Combat

Folks, I apologize.  I discussed how I want to handle combat with the original players, and thought that it was laid out in a post but it looks like it was not.  I do not intend to run Combat as at round by round roll off.  That takes too long and can slow down the story.  I also do not want it to be left up to freeform.  I want your skills to play a part.  So here is my plan for combat.

I have assigned each person a combat rating based on their skills.  This is a private rating, for a few reasons.  No one should know how they compare to anyone else.  You also shouldn't really know how well you rate until you actually got into some combat and see who you take, and who takes you.

This combat rating will fluctuate depending on the type of combat.  (Melee, brawl, guns, etc.).  It will also take into account your current physical state, mental state, and environment.  Then I will ask you how you intend to approach the fight.  The tactic you want to use, etc. You can also try to determine your enemies tactics, and strengths.

From there you will make a few unmodified rolls, the number is dependant on the significance and the risk of the fight.  The more risky and significant the more rolls.  This way you dont lose big fights because of a single bad roll.  Simple affairs may be just a single roll, epic fights may be 3 out of five, 4 out of seven.

Each roll is a round where I will set the stage, then tell you if you win the round or lose the round (depending on the roll).  If it is you vs an NPC, you get to describe the round, even if you lose, you get to narrate how you lose.  If it is PC vs PC, the winner narrates the round.

This way the combats are quick, and you really get to make them as cool or as not cool as you want.  Also using tactics and finding ways to bring in some skills that you might be really good at will add to your chances of winning.

There may still be cases where a combat roll will be made normally.  If you throwing a surprise punch, I may ask you to roll it.  If you are dodging a one off attack.  This system is more for full fledged combat.

Please let me know in the OCC feedback thread, if you have any question or issues with this.
