Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients

You race through the jungle of Atlaia with numerous screeching monkeys following you, creating a true cacophony of noise while you jump over fallen logs, duck under low branches, push wet and leafy plants out of the way and try to evade the arrows and spears of your assailants.

How you managed to anger a huge Nyaman tribe and how these two nubile and barely clad slave-girls ended up in your company is a tale for calmer times. All that you know that now matters is that your destination isn't far and untold riches await you in the valley ahead. You only have to get up that last hill if your two new companions were right...

Time for some physical exercise!
I want to see a D1 Athletics (Brawn) test from everyone to see if someone falls behind or if other bad things happen.

Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients
Ketei runs through the thick jungle foliage with everything he has in him. Being of such lithe frame you wouldn't expect to have seen the endurance and strength he has shown here. In fact, you mostly see him riding his horse and occasionally walking her, so this is very shocking. His performance drives his companions forward all that much stronger for they surely can't be shown up by this Hyrkanian horse rider.

"Come on, keep up! Just a little further."

He leaps over a fallen log and then quickly ducks under a branch with the fluidity of the wind. An arrow thuds into the branch and Ketei thinks to himself, Not fast enough. Just keep your eyes on the trail and your mind agile and you may just live through this.

14:09, Today: Ketei rolled 16 using 3d20 with rolls of 6,8,2.  D1 Athletics w/1 Doom, TN9/F1.
Success plus 2 Momentum

Thank me for the Momentum pool later. :)

Blessed with the speed of a panther, the agile Razuli easily avoided the various obstacles the jungle presented but had to dig deep to make his way up what he hoped was the final hill.

"Damn these accursed jackals keep nipping at our heels." Razuli muttered as his feet carried him. Sweat glistened on the taught tan flesh of the Zamorian, some running down his face Razuli hand swept his hair from his eyes in hopes of seeing something a chance at leaving their pursuers behind.

In reply to Razuli (msg # 3):

Racing through the jungle, sweat dripping from his chin. Octavian seems in good spirits

"I Swear that old Shaman misinterpreted what I said..."

An arrow whizzes by

"This is not my fault!"

His breath is labored, then again a jungle is not a place for a brigidine overcoat and a heavy helm.

"You know despite the humidity, unstable footing ...

He ducks under a branch

And low hanging branches, this sure beats running for you life in a desert.  Now, that is really miserable...

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
19:11, Today: Octavian rolled 22 using 2d20 with rolls of 10,12.  Athletics 11/3

I also have
Strong back 1: You are a magnificent example of human physical prowess, all-too-frequently abused for this ability. For any Athletics test that generates at least one success, you generate one additional success for each rank of Strong Back. Further, your Encumbrance limit is increased by 1 for each rank of Strong Back

3 successes and I'll put the left over momentum in shared pool

16:43, Today: Rodriguez, for the NPC Iriska, rolled 24 using 2d20 with rolls of 15,9.  Athletics TN9.

The two former slaves, Iriska the daughter of a trader from the Kimambi tribe who acts as your local guide and Arithames a Kushite dancer, might lack your physical prowess but without getting weighted down by anything more then a loincloth they nimbly rush through the underbrush with ease and so manage to keep up with you.

When Iriska hears Octavian mention the Shaman she says under breath as the incline raises "Nymlaya see all ancient ruins as holy! Strangers talk about ruins is sacriledge, marks you for death!" before a nearby arrow reminds her to talk less and run more.

Tale 1: Eyes of the Ancients
As you finally reach the top of the hill you have to suddenly stop before pushing through the last few bushes as you now stand right before the edge of a bluff leading down to a valley surrounded by cliffs. You managed to get a little distance between you and all the angry tribesmen but you don't have much time to enjoy the view as you can hear them getting closer already.
"We have to climb down! This is a holy place for Nyaman! They won't follow! They fear the six ancient kings will eat their souls!" Arithames says in between trying to catch her breath from racing up that hill.
A quick glimpse over the edge hints at a pretty difficult descent. But what other choices do you have?

