I. In the Hold

Tath gratefully accepts the keys and unlocks his manacles, "Thanks Daniv."

Following suit along with the others Tath searches for a suitable club or a decent section of chain to use as a weapon.

Rebeccah hugs the man that unlocks her manacles.  "I'm so happy I could almost cry.  I would rather die out there than stay chained to whatever fate awaited me as a slave.  I shudder to think of the horrid things I would have to endure."  She shivered as a gust of frigid air blew through the hold.  "I hope there is shelter near by.  I don't want to spend another second in this prison."

He accepts the hug with a bit of hesitancy.  Right now, shelter and fresh water are the least of our worries.  Keeping water it is a bigger concern.  So is warmth and food.  He looks around the remains of the hold.
If we find some of the bowls or buckets they used to brings us that nasty gruel, we can use those to catch rainwater.  He reaches up to tug on his ragged shirt.  If we can find more of these, we can use them to stay warm, or we huddle together.  I think our best bet is to stay here until this storm blows over.  Maybe a couple of you bigger guys could try to break that door open so we can see if there are any supplies we can use.
Still holding his manacles, he grips the end of the chain and gives the manacle end a whirl.  He would prefer a dagger or a knife, but, in a pinch, it could be used as a makeshift flail.

Looking about Tath heads for the stairs up on deck, "Most of that plan is sound Deniv, but I wouldn't advise staying on the ship longer than we have to. If the storm gets worse or the tide rises the ship may be dragged back out to sea or be smashed against the rocks."

Deniv looks thoughtful for a moment.  You have a point.  But, going out in that storm, you have a good chance of getting lost, getting washed out to sea, or just getting hurt or killed.  Visibility isn't good out there right now.  Or best bet is to stick close to each other and use what shelter we have until we can't any more.  We can take it to a vote if you want.

Jory had listened t the conversation and now added:
"I agree with Daniv, though I'm not worried about visibility so much, as about the cold. If you're wet and cold in a storm, you risk being cooled so quickly that your body can't keep up. You'll die within an hour. So best wait till the storm abates and it becomes dry again."

Sal looks at the ones discussing whether to stay or to go. On the one hand, it was the only place that they knew of that they could have shelter from the storm, and yet the storm might take the ship away from its perch on the shore. it was pretty much a tossup, as far as sal was concerned, which meant the gambler didn't have fear. Before we decide one way or other, we should at least take a look outside the ship. Get a better look at how damaged the ship is, and what potential cover there might be on the shore. Then decide. He shrugs, still rubbing his wrists to try and get the feeling back into them. He, too had kept hold of his chain for a weapon, preferring it to the makeshift clubs to be found. he gets up and walks over to the hole torn in the bow, peering up to see if it was possible for him to climb up to get to the deck.

Daniv looks around the hold but doesn't find any kind of bucket or other receptacle.  When the storm hit, they stopped bringing food down.  The only thing to be found here is wood and chains.

The chains are usable as weapons, but barely so.  (-4 to hit, 1d3 damage)

Sal takes a look through the gaping hole and sees the half-orc Halfric that had been the cruel pirate in charge of the slaves.  He is walking up back and forth along the beach, singing and staggering in drunken fashion.  He does have a nice cloak and boots, but he's armored in studded leather and carrying a broadsword.  There's no way of exiting without being seen.

It appears that the deck is reachable with a small amount of climbing.  It wouldn't be difficult but not particularly dangerous.

Jory stays in the hold and looks for a rope between the debris on the ground.
He also looks outside to see if it is still raining.
"If everything is wet outside, I suggest you use a rope to climb on deck, as the wood of the ship might be slippery" he says to Sal.

Jory gets a bit frustrated as he feels hungry and helpless here in this awful slave hold.
He says: "there's no rope, but perhaps you can use the chains if you sling them around something on the deck."

Deniv moves to the gaping hole, feeling the blowing rain begin to dampen his ragged clothing.  Looking out, he sees the drunken pirate, gripping his chain tighter.
One of the pirates is out there, on the beach.  Several of us could go out and attack him.  Or we could lure him in here.  He may have things we can use to survive.  Plus, I admit, that a little revenge sounds good.

Tath looks around, "I'm going to try and climb up on deck and see what I can find. If I make it I'll see about finding a rope to lower down. If by some chance that pirate sees me and heads this way you can ambush him then"

Tath then slowly begins his climb, checking his footing and grip as he goes.

In reply to Man in Black (msg # 51):

Sal curses quietly when he sees halfric pacing up and down the shore, and that there was a path he could climb up but it was still raining and thus very slippery. Any thoughts of stealth were washed away by the storm. He backs away from the hole to say something about the pirate, but the others as joined him in looking out. He was going to suggest that he climb up(putting it as an offer because his health was no longer just his health, he was part of the team now) but then tath started to climb. He shrugs, his decision made for him, and begins to follow tath. There might be more pirates up top, he couldn't let him go alone.

Standing near the gaping hole with the chain and manacles in hand, the lad wishes that he had a knife or a dirk instead.  Working in the kitchen of his father's tavern allowed him to rather familiar with the use of a short blade.

Jory waits for the pirate to enter the hold and says loudly: "You're dead if you think you can fight us all. Now do the smart thing, put your weapons, your armor and your clothes on the ground and start swimming to the next island. For we are free and if you come near us, we'll kill you."

"Mouthy slave!"  The half-orc grins, showing off orcish fangs.  "I'll rip yer tongue out and still profit off yer carcass!"  He draws his sword and staggers towards the ship.  His staggering gait and the knee-high water slows down the pirate as he approaches the ship.

(There is enough room for three people to stand abreast and reach Halfric at the hole.  It's group initiative so everyone post an action.)

Jory was holding the makeshift club and nothing else, he lifted it high so that it was level with his head and he bent his knees a little, so that he could evade the pirate's sword by jumping aside. He was glad now that he had been practicing with a club in the past. The piece of wood he was holding was not a perfect club, but it would do nonetheless.
He was standing to the left as he waited for the pirate to enter the hold. As soon as the pirate entered and came in reach, Jory started to swing his club and to move quickly back and forth on his feet, in order to evade the pirate's sword swings.

Lam noticed that there was room for one more person at the width of the hole in the bow. He rushed forward, as much as he could with his weakened legs, and waited for the foul slaver to reach the group. As soon as he could, he swung the ersatz club.

[17:11, Today: Lam Durus rolled 10 using 1d20-1 ((11)).

I'm guessing that's a miss.]

Lam grunted, disappointed that he did not hit. He knew that the half-orc would be attacking at any moment. The farmer said a quick prayer that he would once again see his loved ones.

Einlain's grip on his club tightened, but as the others rushed into the breech he noticed there was not room for a fourth. As such he moved as close to the fighting as needed to be able to jump in should the three men not be able to take down the pirate. Hopefully that was not the case, however.

Jory was getting into the fight, the tension of it making him very energetic, adrenaline surged through his veins as his first series of attacks had one good hit at the pirate. Jory continued his feet movements while trying to get in another blow to the staggered pirate, by swinging at his right side.
