This was an unexpected development, but one that could be worked on. At the very least Januchowski was persistent, a handy trait in the investigative arts. When he turns, he'll see Spymaster dressed in a white tanktop and shorts, a pair of flip flops on his feet, decidedly less formal than his suit he'd wear into the office.

"Well, the first lesson is you need to dress the part you're playing, and the environment you'll deal with. What you're wearing would be fine for a crime scene, but this is stakeout work. This roof will start to be unbearably hot shortly, as the sun beats down on the tar. Most detectives would sit in a nearby car, but you know how detectives look, you can pick them out and so can a pro like the one we're after. So I've been mixing up cars, going to nearby roof tops and parking garages, giving me different angles, as well as not standing out as obvious. Today, you'll see I brought a cooler full of nonalcoholic beer and bottles of water, so I can sit here and drink roof beers should I feel we're being watched, plus maintain hydration against the heat. Take your jacket off, remove your shoulder holster, and put them on the chair over there. If we're taking fire you're a bit far off for the standard service pistol to be useful, and if our pro sees a man up here with a holster on, we're definitely made."

Spymaster gestures to a beat up lawn chair by the door, sitting next to his own duffel bag with his normal clothes and his .45 in it, as well as the cooler which had drinks and some sandwiches. He grabbed an extra beer and cracked it open, before he walked back over to the edge of the roof, and picked up his camera, motioning for Januchowski to follow him. He set the beer on the ledge next to an already open one.

"Normally, we're looking for a specific person, or vehicle. In this instance what we know is vastly outweighed by what we don't. so we're monitoring for males, roughly five foot eight to six foot, focusing on people wearing jackets capable of hiding a pistol. Also, we're watching the vehicles coming in. Usually deliveries to a hotel or any other business are on a rough schedule, so any outside of that could be bringing in things we need to know about. We're also going to be trying to monitor the people setting up for the convention and the fundraiser. Our killer could be working with the catering, or even as an exhibitor in the hall before going over to the fundraiser, allowing him to slip the security far easier. Keep an eye on the comings and goings for a moment, I need to check with Runa about our infiltration into the con in a few days."

He stepped back over to the chair, flipping his phone out and picking Broyko, typing a quick text with his flip phone.

Januchowski looked relieved. He followed Spymaster's instructions to the letter, removing his jacket and shoulder holster, before placing them on the chair.

"Yeah, that makes sense. I've already been through the desk video for the past two weeks, pretty sure he didn't check in. The secret service people checked the caterers and the hotel staff, all the new hires from both have been vetted. Is this one of those times when you've got nothing else, so you watch the location for something that seems off?"

Hikari nods to Arnold and regards Runa awaiting her thoughts on a drone chase... when out of the air a voice speaks something... he cannot understand.  The words were clear and certain but their source was not obvious.  Were he in the Justicar its proximity sensors would have warned him of a new arrival even if unseen...

Justar looked around perplexed... he knows he hear a voice speaking... but cannot locate the speaker or understand what was said...

Looking at Captain Justice and Runa he asked, "Did you two hear someone speaking in a foreign language just now?  I cannot identify what language it was... but I'm certain I heard someone ...!"

With a two step and a robot dog Drifter sees if he has the right address?

"Um hi hello... my name is Drifter and this is my AI Companion K9 from the Galifrey dimension..."

The realization sinks in, K9 had been with The Stuntman helping to hold off the Blue Meanies that had been summoned by Darryl Starre's  minion, The Fantasist. The robot dog didn't make it through the portal. Still, he has the plans and a copy of the AI's base on his phone perhaps another could be built.

"I assume you may want to see my credentials also.  If they are 100% a match it would be a fortunate but unexpected result.  For one thing my name is attached to it :) still who wants to check them first?"

Hikari turned to face the ... unexpected arrival.

And looked for ... whatever 'companion' he was referring to but 'Drifter' appeared to be alone ... which lead Hikari to wonder at the man's mental state.  'Drifter' mentioned AI and Dimension... but Hikari had already had K3 and all the other AI Sophants in his suits informed that if any Dimensional disturbances that his detector could find were detected he should be informed immediately ~ K3 was right here with the Justicar-Polymer and had given no such warning!

The simpler explanation might be the man was potentially mentally delusional... Hikari cast a uncertain look to both Runa and Captain Justice ... then shrugged...

Floating down to the rooftop Justar addressed 'Drifter' still in energy form he tried to soften his crackling energy voice's tone...with little success, "Hello... sir. This is a restricted facility of the Center City LESP to Sentinel's Team members only. How did you get past security to the roof... ?  I am Justar, I'll have to ask you to address the LESP officers in our public offices below... are you in distress or in need of counselling?"

Runa paused when the stranger appeared. The man was babbling something about showing his 'credentials' but she had no more idea about what he was speaking of than she did why he was even there.

