The party members each thank Gretta for the free meal, being sure to tip as if they had paid for their food, unless that's offensive here. OOC: Me and my USA upbringing showing through.

Leon looks at the human and replies, "'Tis true, indeed. Is there anything specific you can tell us about level one of the Dungeon?"

The Stranger rubs his thick mustache and considers. "Now, I ain't never been to the dungeon, but I've heard plenty o' stories 'bout it. I reckon you ain't heard of The Great Pit. Story they told me was it's in the northern part. Goes down several levels, with a bridge across on the first. There was a fella, treasure hunter of some fame so he called himself, who claimed The Great Pit was the fastest way to get to the good treasure. He used a bullwhip to swing down from the bridge to different balconies or somesuch. Another group of kids claimed there was a Hall of the Slain to the south, where the 'rich stuff' as they called it was. Now if you're wondering about what sort of monsters lurk there, well, I reckon Relf Bluetooth or Viola at the Westgate might be the folks to ask."

Leon thanks the gentleman and buys him an ale as thanks. The Whores spend the rest of the afternoon and evening reminiscing about Vir, even though they didn't know him all that well. The catharsis is good for the group and they head to bed for the night feeling much better about life in general.

The next morning, they pick up Airk and Garthmond, and head out, ready to take on the Dungeon again.

In town, Selen sells (well, returns) his only-used-for-one-day-to-and-from-the-dungeon War Horse for 250 gp, and the party buys a new mace for Marlene to replace the one lost during the whole green slime thing, and the party glares at Sandor as he buys a new set of thieves' tools to replace the ones he apparently lost.

Thieves' Tools -25gp 10 enc.,

Mace -5gp,

War Horse +250gp.

"I still say we could lead the horse down the stairs if we were careful..." says Oswald.

"No, we couldn't," say everybody else in the party.

As long as the horse is now sold back, the party buys 1 coil of rope (in case they find another pit), a crowbar, and 6 more torches.

Rope 1gp 50enc

Crowbar 1gp 50enc

Torches 1gp 120enc

Jabez lost his mace, too. Just a reminder.

Relf Bluetooth, the proprietor of Silverwood Trading, chats with you about your delve. When the subject of slime comes up, he nods his bald head slowly. "Green slime is bad news. Keep torches lit, as fire works well on it. Other slimes and oozes have different vulnerabilities. Some you can kill with weapons, some require fire, ice, or lightning to do the trick. Watch out down there!"

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 19):

This discussion buys enough time for Jabez to realize he needs a new mace, too, and he subtracts 5 gold for it from the party treasury.

"I thought of trying the torch," says Bathia to Relf, "but it seemed likely that at least one of us would get turned to slime while we were trying to use it-- and then there'd be more slime to fight, and more, and more..."

[The House of Gold]

We accept Arvan's offer of 630 for the statuette, and divvy it up among the party, paying Airk and Garthmond their daily cost from it. We bid Arvan a cheerful farewell and head out.

[Weaponsmith]

We ask Justin and his staff for plate mail armor for Acidum, and hope to trade in his banded mail for it. If we need to wait a few days, we will. It will give our spellcasters a chance to see if the liquid inside the pewter flask is magical or just wine or something.

[Rupert's Tower, if needed]

We bid Rupert fair day, and ask him if he can identify the liquid in the pewter flask we found.

Just let me know how much all this costs, and if we need to spend a couple nights at the Oak and Eagle, we'll all spend 1 gp per night in the 6-person rooms.

[The House of Gold]

Arvan strokes his long white beard as he examines the statuette. "You know, I think this may be an image of Geryon. I've heard Yeffal was partial to that demon. Of course, we all know it was Yarluap the demon he summoned that ended his reign. Here's your gold. Don't spend it all in one place...unless you come back here to buy jewelry! Ha!"

[Weaponsmithy]

Justarin sizes up Acidum and examines his banded armor. "I'll take it off your hands for 25gp, or reduce the price of the plate by that much. Amounts to the same," the large human man says. "I've got a suit partially completed. I could make the adjustments for you, sir, it should only take five days or so."

