North Isle

North Isle is a small island off the northwest coast of Nezrak's continent, between the coast of the sea-reavers and the Free Isles. It has long been disputed between the two, and is now held by the sea-reavers, who lately took it from the Free Isles.

The island is narrow and rocky, longer north/south than east/west, though with a few patches of better soil, which was farmed when the Free Folk held it. The largest patch towards the south end of the isle was the site of the largest Free Folk settlement, which was sacked and burned by by the reavers when they took the isle. It had consisted chiefly of wooden houses surrounded by a palisade, but most of the former homes are now charred ruins. The palisade has been repaired and surrounds a stone tower some three stories tall, formerly the keep of the village, and now held by the sea-reaver garrison, a small force, but men chosen for their skill in battle and their devotion to the reavers' dark gods. The small harbor of the former settlement now holds a few of the sea-reavers' sleek war-galleys and a couple of small skiffs used for fishing. Most of the rest of the island is now covered by straggling brush -- small pines and the like which have grown up since the island fell to the reavers. At a few points the reavers maintain watch points of a handful of men, keeping guard against any return of the Free Folk. They have made crows' nests in a few of the taller trees, where they post watchers who are relieved by others who rest when off watch in simple huts at the foot of the trees.
