Sara had just gotten to the door because she had heard someone knock it. But then, as she opened it, she didn't see anyone there.

It was the middle of the day on Saturday afternoon. There was an autumn chill in the air. And a few leaves rustled their way in from the front door outside as Sara stood there.

Sara put on her best frown and peered outside.

Sara looked outside. There was a kid that Sara recognized but not from this neighborhood standing in front of her.




"Are you Sara?" He asked pronouncing her name Sah-RAAAH

"Nope," Sara replied, staring at the kid. Where did she know him from?

He was one of those kids from Rodeo drive across from Main Street, that's where Sara recognized him from. Just as she thought this, the kid stuck his tongue out at Sara.




"Yes you are, yes you are! You're herrr! hahahahaha" He laughed pointing his finger at Sara and sticking out his tongue at her in a mocking gesture. Then he ran towards his bike, Sara could see, which was parked at the curb just in front of Sara's house.

Sara furrowed her brow. "No I'm not!" She looked around for something she could throw.

Sara saw that there was a rock on the ground in front, just next to the side door.

Sara launched the object at the running it. It sailed passed his head, just missing. The kid turned around.




"Missed me! Missed Me! Stupid, farty-duty-poo-poo head! Haha!" He mocked at Sara

"Shut up!" Sara ran after him.

Sara ran quickly from the door. In a flash she had caught up to the kid.




"Hahahahaha!" The kid laughed. Though when he turned around his eyes were wide and surprised that she had caught up so quick.

Sara attempted to tackle him before he could reach the bike. "Keep laughing!"

Sara lunched at the kid and collided into his back. He fell forward, mouth open wide with surprise as the earth came up before him, the two slamming hard onto the ground.




"Urgffffffff!!!!!...." The kid groaned. And then "Wh...What are you doing!?" He protested, Sara and him now rolling down a slight hill in front of a neighbor's yard, the crunch of autumn leaves on the ground as moved.

"Agguuuhhh!" The kid groaned as they tossed about. All laughter was gone from his voice now.

Sara didn't expect that, but she didn't mind it either. It was her turn to laugh. "Hahaha... come on! I told you to keep laughing!"

They rolled around on the ground until they came to a tangled stop, Sara was now on top of the kid.




"wh...what'ya want!?" The kid cried out. He wasn't laughing now. He was just staring up at Sara with a scared confused look. Somewhere in the tumble, he lost his hat and blond shaggy hair was now matted with the leaves they had been rolling in.

"...Laugh," she said.

The kid looked up at Sara with a grimace




"Ha?" The kid offered, the sound coming out one part confused, one part scared.

"More!" Sara demanded, smiling dementedly.

The kid looked up at Sara now with a frightened expression




"Ha!Ha Ha! Ha!" The kid performed

"Gooood," she let go of him and stood up. She wondered briefly if this was what... the lady felt like, when dealing with people.

The kid got up and dusted off his pants. He looked at Sara for a while as if he was relishing the return to normalcy and not being pinned on the ground.




"Do you want to go break some stuff?" The kid asked Sara just like that. Just like kids do, even after a fight or whatever that was that just happened. Just like he was offering Sara some candy and that everything that just happened was water under the bridge and now they could start to play and move onto the fun stuff.

"I mean, everyone on this block is sort of square." The kid said, meaning that the kids were dull and that they didn't do anything fun. "There's this abandoned house. I was thinking of throwing some rocks through the old windows. Just to, you know, hear how the glass sounds when it breaks. You're not supposed to do it. But that's why its fun." He justified.

"...Sure." Now that she thought of it, it wasn't like she had anything better to do.

"I'm Jimmy" The kid said. And he started walking, straightening his hat and looking back at Sara.

"You live on Main Street, don't you?"

Sara looked at him, nonplussed, then tapped her temple. "Duh, you were just there."

"What'ya want me to say?" Jimmy said in response.

"You Probably knocked something loose?" He said, tapping his head.

"Listen, we gotta get some rocks if we're gonna break some windows." He looked around and picked one up. "Ones like this. Round and not too heavy."

Sara began to look for rocks as well. "So, you're sure it's abandoned?"

"Oh yeah." Jimmy said and he gave Sara a toothy grin that seemed to indicate 'throw a rock at that window. It will be fun.'

"Boring..." she muttered reflexively, then shrugged. "I mean, I guess it's fun. It's just not as fun if there's no one to see it."

"You're boring!" Jimmy said to Sara. It was a petulant sort of come back, but he followed it up by throwing the rock he was holding at the window.

CRASH!!!

