The Town of Silverwood

Silverwood is a large town of approximately 1500 adult residents built where the Old King's Road (east to west) crosses the Ashel River (which flows north to south). By far the majority of residents are human, with a sizable minority of dwarves (around 250 adults) and gnomes (100 adults) in town. There are a handful of other races. To the north, a half day's easy walk, is the halfling hamlet of Honeyhaven (population around 100 adults) and it is not unusual to see visitors from Honeyhaven in town. To the southwest, in the Black Woods, is the elven clanhold of Caer Cliodna (around 75 elves and a dozen or so half-elves), who tend to be standoffish and rarely visit town. Most of the town elves and half-elves, like the few dragonborn, are migrants from other areas or temporary residents. The town serves as a trade hub for river and land merchants, and has a few local industries, as well as farming.

Politics:
Silverwood is part of the Barony of Jadarfold in the Kingdom of Chesaria. Baron Gusorio is a retired adventurer. His castle is two days' march east along the Old King's Road. Sir Constantus, a King's Knight, is Lord Mayor of Silverwood under the Baron. He lives in Axehaven Manor just south of the town walls. Constantus is a stern but fair ruler, and serves as a broker for the sale of magical items to the wealthier residents of town.

Constantus speaks in Dark Green

Carlonus, the Guard Captain, keeps the peace in town. He is well respected, and tempers the sometimes harsh edicts of the Lord Mayor.

Carlonus speaks in Brown

Tallenhauser, the town Reeve (tax collector), also serves as Treasurer. Adventurers wishing to secure their loot in the town vaults must pay a 10% tax on all coinage deposited. Jewels and magical items can be stored in the town vault for a flat 10gp per item fee, payable upon deposit.

Tallenhauser speaks in Sea Green

Points of Interest:
Silverwood Trading: The place to shop for hunting, mountaineering, dungeoneering, and general adventuring supplies. Relf Bluetooth, the only half-orc in town to run a business, is also a former adventurer and likes to tell a good tall tale about the Great Dungeon.
Goods Available: All normal gear, leather armor and shields, ammunition, swords, spears, maces and daggers. Sometimes has unusual weapons like bolas, nets and throwing hammers.

Relf speaks in Blue

The House of Gold: Arvan Hasrel, a dwarf, is the local jeweler and money changer. He will pay cash for jewelry and gems for a 3% commission, and will offer short term loans of up to 500gp at 5% interest, payable within 3 months.
Services Available: Exchanging gems and jewelry for cash. Sells jewelry and gems to those wishing to avoid carrying heavy bags of coin.

Arvan speaks in Yellow

Temple of the Sun: Sister Clarion is the High Priestess of the Sun, and lesser priests and priestesses of the Moon and Zodiac can be found here.
Services Available: Healing for 1gp per hit point cured. Other spells cast cost 100gp times level squared. Curse removal generally requires a service to the temple in addition to the fee. Clerics and cavaliers may purchase scrolls for 100gp per spell level.

Sister Clarion speaks in Goldenrod

Rupert's Tower: The local wizard Rupert lives in a ramshackle old stone home with a 40' tower on the side. Most of the local magicians apprenticed under him. The better sort of folk in town look down on him, but he is a sage and scholar in addition to his magical abilities.
Services Available: Sage (researches lore) for standard fees. Spells cast cost 100gp times level squared. Magic items identified for 100gp per item. Magic-users, illusionists and bards may purchase scrolls for 100gp per spell level.

Rupert speaks in Purple

Weaponsmith: Justarin Smalls and his staff of smiths and armorers craft weapons and metal armors. The town guard and active adventuring population keep him busy, but he usually has any armor needed available, although fittings and adjustments may take a few days. Most common weapons are kept in stock (swords, spears, axes, maces, war hammers) and less common weapons can be commissioned and usually finished in one or two weeks.
Goods Available: Metal armors and shields, all types of metal weapons.

Justarin speaks in Blue

Bowyer: Avella Martine crafts bows, crossbows, and ammunition. Her father is a retired silversmith, and can create silver ammunition and silver daggers on commission (usually takes 2-4 days).
Goods Available: All bows, crossbows, slings and ammunition, including silver ammunition and silver daggers.

Avella speaks in Rose

The Grey Friars Monastery: The monks who live in this walled cloister are brewers, crafting fine wine, ale, mead and whiskey. They also have an alchemist, Brother Holger, who can brew magical potions and a private library where arcane research can be performed.
Services Available: Alcoholic beverages. Alchemist (standard fees and time to copy or brew potions) by commission. Library access is 50gp for membership, and 10gp per day of research (first day free with membership).

Rector Ringenberg, Brother Holger, and all Grey Friars speak in Gray

Trade Bazaar: Out of town merchants ply their wares here. While there's no guarantee anything will be available, any item that adventurers may want to buy could show up here. This is the only place to sell unwanted magical items aside from the Lord Mayor's brokering service. It is also the only place to purchase illusionist scrolls.
Goods Available: Potentially anything, but the rarer the item, the less likely it will be found here, of course.

The Grotto: Along the river, in a quiet north end of town near the dwarven neighborhood, is a grove of trees and a well-tended grotto. Toutates is the High Druid who tends the shrine, and provides magical services as needed.
Services Available: Healing for 1gp per hit point (druids and rangers half price). Other spells cast cost 100gp times level squared. Druids may purchase scrolls for 100gp per spell level.

Toutates speaks in Green

The Oak and Eagle: The most popular inn in town, with clean rooms, good food, and entertainment on most evenings. Rumors and henchmen can often be found here. Gretta Valendenier, a middle-aged human woman, runs a tight shop, and always tries to give her patrons excellent service.
Services Available: Room and board: common room 1sp per night, upstairs room (up to 6 people) 1gp per night per person, private room (1-2 people) 5gp per night.

Gretta speaks in Green

The Granite Cup: A tavern run by and for dwarves and gnomes. Also a good place to get rumors and henchmen of the shorter variety. Run by Ivanus the Slow, an ancient, partially deaf dwarf.

Ivanus speaks in Purple

The Westgate Inn: Just across the Ashel River outside of town, this inn's clientele is of the seedier variety. Adventurers who return from the Great Dungeon after dark, when the town gates are closed, often stay here. Some prefer the atmosphere of the Westgate. Viola Wilmuth, the proprietor, can usually arrange for the purchase or sale of items, and the hiring of henchmen who ask few questions and will do whatever is asked of them if the price is right. [It's well known among adventurers that Viola is the head of the local Thieves' Guild.]
Services Available: Room and board: common room 1gp per night, 10gp per night for a room (up to 4 people). Other services by negotiation.

Viola speaks in Lavender
Farley the Fence speaks in Lavender too
Julian Habersham speaks in Royal Red

Other Services: There are of course other shops, merchants, and craft guilds in town but these above should cover most needs of adventuring parties.
