Chamoy

On the far southeast coast, warmed by the Sea-Dragon Current to near tropical heat, lies Chamoy, the city of the corsairs. Surrounded by dense rain forest, the home of strange beasts and  occasional clearings where simple farmers scratch a living from their fields, the city's main entry is by sea. It is surrounded by high walls of black basalt topped with round towers which give lookouts clear views of all approaching vessels. Quays of the same stone extend into the warm waves of the harbor where there are moored the sleek black galleys of the corsairs with their lateen sails furled. Corsair crewmen lounge about the quays, guarding their ships (more alertly than they seem) and overseeing the work of slave porters who unload loot and slaves and load fresh supplies for new raiding cruises. The harbor also holds some merchant ships from Vazaz and Yoolmai unloading grain and dried fish, and smaller local craft. Beyond the harbor well-paved roads lead to great stone warehouses where the loot and slaves are stored for auction  or distribution and the supplies are accumulated until needed. These buildings are also always guarded by corsairs. Beyond them, awnings cover booths where the private traders chaffer with corsairs and other city dwellers, and others sell the potent local brew from tall pottery jars, offering also the spicy pickles and jerked meats that spur their customers' thirst.

In the center of the city is the stronger higher wall of the the citadel, whose gate opens through a narrow portcullis guarded by corsairs in full sable mail (rare in this climate) with halberds and scimitars, into a twisting passage roofed with murder holes, which finally opens into the courtyard of the citadel. Facing the courtyard is the palace of the admiral of the corsairs behind a portico of swirling columns, flanked by the temples of Yervaar on the right and and Tulka, the local goddess of love and war, on the left.

The Temple of Yervaar is a gigantic cube seemingly carved from one immense block of basalt, with one square doorway topped with the sigil of Yervaar, leading into a dark passage beyond which nothing can be seen from outside. Directly in front of the door is a smaller block of basalt, carved to serve as an altar where hapless humans are sacrificed to Yervaar.

The Temple of Tulka is less forbidding, a dome of gold on a round shrine with delicate fluted columns at several doors. Its walls inside and out are carved in exquisite detail with the exploits of Tulka, both erotic and martial. Several side chapels have small altars to receive personal offerings --some of weapons or prizes taken from the foe by the women corsairs who count Tulka as their patron, others of shimmering silks, gleaming jewels and odoriferous perfumes offered by those who hope to win the favor of Tulka's priestesses, famed for their beauty and skill in the arts of lust.
