Me with a new question.

Ninjas and Superspies provide different stat bonuses for several physical skills. Which one should we use?

Note: I would like to use Boxing on Ninjas and Superspies because HU2 has extra attack per melee which does nothing for martial arts users since martial arts hard cap your attack per melee.

I would think you use the Ninja's and Superspies skills that modify stats.  Your a dedicated martial artist... so the same physical skills we non-dedicated hand to hand combatants use... give you MORE mileage than us cause your more focused on your fighting art than we are?

Cool.. another Asian hero! Now I don't feel so much like 'Heroo' from BIG HERO 6!

Well, I am going to mention Kevin Siembieda's take on it.  The most recent version is correct.  The Ninjas & Super Spies games I have played in, the GM had no problem adding the Boxing extra attack.  We always thought it was the martial arts forms taught a specific number of attacks, as opposed to having two for being a PC, and two for hand-to-hand training.

Nimbus and Jacob may already know each other, then.  He started as an EMT and teaching gymnastics to work his way through his physical therapy degree, and is now paramedic certified.
But, then, saying they might know each other is a lot like saying two people from France might know each other....LOL


Jacob and Derek might know each other (and I'd bet if they don't, Derek would have heard of Jacob), but Jacob almost certainly doesn't know that Derek is Nimbus - for one thing, when transformed as Nimbus, Derek looks different.

So, I make comparison beyond "woah, there are different numbers", and most of the time Ninja stuff yields higher bonuses. So it is likely we use HU2 stuff if everyone has already done their characters according to that.

HU2 is the newer one right?

'Shrug' DM call... but note even when Ninja's and Superspies was brand new... its numbers for the physical skill stat bonuses was ALWAYS higher than HU1 even THEN! so ask the GM...

And there has never been a updating of N&S to a 2nd edition... Mythic China is the closest to a rewrite and yet its still old comparitively.

My HU 2e was a 1st printing 1998, but my PDF says its a 2017-PDF Edition...and there are changes... like the Robot Budget numbers! 'shrug'

Should be able to get something done this weekend character wise. Leaning towards the experiment side of things, lots of fun options there.

@Justicar - Hmmm was unaware that the PDF was different from the 1998 print.  Will have to compare and see if the changes effect my build.

I've been using the skill bonuses from HU2ndR, not Ninjas & Superspies.
The martial arts forms in Ninjas & Superspies give the starting number of attacks per melee for the character, replacing the "two attacks for breathing" rule. So, if your superhero takes Aikido, and also manages the Boxing skill, they will have two attacks at first level. If you think you've inflated your character's attacks per melee, please fix it. FYI: the three martial arts forms with the highest beginning number of attacks (they have four) are:
  • FONG NGAN KUNG FU
  • TAE KWON DO KARATE
  • ZANJI SHINJINKEN-RYU

There seems to be some confusion on the Supersoldier options. To clarify:
  • If you use the options in Heroes Unlimited Revised Second Edition you choose or roll for one Minor Super Ability and then roll or choose on the Supersoldier Ability Table, then choose or roll on the Supersoldier Ability Table, then roll or choose on the Supersoldier Ability Table.
  • Using Powers Unlimited 2 first chooses or rolls on the number and type of super abilities table, and the rolls (1d4) or chooses (from one to four) for the number of supersoldier enhancements. Then each enhancement is either a roll or a choice depending on what was done previously.


I hope this has made things clearer.

So we all meet up coming to a scene of trouble.. from a rampaging supervillian..

OK. Do we want to start a thread of that?  Central City - UNDERSEIGE.. {snicker ~ corny, I know} or something like that, and we all make an intro post to describe ourselves and meet up to deal with the threat.  It doesn't even need to be more than a narrative battle no rolls needed just some unscripted hero action..to get us all together!


And what about a Team name?

Centurions, Center City Champions, Center Guard ?

Actually.. I'm kind of fond of something that has nothing to do with Center... like RONIN

A team name is something to work on for sure.  The group has an official name already of course, we are a unit of the CCPD, LESP.  So more of a nick name is in order.

I need to clarify something (I should have brought it up sooner). Characters that use one of the 'generic' hand to hand skills do not add the listed attacks per melee at level one. The listed attacks per melee added at level one become the character's attacks per melee. Yes, Hand to Hand: Assassin starts with one attack per melee. Characters that use a martial art from Ninjas & Superspies or Mystic China do not add the starting attacks from their martial art to the standard two attacks per melee, the standard two attacks per melee are replaced with the number of attacks listed with the martial art.
If your character has an inflated (or deflated) number of attacks per melee, please correct it.

The Protectorate?  The Authority?  :D  Hmmm... maybe not.  If there really are 13 of us ... The Coven?  Bureau 13?  The Dirty Baker's Dozen?  The Majestic 13?

Trying to finalize my character as well (so... many ... options...), but I am working on mostly details/fiddly bits at this point.  The main gist is that Tyger is just another member of the nation's supersoldier program (well, perhaps one of the more successful members ... 'success' meaning not dying or given massive debilitating side-effects from the strange chemical/biological/radioactive concoction that she was exposed to...).  She does have a voracious appetite though, even if she never gains weight - probably a tapeworm that she picked up in Nepal...

And just like SWAT.. you don't call them in to deal with pickpockets in the bus station... they only call us in for metehuman threats!  I also expect in things like a bank-roobery.. we don't go in ourselves.. but we send say three or so members to assist the police IF they call for us.. and just to make sure if there are unknown metahuman robbers in play we're their to provide needed support.  The Regular police know how to do their job after all.. we're not needed for petty stuff they deal with all the time.

But when the "Masters of Speed" are doing a 'run' on ALL the downtown banks... That's when We get called in!
