Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients

You race through the jungle of Atlaia with numerous screeching monkeys following you, creating a true cacophony of noise while you jump over fallen logs, duck under low branches, push wet and leafy plants out of the way and try to evade the arrows and spears of your assailants.

How you managed to anger a huge Nyaman tribe and how these two nubile and barely clad slave-girls ended up in your company is a tale for calmer times. All that you know that now matters is that your destination isn't far and untold riches await you in the valley ahead. You only have to get up that last hill if your two new companions were right...

Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients
Ketei runs through the thick jungle foliage with everything he has in him. Being of such lithe frame you wouldn't expect to have seen the endurance and strength he has shown here. In fact, you mostly see him riding his horse and occasionally walking her, so this is very shocking. His performance drives his companions forward all that much stronger for they surely can't be shown up by this Hyrkanian horse rider.

"Come on, keep up! Just a little further."

He leaps over a fallen log and then quickly ducks under a branch with the fluidity of the wind. An arrow thuds into the branch and Ketei thinks to himself, Not fast enough. Just keep your eyes on the trail and your mind agile and you may just live through this.

Blessed with the speed of a panther, the agile Razuli easily avoided the various obstacles the jungle presented but had to dig deep to make his way up what he hoped was the final hill.

"Damn these accursed jackals keep nipping at our heels." Razuli muttered as his feet carried him. Sweat glistened on the taught tan flesh of the Zamorian, some running down his face Razuli hand swept his hair from his eyes in hopes of seeing something a chance at leaving their pursuers behind.

The two former slaves, Iriska the daughter of a trader from the Kimambi tribe who acts as your local guide and Arithames a Kushite dancer, might lack your physical prowess but without getting weighted down by anything more then a loincloth they nimbly rush through the underbrush with ease and so manage to keep up with you.

When Iriska hears Octavian mention the Shaman she says under breath as the incline raises "Nymlaya see all ancient ruins as holy! Strangers talk about ruins is sacriledge, marks you for death!" before a nearby arrow reminds her to talk less and run more.

As you finally reach the top of the hill you have to suddenly stop before pushing through the last few bushes as you now stand right before the edge of a bluff leading down to a valley surrounded by cliffs. You managed to get a little distance between you and all the angry tribesmen but you don't have much time to enjoy the view as you can hear them getting closer already.
"We have to climb down! This is a holy place for Nyaman! They won't follow! They fear the six ancient kings will eat their souls!" Arithames says in between trying to catch her breath from racing up that hill.
A quick glimpse over the edge hints at a pretty difficult descent. But what other choices do you have?

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
The climb will be a D2 test for now.  If you want to be acrobatic and and jump on a few ledges or small trees growing in the cliff it will be D3 but certainly faster. If want to look around or listen for something specific its D1 due to daylight but be quick about it.

Hearing the native girl's words, Razuli hoped their pursuers were as superstitious as she said. But he also hoped that their fears were not well placed.

Reaching the edge of the bluff rather than climb down the hill Razuli all but lept off the as he plummeted through the airRazuli's well-trained muscles absorbed the force as he managed to plant the landing as he came to the base of the bluff.

"And who's to say they won't steal our souls? Still I'd rather take my chances down there.", Ketei quips as he grabs the vine and uses it to swing down to the next ledge, hopping over to a fallen tree leaning against it and skittering down. He then leaps to another ledge but his footing slips and he tumbles forward, the vine catching most of his fall as he thuds to the ground on his back with the wind knocked out of him but otherwise no worse for wear. He then rolls to the side till he is under a clump of bushes and watches the top edge of the cliff for activity.

The +2 doom were from Razulis complication.

The vines used by Ketei made the check easier but the complication damaged them too much for others to make use of them as well.

Ketei and Razuli are the first to reach the ledge and afford themselves a quick glance over the breathtaking scenery. Below, in the valley surrounded by cliffs on all sides is a large, waterfall fed lake with the remnants of a large stepped pyramid surrounded by numerous small buildings poking out of it.
They both hide and peer up only to see how Arithames falls into the tree while movement can be seen on the top of the cliff as half a dozen Nyaman warriors come into view.

