In reply to FMB (msg # 28):

Okay, have rolled up Nimbus, the college-educated (via the military), mystically bestowed, Force Aura (gliding and infravisioning) wielding champion of good.  Now I just need a good magic phrase to change from my struggling paramedic, to crimefighter mode.

Where do we post characters, and is there a specific format we should follow, please?

Re: OOC 1

quote:
The "Natural Genius" is a 'mega-hero' and I wouldn't even use the category for a villain because these guys are best left without stats. If Superman isn't a 'mega-hero' I don't understand the concept, and if Lex Luthor can go toe to toe with Superman then Lex Luthor (who has actually been DESCRIBED as a 'natural genius') is a mega-villain

Agreed. If you put stats on them they become beatable. So best way to make them live up to their reputation is leaving them statless. Like good old Lady of Pain in Sigil.

quote:
Nope, we won't be doing Natural Genius here.

Sad. But you are the boss. To be clear I don't want to play some super strong character ruining the fun for other people. I like skillmonkey type characters and this looked like most skilled monkey in the game.

I assumed that you need to apply mega-hero stuff from Core Rulebook for something be counted as mega-hero, so I thought there was a way to make a non mega natural-genius. Game actually allows you to make a low powered Natural Geniuses at Minor heroes entry, right before NG entry in the same book, with barely any restrictions from the original ones. Are minor mega heroes a thing? I am confused.

"PU2, 71":
The Minor Hero represents a set of simple limitations that are put onto the hero during the normal character creation process. In this sense, the Minor Hero is just an option that limits the normally more powerful hero types

"PU2, 71":
Construct a character as normal from the categories of Hardware, Physical Training, Special Training, Weapons
Training, Natural Genius, or Mutant Animals - or - any of the other Power Categories, particularly the Alien, Experiments, and Mutants Power Categories (as well as those presented in this book) that generate beings with super
abilities, by imposing the following limitations and modifications.

If you can tone down NG (like slashing down number of skill and skill programs they start with, or maybe reduction of mental disciplines from the start and level ups) I would stay like to play one. Alternatively I would ask for a minor NG but it changes barely nothing for a NG so it would be a disingenuous request.

But I digress. Time to check for other options. It is very fun to a create character with this many options around.

Edit: Ignore my NG question. I am going to rock a super-invention character.

Re: OOC 1

Only thing I am sure about my character right now is that it is going to be an inventor/crafter type. So I should be able to fix you something. As long as you cover the material cost I wouldn't ask for extra fee.

Re: OOC 1

@Dragonhide Body armour is on pg 342 and onwards.  Radioactive skin?  I'm going to have to turn my radiation detector off, :D but it does justify shelling out for radiation shielding on my suit.

And a welcome to all those arriving.  Look forward to playing along side people

In reply to Dragonhide (msg # 32):

I'm sure Hikari/JUSTICAR can craft you some fairly useful Class 4 Hard Armor.  He made the JUSTICAR after all.

So thus far...
JUSTICAR and LITE STAR... 2 powered Battlesuits
CHIMP MAN Z... Dr Zaus' nephew
FORGEMASTER... a crafter
TaoZen... martial artist sword master {Hikari would love to practice spar with bokken}
and AnotherOne... blank for now.

Have I missed any?