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
The climb will be a D2 test for now.  If you want to be acrobatic and and jump on a few ledges or small trees growing in the cliff it will be D3 but certainly faster. If want to look around or listen for something specific its D1 due to daylight but be quick about it.

Hearing the native girl's words, Razuli hoped their pursuers were as superstitious as she said. But he also hoped that their fears were not well placed.

Reaching the edge of the bluff rather than climb down the hill Razuli all but lept off the as he plummeted through the airRazuli's well-trained muscles absorbed the force as he managed to plant the landing as he came to the base of the bluff.

Spend three momentum

17:27, Today: Razuli rolled 68 using 5d20 with rolls of 15,3,12,19,19.  Acrobatics 19 5.
17:28, Today: Razuli rolled 20 using 1d20 with rolls of 20.  Acrobatics reroll.

Rolled five successes and returned two momentum to the pool. But also roll a complication and add two doom. :( Sorry guys was hoping to at least break even and more likely grow the pool.
-1 Momentum
+2 Doom

Looking back toward the bluff, the Zamorian thief's quickly looked for a place to hide as he waited for the others. Given their pursuer's numbers, if they did keep coming a well-timed ambush might be their only chance.

In reply to Rodriguez (msg # 6):

Ketei breaks out of the bushes and jolts to a sudden stop, struggling to maintain his balance as he teeters on the edge of the precipice. He quickly glances around, looking for some vines that he can tear or cut loose to assist in the descent.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)

19:41, Today: Ketei rolled 22 using 2d20 with rolls of 15,7. Survival, TN11/F2.
1 Success

Hopefully that lowers my difficulty.

19:49, Today: Ketei rolled 38 using 4d20 with rolls of 2,10,6,20.  Acrobatics w/2 Momentum, TN11/F1.
3 Successes with Complication (add Momentum to pool if difficulty was lowered for vine)

"And who's to say they won't steal our souls? Still I'd rather take my chances down there.", Ketei quips as he grabs the vine and uses it to swing down to the next ledge, hopping over to a fallen tree leaning against it and skittering down. He then leaps to another ledge but his footing slips and he tumbles forward, the vine catching most of his fall as he thuds to the ground on his back with the wind knocked out of him but otherwise no worse for wear. He then rolls to the side till he is under a clump of bushes and watches the top edge of the cliff for activity.

Iriska nervously looks back before taking the same way down as Octavian, following his lead with precise steps and a sure grip.

Arithames takes a moment to look over the valley as if looking for something before she tries to find her own way down. She makes good progress at first but then a stone breaks loose and she falls! Her surprised cry is interrupted by a thud as she crashes into a tree that was growing on a small ledge below.

As Razuli saw the nubile Arithames struck by the rock and then tumble to the tree. Reversing direction, Razuli headed back to try and help her. He was unsure whether she still lived but was unwilling to let her fall into the hands of their savage pursuers if she still breathed life.

The +2 doom were from Razulis complication.

The vines used by Ketei made the check easier but the complication damaged them too much for others to make use of them as well.

Ketei and Razuli are the first to reach the ledge and afford themselves a quick glance over the breathtaking scenery. Below, in the valley surrounded by cliffs on all sides is a large, waterfall fed lake with the remnants of a large stepped pyramid surrounded by numerous small buildings poking out of it.
They both hide and peer up only to see how Arithames falls into the tree while movement can be seen on the top of the cliff as half a dozen Nyaman warriors come into view.

The tribesmen yell and ready their bows to start raining down arrows from above!

Combat!
Ketei and Razuli can act normally and are hidden for now while Octavian has to finish climbing with a minor action but requires no additional test unless he wants to do another D1 climb check.
Climbing over to the tree is a also D1 Athletics (Brawn) test that can be attempted by Ketei and Razuli.
Otherwise you can attack the 6 tribesmen who count as being in light (2D) cover and at medium range. Character who are not attacking them in return are considered to be in light cover as well.