The tribesmen yell and ready their bows to start raining down arrows from above!

Ketei and Razuli can act normally and are hidden for now while Octavian has to finish climbing with a minor action but requires no additional test unless he wants to do another D1 climb check.
Climbing over to the tree is a also D1 Athletics (Brawn) test that can be attempted by Ketei and Razuli.
Otherwise you can attack the 6 tribesmen who count as being in light (2D) cover and at medium range. Character who are not attacking them in return are considered to be in light cover as well.

A high pitched scream can be heard above as Keteis arrow digs itself into a tribesmen who stepped in-front of the elders son to get a better aim at you. Keeling over he falls down into the same tree as Arithames before. With a loud crack a large part of the tree breaks apart and crashes down into the depth together with the wild warrior.

A single well placed arrow manages to strike Ketei but leaves no lasting harm as it bounces off his heavy helmet. The disorienting effect of the impact makes it hard to get a clear target through the underbrush above though and so the arrow sails past its mark.

In one fluid motion Octavian steps out of his cover while the sling swings around, sending the stone upwards and right against the chin of a black skinned warrior. A mean "thud" is all that can be heard before the fierce warrior collapses like a dropped bag of sand.

Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients
Arithames squeezes herself under the protruding rock to keep herself away from harm while trying to see what Razuli is doing. The Zamoran is busy with the examination of the odd skull wall while the rest shoots back at the savages above.

Suddenly a loud rumble and a high pitched  scream can be heard and the next time someone turns around only a shocked Arithames can be seen, pointing at the place where Razuli still was only moments ago.

By may count that first attack misses and so the damage is voided. The second attack hits but does no damage. Is this correct?

I already deducted the necessary successes so the first one should hit due to a rolled 1 providing 2 successes. Does it not work like that? The second attack doesnt do any damage at all...

Ok, I didn't even look at the dice rolls, just your total and D value. I thought your total was the number of successes rolled followed by the Difficulty needed. So he got Success plus 0 Momentum on the damaging hit.

Ok, so Ketai will create Doom to defend both hits (being fair even though I know the one will generate no damage.

17:20, Today: Ketei rolled 9 using 2d20 with rolls of 1,8.  Acrobatics, TN11/F1.
Success plus 2 Momentum... resulting in a successful Dodge and using the 2 Momentum for my next Defend.

17:36, Today: Ketei rolled 46 using 4d20 with rolls of 19,7,12,8.  Acrobatics, TN11/F1.
Success plus 1 Momentum... resulting in a tie (win to the PC unless Doom spent).

Ketei anticipates the retaliation and is prepared to avoid the arrows. He deftly dodges the arrows by moving among the trees as he makes his way toward the sound of the scream. The arrows fall around him and thud into the trees but he remains unscaithed.

While nobody on the ledge has much time to enjoy the scenery its quite obvious that the place where Arithames points at only show a gaping hole down and into the cliff-face with no Razuli in sight.

Could this be the answer to the doom raining from above or is it a trap leading to a short but painful death?

"Where did Razuli go to? If he found an exit we should slip away and avoid these foul-tempered ruffians."

Ketai heads toward the wall where Arithames points.

"Who would have known that they would get so upset when Razuli refused to marry the chief's daughter?"

Ketei searches the area, inspecting the wall and floor where Razuli last stood.

I have no idea if this should require a roll, or if it would even be effective against any attacks. I figure itís better than sitting, and waiting to be picked off one by one

Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients
Arithames watches Ketei quickly uncover a small and dark tunnel going down and into the cliff. The walls seem to be worked very well despite its apparent age and it looks quite slippery to be honest. But why would Razuli vanish into that hole that quickly if nobody pushed him in?

Iriska quickly dashes over to Ketei and ducks against the overgrown wall without exposing herself to too much missile fire but Arithames ends up stumbling badly as one of her legs still hurts from the fall so Octavian has to cover her while helping her up.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
I would say that you can use your shield for the full normal effect when covering someone else instead. Now that Octavian and Arithames are in the open both are viable targets