There was the sound of glass shattering as it caved inward, shards splintering everywhere.

Sara followed the rock with her eyes, then quickly hid her smile. Then she took another rock and threw it at another window.

'Crash!'

The next rock Sara threw caved in the entire window, glass falling in shards.



"heheheh!" Jimmy snickered. He bent down and picked up two more rocks.

"Let's throw two at a time! I bet it will make a big noise!" He said feverishly. There was a delight in his eyes, like he was warming to the idea and getting lost in the ruckus they were causing.

"Okay!" Despite herself, Sara was getting warmed up too. She picked up two more rocks out of the ones she'd noticed earlier, stuck out her tongue as she aimed, then threw them at another window.

This time there was a big crash, one rock flying through the window, the other hitting the shudder in a loud, smashing noise

Jimmy was lost in the moment. He picked up a rock and threw it hard at the house.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" Jimmy laughed. He was wild with the passion on throwing rocks and taken with the idea of destruction.

Sara looked for an unbroken window to claim as her own with the next throw. She giggled as glass shattered.

The window shattered further, collapsing into a pile of glass and leaving a gaping hole enough for rain to go through.



Jimmy was excited. He stood up from the place they had been throwing rocks.

"Come on! Let's go inside" Without waiting for Sara, he took off running towards the house.

Sara ran after him, feeling annoyed again. "What's inside?!" she shouted.

Sara stopped at the jagged window, the shards poking out in dangerous directions. Jimmy had already made it somehow inside the house. She could hear his voice from inside.



"Oh man...."Jimmy's voice echoed from within the dark, depths of the abandon house. "You gotta see this..." He said with a trouble voice that echoed within the home's interior.

"Huh? What?" Sara picked up the pace, going in after him, but keeping an eye out as she did so.

Sara's feet crunched on the glass beneath her feet as she made her way into the house. Here eye's were just adjusting to the total lack of light inside. Just a moment ago she heard Jimmy's voice. For a minute or two she could make out nothing at all but dark lumps of furniture, the mass of the chest of drawers by the wall, and the white patch where a rug was at the bottom of the floor.

Then Sara heard something scuffling...

Sara froze, looked around, and listened in.

Sara squinted through the darkness. It was hard to see. Whatever it was was shuffling towards her. It came into the light, boxy frame of someone or something lumbering forward.

It was.....

A robot.

Sara gaped for a moment, then stepped back and squinted again. How big was it?

Sara squinted. It looked like a robot....but it didn't sound like one. Instead it sounded like some kid shuffling about in the darkness.




Then she saw. It was a kid. Wearing a cheap, self-made Halloween costume.

Could Jimmy have put that on in the time that passed?

Jimmy appeared next to Sara, so it could be him



"Hey, what's taking you so l...."Jimmy's voice stopped short"What the heck! hehehehehe.. What a loser costume!" He said, clearly not afraid at all once he realized that that was all it was

"Is that a friend of yours?" Sara questioned Jimmy.

Jimmy looked at the kid in the Robot Halloween costume.Then he looked back at Sara. The kid dressed as a robot still didn’t move or say anything.



"I thought he was your friend Sara"Jimmy said"What the heck! Is this some kind of joke Sara?" He said, clearly Now getting annoyed.

"I should be asking you that!" Sara fired back, then turned to the "robot". "Okay, who are you?"

The kid took off his Robot helmet to reveal wild hair that sprouted in every direction.

"Leonard." Leonard said. "What are you guys doing in this spooky house? I'm here because I heard a smashing sound and I wanted to see if my costume would be scary enough to scare the ghosts or whatever was making the sound. I got in through the front door."

Ghosts? ...Oh. "Like you'd see ghosts through that," Sara promptly strikes up a dismissive tone.

"Ha! Right! You couldn't even see your feet if you looked down!" Jimmy said, piling on.

"Well.." the kid said, cradling the large, cardboard, robot helmet in the nook of his arm. "I probably can't see a lot. But it sounded like an emergency. And on this block, ya know, with everyone dissappearing, I thought that it might have something to do with the things I've been drawing lately."

"I've drawn some pictures lately from dreams I've had. And I think some of them might have something to do with whats happening. Or what's happened. I've seen some strange things!" Leonard announced, voice slightly cracking at that last sentence.

"Oh yeah?" Sara gave him a skeptical look. "Like what?"

In reply to Sara (msg # 59):

“ i’ve got a notepad out front. It’s got a whole bunch of different kinds of drawings I need. I usually just draw things that I see in my dreams. Lately it’s been some really strange stuff. You can take a look at it. You’re like, and older kids so maybe you know what stuff is about.“

"Of course I do," Sara replied, trying not to seem too intrigued. Maybe she did know?