He hadn't presented himself as a threat and other than his odd statements and presence where he shouldn't be, he had done nothing alarming. The priestess decided to continue watching and listening while Justar spoke with him, rather than enter the conversation.

Olympus or Hades?  one of the six elemental planes? yes most people think there are only 4 but in my experience I have also found the Plane of Darkness and the Plane of Light also exist and can be accessed from the World of Glorantha.  Yes that is just like the fantasy game of Rune Quest

Justar regards Drifter but does not move.  Again he glances at Runa and Captain Justice before replying...

His voice still crackling with power in his energy form like controlled modulated speaker feedback made into speech, "I see.  You are inferring you can travel dimensions... weather you can or cannot and fascinating as such a possibility might be those are not relevant questions right now ~ I regrettably Cannot go on such a journey.. I have family matters that need resolving and must deal with in MY reality here. What is a relevant and important Question is ~ Why are you here Drifter?  What is it you want with the LESP Sentinels?"

Justar is in the direct sunlight feeding him power from the sun... but also sharpening his vision and senses to the acuity of a hawk... and even from his position he can see clearly the credentials he is holding... they do indeed look like the same official documentation he has declaring him a member of LESP Sentinels.  Though the date is questionable... they could easily be forgeries, though why anyone would go through such banal effort unless they were delusional or ..perhaps in some reality legitimate?

The other eyebrow raises up when drifter apparently opened a portal to another dimension.

"Hey Justar, could you send in a drone to see if that is actually a portal? As opposed to some sort of illusion. No point in risking one of us."

Runa's apprehension level suddenly spiked as the man, who had identified himself as Drifter, spoke about other worlds, traveling among them to include the Realms of Light and Dark.

"Hey, hey, its OK, you're OK," Lilibeth soothed Runa, "What's gotten into you?" "I...I do not like his kind of sorcerer," Runa replied in their shared mind. Lilibeth could feel that Runa was hiding something from her but didn't press the priestess.

The priestess, still hovering a few feet off the rooftop, slowly moved away from Justar and Captain Justice, making it harder to be struck by a single attack.

Justar's reaction is similar to Captain Justice's his ... energy form's eyes widening in surprise...

He regards Captain Justice nodding and reply, "A moment please...", then turning to the Justicar suit standing nearby, "K3, entry!"

He Justicar-Polymer reacts, 'Acknowledged Justar.', it moves over and opens it's visor...

Justar flies to the opening and fills the suit with a flash of black light Hikari transforms back to his flesh and blood body... and closes the visor sealing the suit.

Justicar moves to forward to a respectful 10'ft distance from the dimensional threshold and pull for one of the suit compartments a hand-held device ... some form of scanning device.

He give a slight warning before activating it, "Uhm.. forgive me Arnold, Lilibeth... this device is a Quantum Pulse Particle Sensor of my design, it can detect at least one type of dimensional threshold anomaly... it's basically an unshielded particle collider.. it emits some harmful particles which its sensors can use to pin-point changes to the brane superstrings present in some dimensional thresholds but I'll only use it but a few moments... it's quite sensitive."

14:11, Today: JUSTICAR rolled 94 using 1d100 with rolls of 94.  Justicar - Read Sensor Instruments [102%]. – [roll=1682705490.16018.355584]  [Success!!!]

Seconds tick by as he scans the portal then turn the QPP Sensor off putting it away commenting, "Fascinating.  The Dimensional Translocator of Dr. Phage's design I theorized was an active EM Emitter that induced Quantum Entanglement on the locale and object to be transported to said locale... but I think THIS effect is more of a Quantum Tunneling Effect... far more powerful and with vastly wider scope of potential frequencies and... hazards!"

The Justicar suit is recording the visual returns from the dimensional aperture. To which Justicar launched both drones one moving to the opening but not entering instead it extending a retractable robotic arm with some device on the end...  a led light display on it lit and suddenly a Translucent 10'ft x 10'ft shimmering blue projected force field wall barred any entry or exit form the dimensional threshold, while the second drone clearly extended weapons to target anything on the other side of the portal that tried to come near.

Justicar spoke up finally, "Your point is made Drifter. Please close that portal now.  I did not note any obvious technology you may have used to manifest that portal.. is that a natural ability you possess to open dimensional portals?  The last visitor from that particular dimension one of those ~ 10ton, 40'ft tall 'Bronto' bears... came through before and Died not from our weapons but because the physical laws of our reality were not compatible with its continued life... WE likely would suffer a similar fate should ANYONE native to our dimension cross into that realm.. the laws of physics there would kills us.  We need no further convincing, nor any need to send a drone through... I can tell from my sensors an actual dimensional disturbance has been manifested."

Turning his head to regard Drifter, "My question still remains unanswered ~ Why are you here what do you need of our world's LESP?  I can read your credentials and K3 has updated me on your inquiry on the LESP1 Secure channel.  You know our Administrator Detective Broyko.  I will conjecture your affiliated with the LESP of your dimension.. has something happened to the LESP Sentinels of your world Why come to our Dimension?"

