Hello, I'm an half-elf farmer. Before we were kidnapped, I used to keep goats and sheep at my farm.
Are we supposed to create a character sheet? If so, Man in Black, then please unlock it for the players.

I still can't access the character sheet in "Character details".
You as GM have to go to the GM menu, then click "edit character sheets" and then "Lastly, you can toggle whether the character sheets are editable" - click on that one and make all character sheets "user editable".

Sometimes these old games make my brain hurt.  Pick a secondary skill that matches your character's background and a complimentary NWP.  It won't work at full efficiency until you get an official class.  You may attempt to use any kind of weapon, skill, or other non-magic ability.  Depending on how things shake out, you might end up with it.  Your class or classes you end up with depend on your actions in the game.  This could break the rules, but these are unusual circumstances. A human could be multi-class for example.  No, there won't be any paladin/thief.  There are still some restrictions.  When determining such things as alignment and some classes, actions speak louder than words.  Be true to your characters, but feel free to experiment a little try different things.  If it looks like you may qualify for several different classes when the time comes, you don't have to take them all.  If you have fighter and thief qualities but choose to focus on fighter, you don't keep thief skills and abilities.

Re: OOC

Apologies.  I've been working under the assumption that everyone knows how to play AD&D.  So these are the very definition of old school.  The original school.  Don't make any assumptions base on any one else's rolls or rulings.  The rules are not intuitive.  Thief and assassin skills are rolled with 1d100.  Non-weapon prof. is rolled with 1d20.  You want low AC and high HP.  I'll start putting some basic rules up somewhere around here for those not in the know.  If you have any questions, just ask.  Myself, and I'm sure other experts in the group, will be happy to answer them.

Well I'm taking a note from future editions and letting people bleed out rather than just die.  You can go to negative Con before needing a high level cleric.  Or a druid for a reboot.

*Edit
Good thing I brought that rule up before making rolls or we would be saying bye to Jory too early.

So I guess I forgot to post that.  I can be horribly absentminded.  Please don't be afraid to ask because 'I forgot' comes out of me all too often.  It's why I can't complain about my wife nagging me.  ;)

So, chains are a basic -4 non-prof/improvised 1d3 damage.  The clubs are -1 if you are proficient, just plain -4 for non-prof.  It doesn't matter if they are crappy clubs.  It's still just the non-prof penalty.  1d6 damage.

In my past experience of AD&D, 1st and 2nd level characters were just cannon fodder.
They died 90% of the time and were replaced with new ones.
After a few deaths, you finally got lucky and had a character who survived to level 3.
Treasure was so high that you could pay for 'raise dead' at that level.
In this game, we're not even level 1. We're less than cannon fodder.

That doesn't mean he KNOWS him.  Deniv is a bit of a loner, used to meeting and talking to a lot of people in the tavern, but most are just passing through.  When you work a restaurant, you only get to really know just a handful of your regulars, even if you know all of them by name.  Plus, he just tried unsuccessfully to save his friend, and he injured himself in a fight.  His mind is a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

I think I'm actually going to have to quit. I've been trying to keep up with things, but life has me pretty busy right now. I'm having to quit a couple of my newer games. I'm sorry to do this and hope the game continues to go well, but I feel like by the time I get caught up on everything I barely have time to post anything worth much. Luckily you have a pretty good cast here and everyone should have some good times. I just wish I had more time to continue with you guys.

Is there a consensus of a plan?

As for picking them off with the crossbow, that not likely.  Given the non-weapon proficiency penalty and the rate of fire of 1 every other round we it would take almost an hour to shoot them all, if I don't miss.

No.  Combat is a lot more general in AD&D.  Heck, a round is a full minute.  The best that can be done without magic is positioning.  Maybe some creative uses of unarmed combat, but against armed opponents it's really risky.

Is it possible to have loved and been disappointed by something at the same time?  I'm going to say a little more in a spoiler just in case.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
I had to temper my disappointment with the knowledge that the EU and prequels had spoiled me.  That allowed me to enjoy it more.  Yeah, it felt like being robbed of a pay-off with Snoke and Rey and other questions from Force Awakens, but then there wasn't even so much as a name given to the emperor in the original movies.  Nobody had an extended back story or extensive connections until after they started pumping out novels.  So, leaving out the fact that I went into the theater looking for answers, I really enjoyed what we were given.

My PC has been updating for the past two hours.  I don't have access to all my materials at the moment.

now now Jory - we do not want any character dying.

I am making sure I/Lam knows who is in which room just to start then can post what Lams best though on a strategy is.

Yes, Lam will try to plan out of the room he is in either a surprise attack rushing into the hallway or a surprise back attack when they attack your room or an ambush style attack if they open our door first.

I think we may make a sound in our room possibly to draw them all the way down to us past your room but I am not sure that falls into a surprise attack scenario.

But no I hope no one dies and we all can live long and prosper :)

I assume that this rule for attacking from the rear applies:
quote:
Characters attacked from the rear do not gain their Dexterity-based Armor Class bonus, and their attacker gains a +2 bonus to his attack roll. There might also be penalties if the optional Shields and Weapon Frontage rule is used.

According to the 2e rules, there's also a +1 bonus for attacking a surprised defender.