"mmm.kay.." The kid said. "Follow me. Oh, and try not to make too much noise. I dont' know what's in this creepy house."

"Lead the way!" Jimmy said, and he started to follow the kid in to the darkness of the house.

Sara followed Jimmy, frowning in silence and darkness.

Sara followed Jimmy, and Jimmy followed Leonard. And soon, all three kids were now outside of the house. “Well I got a bunch of these drawings in this binder.“ Leonard said. He picked up a plastic binder and as he did pages fell out from both sides onto the grass. “I make them from different dreams that I have. If I have a dream or a nightmare and the first thing I do is I get up and I grab the binder and I try to draw what I remember. Oh wait. That’s not the first thing that I do. First thing I do is go to the bathroom. I don’t like the feeling of having to pee when I draw

Is he still wearing the robot costume?

Sara glances tentatively at the scattered pages.

“Here, take a look” Leonard offered.

The pages were scattered, old and they had a crisp to them as Sara felt them in her hands. The pictures were sketches, mostly of clowns that were evil looking.

“Does this mean anything to you?”

Sara didn't reply immediately, studying the pictures intently. Clowns... Mark mentioned a circus. And a clown. Do those clowns look like the same clown?

Sara looked over the images:

The clowns were drawn in a stick figure format. Their eyes were in large and they had frowns on their faces as if they were about to commit some kind of mischievous act. After thinking for a bit, it was clear that these clowns were indeed the same exact clowns that Mark had mentioned or at least they fit the description.

"...Cherrywinks," Sara muttered after a pause, then looked to see if that got a reaction out of robot boy.

"Yes..." Leonard said. He was taking off the costume now, a look of total shock on his face.

"Cherry..winks" He repeated, voice distant. "In the dream a clown came to me and said those words. I think it was his name."

"Do you know anything about that? Anything about 'Cherry-winks?" Leonard asked

Sara could tell him a bunch of things, of course, but she feels a momentary reluctance to share. They're all muscling in on her secrets. "Well, do you?" she turns to ask Jimmy. It's only fair if she wants to know what he knows first, right?

The kid looked away as if he was embarrassed not scared.

“Yeah well I usually don’t talk about my drawings because Mommy said I shouldn’t. The school guidance counselor says that I’m not allowed to draw my dreams because they aren’t app...app... ‘appropriate.’ That means they make the other kids sad. But yeah I can tell you if you want. But you have to promise not to make fun of me and not to be a tattle tail and tell on me.”

The girl turns back to Leonard. "I won't tell on you," Sara promises, after a few more seconds of vacillation. No promises about not making fun though. "I... know something about it too," she makes a further reluctant admission. "It's the clown from the monster circus, right?"

Leonard looked up, doe-eyed at Sara. "How...how did you know?"

"...You know Mark?" Sara asked, squinting at Leonard as if she thought he might try to hide it.

"Who's mark?" Leonard asked. "I don't know any Mark. I just try to draw what I see in my dreams. Why? is the Clown's name Mark? I don't know any Clown I've ever heard named Mark." Leonard said.

"Hmmm...maybe my dream wasn't like, so important then?"

"He's just some kid. He knows this stuff too," Sara admitted reluctantly. "He's the one who saw me. I didn't see clowns, but I saw other stuff."

"What do you think of this?" Leonard asked, placing a piece of paper in front of Sara. It was another Clown drawing, but with faded pencil marks.




"Does this look like something this kid Mark might have saw?"

"That's just a clown... Doesn't look like a monster clown or anything." Nevertheless, Sara squinted to see if she may be missing something.

"But is it something Mark saw?" Leonard pressed.

"I guess?" Sara shrugged, after a pause in which she tried to remember what he actually said about Cherrywinks. "He said the clown was chasing his friends around in a snowstorm."

"What about this?" Leonard asked, shoving another piece of paper in front of Sara. "I showed this to Shawn. Do you know Shawn? He's a really cool kid that lives on Main Street. I think he's a new friend of mine."

"And what'd he say?" Sara asked, not answering his question. She squinted at the writing, moving her lips as she read it to herself.

"He said they were really cool. And he wanted to know about my dreams and drawings and what they meant. So I told him that they meant that there's an adult in the neighborhood that really isn't an adult, but is secretly and evil clown. Kind of like the one's in these drawings. But don't tell anyone that, because if you do then I'll get in trouble with Mommy. She said I cant' speak about this to anyone or make any dream drawings anymore. But I know its true that one of the neighbors on Rodeo Drive or on Main Street is really an evil clown. I think Shawn was like, interested in finding out who it was."