Runa lands, her wings of divine energy furling to take up less space. She is clearly still wary but no longer looks like a mother facing a threat to her children. She has questions for Drifter but was his want, Justicar had already leveled a veritable barrage of words at the new comer. She would wait to see how he responded before she asked her own.

"Exactly right. We're dealing with a piece of slightly offcolored hay in a haystack. We can't monitor the senator as he isn't here yet, and once he is, Garcia will be with him. We have the AFF, but they're mostly digital, so Herald is running that lead, since he can chase any lead that comes up with his speed. That leaves the convention center being the other variable we know. It's probably not going to come to anything, but it might. So far I've identified several possible sniper nests that could strike our VIP as he arrives, as well as exit routes, so at least my time hasn't been wasted."

Reaching into the duffel bag, Spymaster pulled out a one of his rifle scopes, he had been using it as a way to test the sniping points he had found, seeing the view a would-be assassin could be using. He hands the scope to Januchowski.

"Take this and scan around a bit, tell me where you'd put some patrolmen at to catch a fleeing hitman."

Januchowski takes the scope and starts scanning with it, the directions he starts with indicates he's looking at other rooftops, first.
"That's easy," he says, "Broyko has us set to put a squad car on each corner and secure the exits at his command. Since he'll be inside watching he'll probably give the command as soon as anything happens. Before anyone is allowed out, we'll get a bolo describing who to detain and that'll be the hitman."
"He pulled in the off duties from every precinct in the city to cover the hotel and convention center, so it shouldn't be a problem."

"Of course Broyko will have men on the doors. In the short time I've known him, I haven't got the feeling he's a dumb man. Rooftops are a smart second bet, but we'll likely have Runa, Captain Justice, and Justicar or one of his drones out here as eyes in the sky. Our assassin will know of Justicar, and may have seen the little training exercise the other day. It's not likely he'll think the roofs will be an escape plan either, unless he had a plan to take our flying heroes out. That leaves four options. Option A, he uses a grapple line to launch from a hotel room to a different nearby building or street. Not likely, for the same reason as the roofs. Option B, he has a room in the hotel against an outer wall, and uses a shaped charge to leave explosively, or some form of phasing to escape. Slightly better, the shock and awe approach will throw your regular police officer of their game, and he can put diversions around to keep our air squad busy, and if he can quietly slip into the next building, or out a back alley, all the better for him. Option C, he uses the sewer system to escape. If there is an entrance in the building, there's a strong chance he can be out without detection, or if they can phase to it, but we can chase through the sewers, ideally we don't. Option D is one that will be hardest for us to deal with. Our assassin can teleport, if that's the case, we'll have to rely on Justicar's scanning tech to hopefully get a signal on it, or maybe Drifter has something for that, haven't really got a read on him. Of course, this all presumes he follows the MO we most know. He could yet use poison or an explosive, but I'm confident that if Garcia and I sweep the room, we can get any bomb he leaves."

Spymaster takes a sip from his bottle of water, snapping a few more pictures.

"And this is why a case with no clues is infuriating. We have to chase any lead, no matter how small, because it might be what breaks it all open. If this were a murder it might go to a cold case. Perhaps we'll find more during the meeting with Livingstone's team. Speaking of, we should probably head back, I'll need to change and get the floor team to meet up with Livingstone's men this evening."

"to finally answer your question Mister.  Alas something happened back on my world and actions do have consequences. The big result was due to one of these actions.  The consequence was the devastation of that world.  How total it was I do not know.  I lost friends and family back there and if I do go back it would hopefully be in the company of fellow supers to aid in whatever rescue could be initiated.

That's so sad and tragic... you must feel somewhat .. lost.  Of course, we would consider how the LESP Sentinels might be of assistance though our reality's troubles must take presidence in our concerns.  We should direct you to our Detective Broyko... I have no authority to accept or deny your Dimensional Refugee status here in our reality."

"I can only ask you consult with our Detective Broyko as it is also not LESP mandate to detain dimensional travelers on principle, and the US nor any other nation currently has any public policy or laws pertaining to the citizen status of a dimensional visitor.  Not like we have any means to prevent you from coming or going as you please... but if you wish to choose .. OUR Here and Now as a new home... Detective Broyko would be you best bet to securing a legal status in our society and civilization."

For example there is Galafrey Earth with The Timelords, Spiderverse Earth with Peter Parker, Farscape Earth with living space faring ships, Xmen Earth with mutants in conflict with non mutants, now that reality has me confused, for the gene factor has been part of Humankind so long that what is the difference between mutant or non mutant? they all have the x gene. Krypton Earth with Superman, Supergirl not to forget Batman and The Lantern Corp.