Good question.  They get no actions so you still have their back.

I figured one surprise segment would be all you would need.  If that die roller is all low misses again, we're going to a new roller.  Misses are to be expected, but it's getting ridiculous around here. Haven't seen anything like that in any other game here.

Re: OOC

So everyone will be level 1.  I'm going to PM your strongest classes.  Remember, the normal rules of multi-class and race don't apply here.  Why?  Because I think it makes it more interesting.  I'm also not sticking to traditional weapon proficiencies.  After all, how your characters have become what they are is due to their experience and not going off for tradtional training.  That doesn't mean you can be a fighter/magic-user/thief/cleric/monk/assassin.  ;)

This is my first time running this adventure.  I like the premise, but I feel it needs more fleshing out.  Were I to do it again (which I likely will), I'll add more events and opportunities for classes and alignments.  Once we reach the end, I'd be happy to hear any opinions on the adventure.

Once we reach the end of this module, I'd love to continue with this group.  I have some ideas, but that can wait until later.

I'm still going through my notes and threads to have the most information available to make a decision.  I'm trying to get it all done this afternoon.

Re: OOC

Ok, I think everyone is covered.  If you didn't hear from me, let me know.  Everyone attempted thief stuff, though some more than others.  This adventure definitely needs more meat.  Most everyone has alignment leanings.  Anyone could further develop a solid alignment through further actions or just pick one.  Only two characters (I think) used the same weapon in more than one combat, not that there were many combats.  Pick your favorite weapon to be proficient in.  You can work on more up to your class limit.  Also, everyone add 1 to your Prime Requisite.  If you have more than one, pick one.  If you have a stat below the class minimum, raise it to the minimum.  Raise your HP to max for first level.  Consider your characters to still be in training mode.  Magic-users will need to spend time memorizing spells but may use magic items normally.  Clerics can pray for spells as needed up to their daily limit.  Athena is Lawful Good, so any followers need to strive to be lawful and/or good.

If my interpretations don't fit yours, we can discuss it.

Howdy from grandparent land.  :D  Everyone is alive, well, and happy.  Most of my free time has been spent with our kids and granddaughter.  It's been pretty great.  They've been settling in and we've been catching up stuff around the house.  My goal now is to get on at least an hour every evening to keep things going.  I may miss some here and there, but I love this stuff too much to give it up.

I need to apologize.  I'm not quitting, but I am having something of a health crisis right now.  One ear went haywire in an instant.  It's messing me up real bad.  Nearly every aspect of my life is being affected by it in a landslide of symptoms.  I'm at the point where I should be expecting improvement if there is any to be had, but so far none.  Once I adjust to my situation, I hope I can post more frequently.  There's still more specialists to see.  If you're the praying type, I could really use it.  Thank you.

Thanks.  The hard part is learning to deal with this.  It's not likely to come back.  Certainly not 100%.  Still praying for a miracle but trying to get back to something of a normal existence.  Can't just roll over and give up.  I'm going through each game bit by bit for as long as I can in order.  It really depends on how I sleep.  That's what make it hardest to post.  So damn tired since this makes it so hard to sleep.  That compounds with the affect the ear problem has on my focus and concentration.  I still go to my IT job every day (ok, mostly) and come home with some serious brain fry.  If that makes any sense.

Re: OOC

I'm feeling mostly back to normal these days.  Still have a little trouble in crowds and some social situations.  Work suddenly became stupid busy.  They pulled local admin from all accounts early last week.  At least they were proactive about letting everyone know ahead of time and allow people to apply for a local admin account for special needs.  (Not that kind of special needs.)  But of course there was no testing ahead of times so when everyone was attempting to add their LA account to their PC, they learned it was broken.  For everyone.  For all software.  Our call volume and email went through the roof.  Of course they let about 10 people go the week before.  And four people have quit this week.  It was fixed Tuesday afternoon, but of course we had to do most of the fixing for every affected individual.  I don't know if it is Software Center from Microsoft or just our implementation of it, but I hate it.  On the plus side, lots of extra hours on the paycheck.  Downside, I have been coming home mentally fried.

Let us see....
My oldest son, who doesn't like camping, swimming, shooting sports, exercise or sports of any kind, just swore his Oath of Enlistment into the Marines Tuesday; my steodaughter played clarinet in a school concert last night, and was much better in the short time she's been playing (just this year) than I ever was when I tried to play the trumpet; newer dryer isn't working, so I have replaced wire, socket, now looking at replacing a circuit breaker, which I have never done before.

I'm also learning to do new things as the house breaks in new and interesting ways.  I spent one Easter on you tube trying to fix a broken toilet flange.

Yeah, when we took over the in-laws' house, we had to completely re-do both bathrooms and the kitchen.  The house had been built in the sixties and was well used.  Our new house is more recent, 90-something, but previous half-assery meant a near total tear down in the bathroom.  The shower had been leaking for some time and seeping under the vinyl.

I'm finding that with the CORVID-19 Self-Isolating thing that is going on, it is a time where this community can help each other out.

When we can't go out, at least we are here.

I have a strong suspicion that China isn't telling the whole truth about numbers though.  They were even denying it existed to start with.  No way they've only had a few deaths in main population centres outside of Wuhan's Zone.
