Cafeteria (OOC chatter)
I heard that the flame boy and ice girl got together and had a steam baby!

My understanding is that character creation is cooperative?

Yes! And I have that idea already. You two are enrolled freshmen. But you haven't started just yet. Cole (your government liaison/mentor) has asked both of you to recruit a fellow meta who discovered his powers during a high school football game.

Cafeteria (OOC chatter)
So far the only powers off the table are invulnerability, super speed, and spider sense. There are only a few ways to actually challenge those power sets.

So first Alan and I will need to work together to figure out our high concept and troubles...

https://fate-srd.com/fate-core/your-character-idea - I have been reading.

quote:
If you don’t, the GM is under no obligation to go out of her way to make the game work for you—she’ll be too busy with other players who made characters that have a reason to participate.

I could have used this lesson as a GM in other games. :)

I should think this resonates with our most recent experience in particular.

Re: Cafeteria (OOC chatter)
With no Cubs to watch anymore, I expect I'll update the threads on PC creation this weekend.

Also - Venture U will be in a renamed city near Las Vegas.  I looked on a map and I thought Caliente (Spanish word for hot) would be the perfect distance away.

I figure if teachers are training budding Human Torches, you want to be fairly far away from major populations.  But I also want to have actual college life - nights out at a bar, going to movies, eating cheap cheeseburgers, etc.  So I need the setting to be near some sort of city.

I'm aiming to set a more optimistic tone in this game.  I'm thinking of the citizens that came out to cheer the Incredibles at the end of the movie.  People, overall, still want their heroes.  They know there are still bad things out there and things that go bump in the night.

But having foils that hate metas are such good villains, I'm sure I'll have a group of meta-haters in here somewhere.

Well, in 2017, who can't believe in a polarized citizenry?

No, that isn't realistic at all. Everyone is happy. Holding hands. Loving each other. No problems here.

OK, give me a few minutes to ditch the kids. It's family weekend, and mom brought the tribe down.

I wouldn't want to get between you and the fam! The rugrats might need some big brothering. When you've worn them out, text me.

BTW: Dig the Richard Hammond!

Okay, to clarify, opening scene we are fresh high school graduates. We need to decide if we have met, met on the plane, or have not met. We can work out skills and powers during this opening scene. I have ideas for skills and powers, but I am not 100 percent and had thought to leave my power in a nascent form through the first scene to get a feel for my character and such.

Correct.  And remember - at this point everything is flexible.  I'm not going to lock either of you in on something if you end up not liking it.  Power, skill, stunt, name, etc.

We're still getting our feet at this point.

Heh - some of our best gaming sessions in the past were when we delved into Shadowrun and none of us knew the rules yet.

Re: Cafeteria (OOC chatter)
I'd be OK with having known one another, but I think we're from different social classes... although, hmm, Mack's parents might have divorced in early high school, which pitched him from the upper-middle group down to 'just scraping by'. That way, he might have once known Hope as more of a peer, and maybe the friendship survived his family's collapse?

That or they were from competing High schools, and since both were athletes, they'd have known each other slightly from games/tournaments/meets? That way we'd know each other, but we wouldn't be joined at the hip as it were.

I'd be OK with either, if they work for you?

Got some bigwigs from Texas coming in this week.  I'll be out of the office on Wed and Thr.  Not sure how early they're going to get her on Tuesday.

So this will be a slow week.  (Which helps since I didn't do as much as I wanted on the game this weekend.)

I am still getting to know Mack, and Hope for that matter, so slow works for me. Plus I am doing the wind-up posts in Amber, so that works on that front too.

Don't mind the occasional dum-dum question as I try to figure things out, please!

Both sound good to me. Since neither of us have a preference, what if we just play out for a bit and see what works better.

Re: Cafeteria (OOC chatter)
I made my way through the FATE core book - seems pretty easy.  Yay!!

I need to see how they tweak for powers.  I'll get some of the game mechanics posted.  Some step-by-step instructions.  But we should be able to hit the ground running.

I'd like to complete our first scenario (this backstory) before opening the doors to a wider cast.  Let's take this game for a test drive first - see how it handles the corners and how quickly it accelerates. :)

I tested the die roller and if you permanently set it to the "fudge" system that will be what we need.

Re: Cafeteria (OOC chatter)
Ah - you'll have to show me how to do that.  I looked at the types of dice you could roll and FATE wasn't an option.

I figured that was no big deal - we could always use D6's.

1-2 = -
3-4 = blank
5-6 = +

Fate and Fudge are the same thing. :) I will show you later.

10:11, Today: Hope Maguire rolled -1 using 4 Fudge dice with rolls of 0, -1, 0, 0.

10:11, Today: Hope Maguire rolled 0 using 4 Fudge dice.

10:11, Today: Hope Maguire rolled -2 using 4 Fudge dice with rolls of -1, 0, 0, -1.  test 2.

10:09, Today: Hope Maguire rolled -1 using 4 Fudge dice.  tesy.
