Forgemaster:
So, I am almost done with my character. I am going pick a fancy martial art from Ninjas & Superspies or Mystic China (Bye bye 8 secondary skills). But I have no idea about which one to pick. I read any one of them and I think, heh that sounds cool. I don't even know what I want from a martial art form. Maybe compatibility with weapons?
Tae Kwon Do (Ninja & Super Spies) is good because of 4 attacks to start, but no weapons.
Tang Su Do (Chuck Norris' beginning style he learned in the USAF) and Isshin Ryu both start with one or two weapons, and 3 attacks.
Zanji Shinjinken Ryu has 4 attacks, and a selection if weapons, most if which you get at first level.
Moo Gi Gong provides all ancient and paired ancient WPs (including archery), plus use of improvised weapons, but starts with 2 attacks. Many improvised weapons, however can be covered by blunt, knife, spear, staff, and targetting/missile WPs.
Drunken Style, while have no beginning weapons (improvised and the ones above would be perfect) and only 2 attacks to start, could be a great deal of fun to roleplay.
Chimp Man Z practices Tai Sheng Pek Kwar, or Monkey Style. It starts with only 2 attacks, but there are ways to mitigate that.
Shih Bah Ban Wu Yih Kung Fu (18 Weapons Style, in Mystic China) provides a really good number of weapon proficiencies, and adds more over time. However, I don't believe that includes ranged weapons.
You can also find a number of Martial Arts in the Rifter Magazine. Rifter #3 has an article called World Warriors that includes many styles, including Caporeia, Jeet Kun Do (Bruce Lee's), Boxing/Fisticuffs, Savate and Arnis. Rifter #7 has a number of fictional martial arts, but, after the Rifts Conversions for Mystic China, it also has a selection of real world forms, like Hung Gar Kung Fu (the basis for Earthbending style from Avatar: The Last Airbender), Judo, and Wrestling (professional).
For the Avatar fans, Waterbending is based on Tai Chi Ch'uan, Firebending on Shaolin, and Airbending on Ba Gua.