OOC 1

Hat last attempt at posting this got away from me, and decided to redo it here and delete the other.
Chimp Man Z, also known to the world as Jacob Davidovitch, is the offspring of circus performers, from different aerialist and tumbler families, who originally hail from Pripyat in the Ukraine.  When Cernobyl went critical, and everyone was evacuated, their respective families made their way to Isreal.  Both of his parents spent two years each in the IDF, then were hired by the second largest travelling circus and sideshow in the US.
The show is known as Benveniste's Travelling Wonders, begun by Jiacomo Beneviste (Italian Jew and showman working in Germany who barely escaped Krystalnacht).  Jiacomo made it a habit to hire Jewish refugees in order to get them into the US, at a time the US refused; it is a practice continued by his daughter, and current owner, Katerina Beneviste, who helps refugees from all religious, national, and ethnic backgrounds to find jobs.
When his mother discovered she was pregnant, she left the show, but not her husband, and opened a gymnastics studio in Tampa, Florida, where the show wintered.  It was there that Jacob lived a relatively normal life, learning what his mother and her employees had to teach (including one instructor who also taught martial arts).  Well, for awhile, anyway.
It was when puberty began, during his seventh grade year, that things began to fundamentally change for Jacob.  Rapid and excessive hair growth, slightly malformed feet becoming fully prehensile, and a slightly extended spine/coccyx growing into a prehensile tail.  He learned to shave where he would be most visible, kept the tail wrapped about his waist, and wore larger shoes in order to try to continue to fit in.  And it worked for awhile.
Then his mother was diagnosed with brain cancer.  She had had very few symptoms, and by the time they caught it, it was already stage four and inoperable.  Hos father came to stay with them, to take care of his wife and son until the inevitable.
His mother made it through Hannukah and the New Year of his eighth grade year, but not past Presidents' Day.  He finished out the school year, then left with his father for the circus.
He actually enjoyed the circus.  He learned to be comfortable with his mutations there.  Letting his hair grow out, he became not only an accomplished aerialist, but a sideshow attraction.  An online contest was conducted for a stage name for the young man, the winner, an eleven year old boy, and his family receiving lifetime passes to the show.  And, thus, a star named ChimpMan-Zee was born.
Being homeschooled and working as a part of the show was great fun for Jacob, allowing him and his father to grow closer as they mourned hos.mother and learned to accept her loss.  However, he eventually felt the need to move on to new and exciting things.  He was accepted to Center City University, first at the school of medicine to be a physical therapist, while teaching gymnastics to help pay tuition.  He then became EMT certified, and later, a paramedic, after coming across and accident scene and having a victim die in his arms while waiting for an ambulance delayed by traffic.  He trained with firefighters after assisting in the rescue of scientists and workers from a chemical plant fire; he came out shielding the with a piece of metal roofing, his clothes burning off of him, when an explosion blew him through a news truck, and destroyed the rest of his clothing on live TV (he is definitely Jewish...).  He moved on to Criminal Justice after helping campus police catch and prosecute a serial rapist.
During all of this, his fame grew outside of the circus, most of his press being positive and most people loving him (especially children, who always seem enamored of anything resembling a monkey).  However, he has faced some discrimination and hatred from people.  With most of his experiences being positive, he has decided to be an apparently eternal optimist who does not let the negativity get him down.
While he initially intended to allow himself to fade into obscurity, his desire and willingness to help others has put him on the path of the hero....

Cool.  Funny thing about Chimp Man Z.  My second wife is actually partially responsible for his creation.
Chang (Right) and Eng (Left) Bunker, the famous conjoined twins from Siam, were a feature, alongside Fedor Jeftichew (Jo-Jo the Dog-faced Boy), of PT Barnum's travelling show.  They were actuallly quite famous, travelling all over the world.  Well, eventually, the pair settled down in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, married sisters in 1843, and father a total of 21 children.
My second wife was born and raised in Mount Airy, NC (Andy Griffith's hometown, and basis for Mayberry on his show).  Well, she has an aunt who married a man who was named after his famous great-grandfather, Eng Bunker.
So, I joined an HU2 game and got to thinking about real-world mutations, Like Chang and Eng Bunker, and Fedor Jeftichew, which got me thinking about freakshows/sideshows.  So, I did some research, and, Voila!, ChimpMan Z was born.

Just goes to show where inspiration can come from. :) Have toyed with the idea of having a Hardware: Mechanical Genius, make an armoured airship as a mobile base with small air craft for crime fighting, based on the US Navys airship aircraft carriers that saw service in the early 1930's

In reply to Lite Star (msg # 47):

Flying base is a badass idea. I am glad this game has actual mechanics for it.

So, I am almost done with my character. I am going pick a fancy martial art from Ninjas & Superspies or Mystic China (Bye bye 8 secondary skills). But I have no idea about which one to pick. I read any one of them and I think, heh that sounds cool. I don't even know what I want from a martial art form. Maybe compatibility with weapons?

1) Choy-Li-Fut Kung Fu, Spears, short swords and eight sectioned staff.

2) Moo Gi Gong, for improvised weapons.

Looking through the books I have just had a thought.  What year/decade is the game set?  The difference between having to buy a mobile phone as equipment, or just having it as an everyday personal belonging.  Also may effect character's choice of RP and interaction, like what music they listen to, what pop culture references might be relevant.

Hikari is, OF Course, an Anime' freak... like me, being from Japan is just a perk!
