Yryom (capital of West Isle)

Yryom is the capital of the West Isle. Due to the threat of raids by Nezrak's dragonriders, it is surrounded by high walls of pale grey granite carved by the dwarves coming from their caves in the mountains above the town. The walls are topped by sturdy towers built as platforms for the giant ballistae which are the only weapons the dragons fear. Though built by the dwarves, these defenses are now garrisoned by the people of the city, chiefly humans.
Fortified quays extend into the bay to protect the harbor, which is crowded by ships from all the isles and even a few from their distant allies on the northeastern mainland. The noblest are the mighty war-galleys of the royal navy, with broad sails in the royal colors (white and green) and sturdy oars. Unlike the dragonships of the sea-reavers, these vessels are decked and have high castles fore and aft. Besides these warships, there are round-bellied merchantmen, slender elvish sloops, and common fishing smacks, as well as the coracles of the halflings bobbing about on local errands.
From the harbor, well-paved roads of stone lead up into the city, passing welcoming inns and well-built white-plastered houses with red-tiled roofs, leading up to the grand market surrounded by marble colonnades and adorned with plashing fountains, then on higher hills the mansions of the nobles, the splendid palace of the king, the pillared council hall where the councilors chosen by all the isles meet, the temples of all the gods of the Free Folk --the grove of Halbol, the gleaming gold-domed shrine of Nelgul, the somber dignity of the the house of Yalsol in red basalt, the sea-green limestone temple of Maboz(nearer the harbor than the others), the warm brown sandstone of the temple of Gumoma and the tawny sandstone courts of Tyayima, where leopardesses and lionesses freely stalk.
Though some of the houses of the town are suited to the other Free Folk, most are occupied by humans, but in separate quarters there are the low cozy dwellings of the halflings, the sturdy stone townhouses of the dwarves (maintained chiefly for visits from their home caverns), and the gracefully carved wooden halls of the elves, set amid ever-flowering trees.
