Greetings Shayock, Pyrus and Blake, and welcome to Star Wars: Echoes of the Past! This is the OOC thread in which we can hammer out character specifics and any other details we might want to.

Note that all of you have GM access at this point, since it is easier while creating your characters, so you won't need to keep asking me for GM permission to edit character sheets, etc. I'll probably change you back to Player access later, to give you a more immersive player experience.

Nice! :) I don't have a biography yet, but I can work on that later. Thank GOD I squeezed in getting this portrait of Shayock before the rpol dev who edits portraits retired.

To answer an important PM question here for everyone else to see; The way we do Free-form is *usually* dice-free. Characters are usually competent, but can fail when it is cinematically appropriate (Or at random occasions if a player feels like it). The harder the fight, the more it makes sense for the players to describe just how much danger they are in.

The occasional decision dice is used once in a while (Mitts, Blake and I have been toying around with a super simple dice system). It could be very helpful for deciding harder combat (like boss fights or sub-boss fights).

Nice map, of course! That's the first time I noticed the Game Map feature! O.o Nifty!

Thanks for having me along.

Yeah, we're all familiar with the quirks of "You know, it would be faster if I just gave you all GM tags" when it comes to things like Roll20 too.

As for RPOL character sheets, I take it this is a "Hide your sheets" style game then?

I admit that normally we've skipped over that section entirely and just wrote up sheets in the Character Description section.  While that does mean clicking on people's names brings it up, and no juggling menu buttons, it also means everyone can see it.

Some people like that, but I've also seen the full visibility considered as much, or more, of a problem than being allowed to create/edit it without GM permission. So I'd go with what's more comfortable for you.

Blake details wise.  I'm figuring on seeing how Shayock's set up or preferences turn out, to make things go smoother on the "How did he end up where he is at game start" front.

Though Blake's early life defaults are often "Adopted, well meaning if otherwise distant Nameless Backstory Parent mistakes Miraluka species for 'Kid don't got eyes, let's fix that' and hey it worked out".

Pyrus' original character design is based off this picture:

As for creating a custom race just so I can play a baby dragon?  Eh.  I'd sooner go with, "The universe is full of mysteries.  Baby lava dragon.  It's mysterious where it came from."

Shayock: Haha, I know the feeling about that rpol dev retiring! I used to upload 4 pictures a month (using three inactive friend's accounts, since I was limited to 1 per account) and these days I don't know what to do!

Cool, let's make this a dice free quest, and if we get to a boss fight or similar, we will work out what to do there :)

Yep, the Game Map is a great feature, and you can have several other maps too. Sometimes I upload pictures of characters there if I really can't find the right portrait, but links to deviant art and similar things works just as well.

Blake: Since we will be playing free-form, I guess there isn't much trouble with seeing people's character sheets, however sometimes it is kind of cool to be able to post private text to characters regarding if they see something the others don't, or if they have something that relates to their backstory which other characters might not know.

But I think for this quest we will all just be getting used to each other and to our characters, so no real reason to be too secretive with each other. We can role-play our characters not knowing things, even if we as the players know.

As far as Blake goes, how about he has no memory of his early life and how he acquired his cybernetic eyes, but he has had them since the earliest he can remember. Perhaps the person responsible, as well as his past can be revealed as the quest progresses?

Pyrus: Looks cool! Yep, let's go with a similar thing as Blake's eyes, Pyrus doesn't know his homeworld, and no one has ever seen his species before.

A few questions: What is Pyrus' intellectual level? Is he similar to a human adult? Is he more like a child? Or is he more like a dog or a cat (or rather, a Rancor or a Massiff)?

All: Do you have any preference for how you all start the game? I was thinking it might be cool to have you all waking up somewhere where you can't remember how you got there, and you don't know each other, but you have to work out where you are and how to escape. Otherwise if you would prefer to start in a cantina, all friends, that works too. I'm flexible :) What do you guys think?

Sounds good.

Pyrus is varying degrees of intelligence depending on the setting, sometimes able to talk, other times not, but always understands what the people around him are saying.  For Star Wars, what might be fun is that for the first scene he speaks his native tongue, but the audience doesn't get any English subtitles.  After that the language barrier gets worked out.

Preference for starting is that the characters do not all know each other.  Whether that involves amnesia or not... eh?  I'd sooner a coincidentally at the same place just before something dangerous happens.  For example: characters all on a shuttle ship when a micrometeor hits an engine.  Pilot bumps his head or something and is unable to pilot the ship.

As for the origin of Blake's Cybernetics, I'd be okay if he was unsure how he STARTED with them as a child.  But a combination of years passing and his own nature would mean nothing is left of the originals.

What with the desire for upgrades, and the common sense of "I'm not leaving something in my skull when I have no idea how it got there."  Though he'd have the original eyes and insert framework in sealed storage. Harder to track down manufacturers and other trails by written notes and memories compared to a physical sample.

Hmm, now I'm thinking of Hotshots quotes.  Though I expect the end result would be closer to my own usual take, somebody thinking "That's a waste of perfectly good eye sockets!"

Join up wise I'll go for whatever Shayock and Pyrus prefer, as I consider the paradox of "Wish you had your own a ship to keep all your stuff, then wish you didn't because it's always a pain in the ass."

Flashbacks to all the 'your ship/borrowed ship/passenger ship crashes openings'. With special guest star 'Parking, maintenance, and required plot device purchases are higher than the party's combined net worth.'
