Re: OOC

Apologies.  I've been working under the assumption that everyone knows how to play AD&D.  So these are the very definition of old school.  The original school.  Don't make any assumptions base on any one else's rolls or rulings.  The rules are not intuitive.  Thief and assassin skills are rolled with 1d100.  Non-weapon prof. is rolled with 1d20.  You want low AC and high HP.  I'll start putting some basic rules up somewhere around here for those not in the know.  If you have any questions, just ask.  Myself, and I'm sure other experts in the group, will be happy to answer them.

Well I'm taking a note from future editions and letting people bleed out rather than just die.  You can go to negative Con before needing a high level cleric.  Or a druid for a reboot.

*Edit
Good thing I brought that rule up before making rolls or we would be saying bye to Jory too early.

Re: OOC

What is our non-proficiency penalty? -2,-3 or -5? I see people rolling at -1 and -3 so I'm guessing -2, but I would be wrong.

Re: OOC

So I guess I forgot to post that.  I can be horribly absentminded.  Please don't be afraid to ask because 'I forgot' comes out of me all too often.  It's why I can't complain about my wife nagging me.  ;)

So, chains are a basic -4 non-prof/improvised 1d3 damage.  The clubs are -1 if you are proficient, just plain -4 for non-prof.  It doesn't matter if they are crappy clubs.  It's still just the non-prof penalty.  1d6 damage.

Re: OOC

Thanks for letting me live just yet. I saw you rolled 7 for damage. That would mean I am at -3? But in the post you wrote -1.

Re: OOC

By the way, because of his drunkenness, Halfric's dexterity might be lowered to such a low value that his AC goes up by 1 or 2.

Re: OOC

For some reason I was thinking 6 hp.  -3 would be correct.

Re: OOC

In my past experience of AD&D, 1st and 2nd level characters were just cannon fodder.
They died 90% of the time and were replaced with new ones.
After a few deaths, you finally got lucky and had a character who survived to level 3.
Treasure was so high that you could pay for 'raise dead' at that level.
In this game, we're not even level 1. We're less than cannon fodder.

So I suggest Jory dies and I start with a new character.

Re: OOC

If you wish to roll a new character, that's fine.  Raises the stakes of the story.  If you do, your new character will wash up on the beach no too far from the ship.  You'll be one of the slaves taken up to row when the original rowers were washed overboard by the storm.

Re: OOC

I'm now posting as a new character Jory Ranglore, a hunter from the island of Highport. He was a slave on the pirate ship too and was put at the oars. He was washed from this ship by the storm and thrown on the shore.

Re: OOC

Considering those reactions, I'd say it worked perfectly.  Don't worry.  It's not meant as pun-ishment.

Re: OOC

To answer Daniv's IC question, look at what I wrote here in OOC earlier:
Jory Ranglore is a slave who was in the slave hold with you and who was taken to row on deck, at the oars, and swept off the ship by the storm; so you already know Jory Ranglore :)

Re: OOC

That doesn't mean he KNOWS him.  Deniv is a bit of a loner, used to meeting and talking to a lot of people in the tavern, but most are just passing through.  When you work a restaurant, you only get to really know just a handful of your regulars, even if you know all of them by name.  Plus, he just tried unsuccessfully to save his friend, and he injured himself in a fight.  His mind is a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

It still shows you as Jory Longarm.LOL
