Kevin, Pesky: Edith's Huge Head at The Baseball Game

Kevin and Pesky were throwing a baseball back and forth behind the bleachers. Edith had chosen this location because Jimmy, who's older brother was playing in the baseball game, had to tag along with his family. So all the kids on the block went.

It was supposed to be a meeting summarizing Pesky and Kevin's findings at Ralph's house and what the next phase of the investigation would be. But soon enough a baseball and a few mitts were found behind the bleachers, and kids being kids, the inevitable ball toss began. Kevin didn't know really anyone, but because he appeared just like any other kid, greetings were made and suddenly Kevin found himself seamlessly blending into to the neighborhood group.

Kevin, Pesky: Edith's Huge Head at The Baseball Game

In some ways, Kevin is far from the stereotypical 'nerd'. This despite the fact that today he's wearing a T-shirt with a big chess piece (a King) on the front with the words 'FIDE World Cadet Championship' below it. Not to mention the reporter-style notebook sticking out of his back pocket, full of notes he prepared to share with his new friends.

But, where TV shows would make it appear that kids like him hate sports, he's joining in the game of catch happily and enthusiastically. He's not exactly an athlete, but he's not terrible at it either. Just a normal kid having fun with his new friends.

But, eventually, his mind returns to the night before, and he says as pretty much a non sequitur as he tosses the ball at one point, "Did anybody else notice that everybody from Main Street that we met had really bad memories?"

"Yeah, that's one of the weirdest parts," Pesky said.  "I mean, how do you forget stuff like that?"

Pesky had wanted to meet at the treehouse and show Kevin their headquarters, but Edith had insisted on meeting at the ball game.
He looked around for her as he and Kevin tossed the ball back and forth.
"Late again," he thought.

Kevin, Pesky: Edith's Huge Head at The Baseball Game

As Kevin and Pesky spoke, Edith made her way over to both of them. She walked between Jimmy and scolded him for juggling two baseballs, mentioning something about not being a time to play. Then she walked by Corey and Gary and told them to stop tossing that ball around.

"Come on." Edith complained at Kevin and Pesky. "Quit playing around. We've got to keep ahead of this investigation." She chastised.

Kevin, Pesky: Edith's Huge Head at The Baseball Game

Kevin catches the ball and is about to throw it again when Edith comes up with that order. He looks between her and Pesky, and then shrugs, "I got notes of everything that happened last night. Maybe there will be something there that makes sense with stuff you already found out before I moved here?"

"Notes?" Edith said, a gitty, little smile forming on her face. Like reading something was just the thing to brighten her up. "What do you think happened? What was your gut feel for Ralph's house? Did he say anything about the missing kids?" She asked, holding her hand out for any notes that Kevin might have on him.

Kevin, Pesky: Edith's Huge Head at The Baseball Game

"Hey, Edith," Pesky said as he walked over.  He heard her already grilling Kevin with questions and rolled his eyes.

"Edith, this is Kevin.  He's obviously in on the investigation now.  Kevin...this is Edith."

He turned back to Edith, removing his empty baseball mitt.  "Don't you think we should save all this talk until we get back to headquarters?  We have a lot of info, but it really needs to be kept hush-hush."  He swept his hand, indicating all of the people nearby.  "Ears are everywhere, and if any of our parents found out we were doing this, it'd be game over for all of us."

"Well..." Edith said, giving Kevin a once over and then looking at Pesky. She seemed annoyed. But then again, as Pesky knew, she always seemed or looked annoyed. "Maybe, we could wait, just a little bit." She said.

"I'm glad I thought of that."
She added.

Then she huffed an annoyed sigh. "Can we get back to the tree house!?" She yelled at all of the kids across the field, the annoyed look of an adult herding cats appearing on her face.

Kevin, Pesky: Edith's Huge Head at The Baseball Game

"Hi," Kevin adds with a grin after the introduction. He hands over the reporter-style notepad anyway. It's full of almost every quote Penelope, Ralph, or Ralph's 'mom' said the night before, as well as a vague description of Ralph's house, inside and out. For an 11-year-old, he takes his notetaking very seriously.

When Edith claims responsibility for Pesky's idea, he looks over to the other boy with a 'is she for real?' look on his face.

Pesky noticed Kevin's look and responded with a subtle smile.

"I'm ready when you are, Edith.  Kevin...you ready to see headquarters?"

"Ok." Edith said, satisfied that Kevin and Pesky were falling in line about getting everything and everyone ready to continue the investigation. "I can’t stand all of this playing. We need to make sure that people are falling in line about getting everything and everyone ready to continue the investigation." She complained, thin eyebrows furrowing into an angry, disapproving brow.

“At least I thought of keeping things secret by bringing it to the tree house.” She added again “Ok. Get everyone ready. Round them all up.” Edith ordered, twirling her finger in a circle around her head.

OOC: Both Kevin and Pesky may roll Intelligence + Empathy to learn something about their interaction with Edith. 1 combined success is needed. The results of this roll should be pasted in blue, below.

Then, if Kevin and or Pesky decide to ‘Round up the kids’ in the park, each may roll Wits + Socialize to get everyone ready to go back to the club house. 1 combined success is needed. Please paste any rolls made this way using orange
