Can we get a Treasure thread boss? We can keep track of everything then. We got 11gp, 2 short swords, and 3 daggers and a wand so far. We'll divide it in the thread.

I'm guessing if the LL says the sewers are sealed, a dead-end, more than once then the sewers are not our way out!

Now I’m even more wondering why the assassins were down there. So they were able to infiltrate into the Keep, went into the tavern, into the basement, broke through the wall, just to have a place to hide? Why not just hide outside the walls, and cut down on the chance of being discovered as they were by our characters? Do we know where the sewer empties out? Into the ocean or into a river?

I agree. If it IS a sewer, there is an outlet. Otherwise it is a septic tank that needs pumped out once in a while.

Enigma:
"Perhaps Deder could be of assistance in that.  The search in the sewers."

I don't know if he's someone we'd know, but of the Cellar tutorial NPCs, he and Arkanis do make a return in the Candlekeep Catacombs in Baldur's Gate... Damn shame Canderous, Osprey, and Mordaine don't, I always liked Mordaine.  She's like Dynaheir without the bald, hamster-toting baggage!

Well all right, that's the end of the prologue then. I'll set the next part of the game up shortly but first I want to ask you for feedback. What do you think so far, anything you'd want to change, shift around, ideas, suggestions?

I enjoyed discovering the hole in the wall, checking out the sewer. If anything, I’d maybe suggest less back to back combat, a bit more exploration or problem solving, and maybe more gold/treasure as that’s the biggest chunk of experience in OSE. 21 experience when a character needs, say 2k-2.5k for a level, in a month real time means progression is going to be very long.

Two combats left our group needing a day or two of rest given the system is tough in the healing department. And with 0 HP being dead, no saves or anything, sitting on 2HP as Max was is deadly easily. If we’re playing more a ‘character carousel’ where new characters easily come and go it’s not really an issue, but the game seems to be fairly plot heavy on us being related in fostering. If party members drop often, it will loose that initial theme. I’m ok with that, just something I thought I’d mention.

Maximum HP at 1st level is always a good idea. I was fortunate to roll 5 on a d6, but obviously not everyone was that lucky. You're always one hit away from instant death at 1st level, to have a chance of surviving that is obviously very useful.

Other than that I'll agree with what Malus said.

I hear you but the identity of the game is still very much in the air. My initial idea has been to be true to the prepped material which I won't just hand to you unless you go out and find it. Since you didn't explore much of the sewer you didn't get away with much either. Stick to it and I won't be stingy.

Regarding character carousel - that's up to you. If you die you can immediately roll up a new character and we'll insert it into the narrative. If you build up a retinue you may choose from that roster as well.

I will do my best to reward any out of the box ideas you have while exploring.

I always give max hp per level no matter what version of the rules I am running, always have going all the way back to the late 70s just to make it a little easier to survive. I got lucky and rolled an 8 on my hit points.

I am enjoying it. Looking forward to a little bit of roleplaying as well, and I think we should hire a cleric, one that can cast.

All right, new thread is up.

If you look on the main game map you can see the game area. It's in hexes and I'll use a hex travelling procedure if you leave the roads, otherwise we're doing a point crawl. This will all be behind the scenes but just so you know.

There's plenty of procedures goin around. I think the one for wilderness exploring in the OSE books is a little too rough so I like to divide the day into 4 watches (hour 1-6, 7-12, 13-18 and 19-24). You have to rest 1 watch per day or be fatigued.

Reevor is in the Library Clay, he isn't going to Baldur's Gate, Beregost or Waterdeep! Not sure who we're meeting in the Friendly Arms, no name was mentioned.

Baldur's Gate is north, Waterdeep is WAY north, Beregost is just outside of Candlekeep.

Since we don't know each other very well I can't judge if this talk of Waterdeep is IC blabber for flavour or if you're serious. I'll get a little meta here. If you go to Waterdeep... well, I won't force you to interact with what happens right now on the sword coast of course but you'll write that character right out of the game. If that's the case you're welcome to create a new character that has better motivations to dig where you stand, so to speak.

I also would appreciate help to keep the party gathered, in the larger sense (splitting up while exploring and such is of course fine). I'm not running a multi-party game, I honestly don't have that kind of time.

The letter mentions Khalid and Jaheira. It's in the journal.

Oh and I want to be clear here - I'm NOT saying you need to go to the Friendly Arm Inn if you don't want to. You can do what you want it's just the focus of the game is supposed to be the sword coast. That's a pretty large area though.

Sorry folks brain fade. I do want to keep us all together though and much as Clay would like to avoid going where we're expected, he doesn't want to go anywhere on his own whether it's Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep or even Calimshan

Understood, GM. I thought Waterdeep would be ‘in play’ since it’s part of the Sword Coast. But with your post above, I’ll have Malus just follow the group, not looking to split us up or anything. Could you give us an idea for what is the ‘in bounds’ area so we know kinda where we can and can’t go?

Yes, have a look at the game map.

I guess I didn't consider waterdeep a part of the sword coast, my FR lore is maybe not top notch.

So, where do you go and by what path? I mucked up your travelling speeds before so they're updated now and you move by the slowest party member = 12 miles/day. If you leave the road there's a risk you get lost. Hexes on the map are 24 miles, for reference, even if you're not exactly certain IC.

It will be much faster traveling on the road, hook up with a group or caravan maybe to where we're going. Not sure how far it is to the FA.
