How Much Trouble They Got In To

Then Winter Herald comes through Drifter's connection, saying, "A moment."
"Drifter, I am of the theory you were not born the way you are. You developed the ability to see multiple possibilities concurrently at some point, and frequently cannot tell the difference between them and outright fantasy due to the similarities they possess. I understand how difficult it is to 'filter down,' to ignore multiple spectra of vision and hearing to allow oneself to sensibly interpret the inefficient aural and expressive communication organics favor and interact meaningfully with such beings. I empathize with not having been designed with a mind that can efficiently interpret the incredible view you likely possess."
"Buuuuuut..."
"I need you to focus on the reality my voice, right now, is coming from, because this is all most of us interact with. You brought part of our team to a region of that reality called Chinilaya. You should be there with them."
"So how is the team in Chinilaya doing? We need a status report."

"Starfish buns should only be used for shrimp."

CMZ seems lost at the conversation going through the... portal that Drifter had made.  This conversation is happening When?
He turns to the colonel.  What do we want to do about the tower?   Are there others around the country?

This whole thing is just weird for Paragon. She decided to just stay back and watch.

The new voice comes through, again, saying, "...so we're down to cheesy challenge and reply code phrases?
'There are no fish under the ice... here.'  I'm Sooo out of here!"
"Let me know when something important is needed doing... clearly I'm gonna need my rest with all THIS silliness!"

Lt. Smohk comes through, saying, "you'll need to take down those radio towers. They're being used to create a communications grid through the whole area. Disrupting that could supply the edge we'll need."

Winter Herald is heard to say, "Ah. So you, at least are okay, Z. This answers many of my questions. How is Paragon, and aside from contact with one of Smohk's allies, how are you coming along? We are... two days from when we last saw you follow Drifter."
"You have been planning this for some time. What resources can we expect? Is there a preexisting movement, and how friendly to us can we expect them to be?"

Colonel Flagg's jumps in, saying, "We haven't seen any radio towers. There's watchtowers all over the place, just like national forests back home, but no radio towers."
"We're with some of the resistance, here. They're organized, but not militant. We've been promised essentials waiting for us, no transport is available. It'll take us a day or two to get to the rendezvous, longer if we're to find and knock down these invisible antennae."

Maybe the watchtowers ARE the antenna, CMZ muses.  I'm no radio expert, but we know the more surface area, the better the reception and transmission.  A watchtower has a considerable amount of surface area.
 Especially these.

At the same time Paragon is sounding off, Winter Herald is heard through the link to say, "I trust your discretion for the actions you will be taken. Anything that will help us, because you are in this mess, too. But Paragon - what is her status?"
As Paragon had, fortuitously, sounded off as he was asking after her status, Winter Herald continues, "It is consistent for FORCE to use the same tactic multiple times, based on what little I have discerned from them. How close is this cove to the shoreline or an airport?"

Lieutenant Smohk speaks about the map, "The four points of interest were built right after the revolution. The cove was the sight of a decisive battle in the revolution; both the battle and the location have now been named after the rebel leader during the battle. Soon after el presidente took over the cove was renamed and the area converted from jungle to a retreat for the Chinilayan president and his family."
"About two years ago, new construction was begun. The other two locations marked on the map appear to be military in nature, but no operatives have gotten close enough to identify them. Colonel Flagg thinks we can ignore them, I think we need to know what they are."

Drifter's communication rift closes.

I think you have to be within a certain range for your power to work.
I want to go look at this tower myself, CMZ suggests.  I can get the monkeys to do things, but I can't really understand them.  It's more they seem to understand me.

At the watchtower, one of the bolts holding struts to the frame suddenly snaps free. The robot in the watchtower doesn't seem to react, but two of the villagers suddenly rush from their houses and run to the watchtower.

He shrugs.  They're here for the moment, he says, indicating the howlers in the trees around them.  It seems a little bit eerie, the monkeys just sitting there, still and silent, like statues of soldiers awaiting orders.

For a brief moment, all is silent. Then the platform at the top of the tower explodes.
Colonel Flagg leaves the house and advances a few steps towards the tower, but as the smoke clears he stops. The robot atop the tower has been obliterated. The two androids, now obviously not human, stand at the base of the tower. Both have fist-sized holes in their chest and head. Inside the holes can be seen wiring and tubes of milky white fluid.
Matías stares a bit, and then says, "that should do it. I'll get word out that you're on our side."
