx, but might have been able to do so if he'd just used one hand... though it would have done less damage.

Bugbear #3 again misses Lowrra... seemingly confused by her spinning and kicking.

Bugbear #2, having turned back away from Zinashi and Augie to deal with Gora, misses, too. Probably distracted by having three foes to deal with, though clearly deciding Gora was the greater threat.

Oops. Slipped away...

As soon as the bugbear turned its back on Zinashi, he saw his opportunity. Not that he was a backstabbing thief, but he didn't see anything wrong with taking advantage of a golden opportunity. He pulled out the flask that was tucked into his belt, popped the cap with his thumb, and then took a swig.

As his hand tucked the flask back into his belt, he suddenly spit forth a blast of fire from his mouth!

13:29, Today: Zinashi Draegal rolled 14,6 using 1d20+3,1d6 ((11,6)). Wow! How the dice have turned, hey, Gora?

Should be a hit for max damage!

Gora's attack on Bugbear #2, followed by Zinashi's flaming breath, is enough to kill it.

That leaves Bugbear #5 as it steps forward to attack Brankx.

09:13, Today: GM StarMaster rolled 18 using 1d20+8 ((10)). Bugbear attack on Brankx.

That's a hit.

09:16, Today: GM StarMaster rolled 6 using 1d10+4 ((2)).

It's not as solid a hit as it could have been, probably because he's a bit off-balance, and maybe a little bit concerned that he's now seen two of his pals drop.

And Bugbear #3 who's still dancing with Lowrra. He continues to attack, though still confused by her strange (to him) actions.

"Stand still and let me hit you!" he snarls out in Common.

09:20, Today: GM StarMaster rolled 23 using 1d20+4 ((19)). Bugbear attack on Lowrra.

That's another hit.

09:22, Today: GM StarMaster rolled 5 using 1d10+4 ((1)). Damage on Lowrra.

That was pitiful.

Lowrra was indeed doing badly.
The bugbears attack only grazed her, but the power behind it was still enough to nearly knock her off her feet,  especially since she was already wounded slightly.
Desperately, she chanted an incantation she'd learned in her Druidic monastic Order, to try to induce self healing.  Unfortunately,  her own concentration was off, and her efforts weren't very effective

OOC: I had to give the board a rest because the Dice Roller didn't like me. Seems to have worked!

Once more, Augie decided to risk getting involved in a battle he was woefully ill-equipped to handle. Staying at range, he cast Acid Splash at one of the remaining bugbears.

17:05, Today: Augustus Cawliga rolled 20,3 using 1d20+2,1d3 ((18,3)).

That should be a hit for the maximum damage his 0-level spell can do!

He was starting to wonder, though, why their battle didn't seem to draw any attention. Admittedly, these were stone walls, and just maybe no one else was around at the moment.

He was even worse in combat that Augie was, so he decide to use his crossbow again. He aimed at the same bugbear Augie had targeted.

17:17, Today: Zinashi Draegal rolled 12,1 using 1d20+4,1d6 ((8,1)).

Really? The Dice Roller does one good roll per day?

He must have aimed high without realizing it as the crossbow bolt *thwacked* off the wall of the hall way and disappeared farther down the hall. At least he didn't hit one of his allies!

He almost threw the crossbow down in disgust--or at the bugbear!--but realized it wasn't the crossbow's fault. Still, it would have felt good!

With only one bugbear still standing and putting up a fight, Augie hits it, Zinashi misses it,  then Gora hits it, and finally Lowrra finally manages to hit it, finishing it off.

As the bugbear slumps to the floor, an eerie silence descends on the scene that you quickly realize is because there's still no response to the battle from anywhere else in the immediate area.

Augie finds the sudden silence a bit spooky! He glances around nervously, prepared to use his quarterstaff to whack anyone or anything that jumps out at him.

"I think we should drag these bugbear bodies back into the barracks room where they came from," he suggests.

"Maybe they'll think they're just sleeping if we put them in their beds."

Something was going on here that they didn't understand, that was for sure.

Other than the weapons they were carrying, they have no normal possessions on them since they aren't wearing any armor nor any belts with pouches. However, one was wearing a silver amulet with arcane symbols and the one that had gone to the kitchen has a jade ring on one finger.

As you drag them back to the barracks, you do find their armor still laying on the floor at the foot of the beds, along with a shield. There are also 6 javelins at each bed, plus a backpack and a belt with two pouches. Four of the belts also have daggers on them.

In one pouch you find coins, for a total of 75 silver pieces from all six pouches, and in the other pouches are what might generously be called jerky, but probably only something a bugbear would find appealing.

Besides the beds, there's a straw target hanging on the back wall with 3 javelins sticking in it.

After the bodies are all hauled off to the barracks room and 'tucked in', Augie goes back down the hall and casts Prestidigitation to clean up all the blood and gore.

"I didn't see any other exits out of the kitchen," he tells the others, "so that means we go back the way we came and take that other passage. Right?"

"Anyway, I don't have use for these bugbear weapons and armor. Any of you want any of it?"

"Otherwise, just divvy up the coins."

"I didn't see any exits either," Zinashi agrees, "but then I was kind of otherwise engaged."

"So, what do the rest of you want to do? Go look for an exit or just go back to that other passage?"

"Since our little fight doesn't seem to have alerted anyone else, I'm guessing there isn't anyone down near the kitchen, so probably no other exit.... though I find that a bit odd. As I understand it, you should always dig a second way out in case there's a cave-in. Isn't that right, Brankx?"