"...So which one was it?" Sara frowned.

“What? What do you mean?” Leonard asked

"Do you know which adult it is?" Sara clarified. "Or do you at least suspect someone...?"

"Oh. Oh no, its nothing like that. All I did was kind of like draw it. I hadn't really thought about who it might be. I guess most of my time was just kind of like, trying to get the drawing right. Just, and...Oh yeah and trying to hide my drawings."

"See Mommy...well...she doesn't like it. She thinks that I'm going to cause trouble because I told Mrs. Barlow that the drawings were real. Because they are! It's like Bwahhh! They're real. I know that's what I dreamed of and I know its what it happened because I drew it right when I got up."

"So its like when you get up and then you draw, is better than if you wait. Because if you wait then the memories of a dream go away and then you can't remember what happened. That's how I know its real. Because I did that the first few times and I didn't remember anything cause I tried to draw it a few hours later."

"Who do you think it could be?"

"I'm new here," Sara shrugged, going through her mental library of local adults. Who was that lady... with the pants...? Stalling for time, she turned to Jimmy again. "Do you know who might be an evil clown?"

“Absolutely! I had a dream and I wrote it down in a drawing. It’s one of the adults in either rodeo drive or main street.” Leonard said there was no sarcasm in his voice. But rather, boyhood innocence.

"Jimmy?" Sara asked, feeling confused. He has been quiet.

Sara looked at Jimmy. The kid’s hat was no longer backwards. His arms were folded. And the hat...The hat was covering his face, chin tucked downward. There was a slight whistling noise as he snored almost silently.

"Is he....asleep?" Leonard asked Sara, almost giggling at the idea of it.

"I guess?" Sara frowned. "Maybe he's dreaming about clowns too. Anyway, have you ever heard of... the Tattooed Lady?" she asked, staring at Leonard.

"The Tatooooooooed Lady...." Leonard repeated, mouth slowly working as he drew out the 'oooo' sound.

"I dunno. Maybe. I guess she has Tatoooooooos. Maybe I had a dream about her. Or saw her on TV or something? Maybe if you told me about her. If I don't draw things like that when I get up in the morning or the middle of the night, I don't really remember them. I mean, if I dreamed about it. That's what I'm saying."

"She has lots of tattooes all over. You'll know it's her if you see her," Sara asserts.

"Yuck! Disgusting. In that case, no. Nope haven't."

"What about a wolf thing?"

"A wolf thing? What's that mean? Like, a dog-wolf? Or A clown-wolf?"

"Like a wolf-man?" Sara said. Her memories were a little hazy right now, but that described Griffix well enough, right? "An old and short one. He ate kids," she proudly informed him.

"Huh." Leonard said. "I don't know nothing about that." He mused. "Maybe that's a thing you've got going on on Main Street. Hey, what are you gonna be for Halloween? Did you tell me that yet?"

"No, I didn't!" Sara snaps out of her distracted state. It wasn't that soon yet, anyway... right?

"What!!?" Leonard asked. "Halloween is just around the corner." He said over Jimmy's loud snoring.

"Yeah, so it'll be a surprise," Sara said, sticking out her tongue.

"Hey!" Leonard said when Sara stuck her tongue out. And in response, he stuck his own tongue out and made a growling sound and a goofy face

Sara responds by contorting her face into the most twisted grimace she can muster, squinting with one eye and widening the other for extra effect. "Graaagh!"

"Blah!" Leonard shouted, and suddenly it looked like he may have taken it a bit personally. "You look...look...LIKE A DUMB STUPID-FACE!" He shouted a Sara.

Sara recoils. "Oh yeah? Well you're a dumb-dumb." Being one was worse than just looking like one.

This time Leonard did more than shout. He got up and stamped his foot. "A DUMB STUPID-FACE!" He shouted a Sara again.

This last shout was so loud that Jimmy stirred and fell over, had falling off, eyes wide as dinner plates as the young kid woke up.

"You're so dumb, you woke him up!"

While Jimmy stood up and rubbed his eyes, Leonard yelled at the top of his lungs"YOU ARE UGLY AND FAT!" And he turned around and ran away.

"Your pictures suck!" Did he take them with him?

As Sara was left there with Jimmy who gave a big yawn, she realized that yes: Leonard had taken all of the pictures with him.

Well... Good riddance. Stupid kid. Sara turned to leave.
