Re: Portrait Submission

Just a thank you to ALL those that are actual Admin, Moderators, portrait people for all the hard work you do.

To everyone, just choose a pic that you want submitted, by the rules, any size and put your rpol name and where you would like to see the portrait, i.e. Male casual as it says in the submission rules.  But sometimes you need to look through all categories as they don't always go where you thought it should.

There really is no need for a middle man to do anything to the pictures you email in.  That is what the astounding Portrait team do, they know exactly what to do and have been doing it expertly for years.

Hats off and applause to all of them for doing their designated part so we can all enjoy our gaming experience.

If you are looking for a 'look' for your character I would suggest that you look through all the categories to see if the right picture for you is already there before submitting a new portrait.  These guys work hard at what they do and you will find there are sometimes duplicate pics but in different categories.

Re: Portrait Submission

I suppose repeating the submission guidelines at length is sort of on-topic, but I do feel obliged to point out both that that part was merely concern for another user whose portrait had seemingly repeatedly gone missing despite following all guidelines previously repeated above, and that my actual question, concerning my ready-formatted, always non-previously-available portraits, remains unanswered.

I would appreciate it if non-mods would not push it upthread further (especially seeing as that was how my last query was derailed and lost), please.

Re: Portrait Submission

In reply to tibiotarsus (msg # 429):

Unfortunately, I can't tell you what happens to those submissions that I'm certain are sent out, but which we simply don't receive. Something in the email forwarding, maybe, is all I can think of. As described earlier in this thread, I've personally kept a watchful eye out for certain submissions that have just never materialized either in the inbox or the spam folders. The data we have to go by shows that's very rare, but apparently it does happen. I can see your latest submission, for instance, and confirm both that it's there and that I have absolutely gotten others from you, before, which I have passed along for upload, but we've never successfully gotten one from the other user you specifically mentioned.

As for tags, I understand the interest, but I can't really give you a firm answer, myself, since I don't handle that part. I think that tags have been mostly abandoned at this point because only a vanishing minority of people actually searched the galleries using that method, but I won't put words in anyone else's mouth, so don't hold me to that. There may have been some discussion of that somewhere back in this thread.

That's very disappointing to hear if true, since the reason no-one was using the tag search was that there weren't enough portraits tagged to make the search function work any better than trawling gallery by gallery...I hope that is not the case, but thank you for the informed speculation. Apologies again to those waiting on portraits for pinging the thread, but since it's a new month, perhaps someone who knows more might be less busy by now and be reminded, so.

Re: Portrait Submission

Do we know what part of the month this usually gets completed?

Not chasing the team for this cycle, just wondering when the group thinks I should start looking?

Re: Portrait Submission

In reply to Frozen Fajita (msg # 433):

Things remain on hold for the moment, unfortunately, because Warrax is waiting on jase to address a part of the process. Under normal circumstances, submissions are accepted up to the 14th of the month, and portraits submitted during that period are posted before the end of the same month. E.g., submissions from April 15th through May 14th would appear in the gallery no later than May 31st.

We're still accepting submissions, so hopefully when jase has time to do what needs done, there will be a big group upload of the current backlog. On the one hand, that means I'm not sure when the next batch of submissions will be uploaded; on the other, it also means everyone has time to double-check and make certain any entries you're waiting on meet the criteria. I did have to reject a few for not including their RPoL username in this most recent round, so if you submitted recently, please glance over your email and follow up to append your username, if you didn't, so that we can get your avatars in for the next cycle (which will presumably still be included in a mass upload).

Thanks! I did include my username, although I didn't think to include which section I wanted it in.

I don't mind where it gets sorted to.

This is the sort of thing that is useful if you guys updated the user base on so we know to 'temper expectations'.

Re: Portrait Submission

To my knowledge, no one is currently tagging portraits and there is no currently active plans to restart the process.  Jase is the only one who can answer the question about when updates will restart, though I suspect that there will just be an announcement by the portrait editors once he's had a chance to sort it out.

Everything through April has been sent. There's a new wrinkle in how the upload process works since the server move, but we hope to have everything through April accessible in rather short order. We are, as ever, still accepting submissions.  Updates are still going to be a little fickle for the time being, but they will continue.

We aren't planning on carrying on with tagging at this time. I think we're waiting for a bit more stability before re-tabling that discussion.

Adding my voice to the request for updates, since the game that portraitless PC was in is waking up and I really need her! Any idea when things will be fixed? No idea? Either way it would genuinely be good to know.

So, we in theory should be up to date. I'm a little busy this afternoon, but I'll be having a go at one part of things this evening to see if there was any problem. I know the uploads got done, and we're continuing in our process, so I'll troubleshoot and get back to everyone once I know what's going on. I'd look at this the other day and confirmed that all the files got uploaded, though, so at least that's good to go.

Cheers, and thanks for your patience!

EDIT: I should add, we'll have to ask for a little more patience than in previous years because post-server move, we don't have as much control over things as we used to. So hopefully this is an easy fix and I'll be able to sort it out this evening, but if not, it'll be a bit while we do the dance.

As for the PC, though, there's no sign of my lass in 17th, 18th, 19th, Buisness, Rugged, Gangster or Casual.

One of the older Cree ladies is in Male 17th which I clicked by mistake, though...maybe she's ended up somewhere over there or in Neutral, I shall check presently.

...nope. No sign of the grandma submitted before her, either, though - perhaps they got flagged as spam? They were the right size with my username and suggested gallery and everything.

rMail me a link to the image and I'll have a look. I can browse the gallery of submitted stuff on my hard drive faster than the stuff in the actual RPOL gallery.