[Oak and Eagle]

The party uses a spell and examines the bottle. It is not magical. Would you like to open it, or take it to Rupert?

Leon assures Arvan that when the group is rich enough to look for personal jewelry, that they'll be back.

OOC: What's that Tax on recovered Loot? We'll want to pay that before we head out again. I couldn't find it.

[The Granite Cup]

The party again scrunches into a small huddle in the pub while Gordon takes the pewter bottle over to the bartender, making sure it is as clean as possible before he gets there. Gordon holds up a couple of gold pieces and points back toward the Whores's table.

"Got a question for ya. We found this bottle in the Dungeon, and we know it's not magical. I was hoping you could tells us whether we found a premium brew or vintage, or whether the thing's just gone bad over time. Give's a hand, would ya?"

In reply to The Adventure Whores (msg # 24):

OOC: The tax is only assessed if you want to store your earnings in the town vault (which is safe from theft). If you wish to find your own private place to store your loot, you can do that as well. Here's the relevant section:

quote:
Tallenhauser, the town Reeve (tax collector), also serves as Treasurer. Adventurers wishing to secure their loot in the town vaults must pay a 10% tax on all coinage deposited. Jewels and magical items can be stored in the town vault for a flat 10gp per item fee, payable upon deposit.

[The Granite Cup]

Ivanus the Slow takes the pewter bottle and swishes it around, listening to the contents inside. He checks the cork and the bottom for a maker's mark, but finds nothing. "No clue." The dwarf carefully screws in a corkscrew and pulls at it. When the cork clears the lip of the bottle, a cloud of horrible smelling greenish gas pours out of it and quickly fills the taproom.

Dwarves and gnomes scatter, breaking off their arm-wrestling and drinking to flee, retching at the putrid odor. Ivanus falls to the ground, himself losing his lunch all over the floor behind the bar before crawling to the door.

[assuming you all exit as well...] When Ivanus recovers enough to speak, he glowers at the Adventure Whores. "What was that? Some sort of prank? Don't set foot in my tavern again!"

You notice the smell is sticking to your clothes, quite possibly your skin and hair as well. People passing on the street give you (and the dwarves and gnomes who were present) wide berth.

OOC: Thanks. This had me wondering:

quote:
Tacked to the wall just inside of the door is a notice:
The Lord Mayor announces that the Towne Ransomme is DUE in one month. If any brave souls can donate 250 coins of gold to the town treasury, the normal TAX upon recovered loot shall be waived for that party for one month from date of donation.

[Outside the Granite Cup]

Gordon decides against trying to explain, so he simply shouts out how sorry he is, and the Whores make their way to the Trade Bazaar, trying to offend as few people with their odor as possible.

[The Trade Bazaar]

The Whores keep their distance as Leon shops for soap and more wineskins with wine in them. Then it's back outside the gates to wash off the stench in the Ashel River with as much soap and wine as it takes.

[Trade Bazaar]

Luckily, the trade bazaar is an open-air affair with tents, stalls and carts set up in an open square. The normal crowds give the adventurers plenty of room when their odor becomes apparent. The party buys eight wineskins and several cakes of soap, then goes to the river to wash up. [8gp for the wine, 1sp for the soap]

All cleaned up, the now fresh-smelling adventurers are free to roam around town again without upsetting other townsfolk.

We seem to have plenty of time before Acidum's plate armor is finished. After a night at the Oak and Eagle (1 gp, 5 sp/person), we will get ready to enter the Dungeon again the next day. Same armor, same spells, etc.

Where would you like to try to sell them? You may want to try Silverwood Trading, the Weaponsmithy, the Trade Bazaar, or find a private buyer at one of the local watering holes.

[Weaponsmithy]

Justarin the smith looks at the goblin weapons that the Flames of the Sun brought back to town. He holds up one of the short swords and flicks it with his finger. A dull tone rings from it. "It's not the best quality steel, but it is steel at least. I wouldn't forge weapons from this quality metal myself, but I melt them down and use these for other items. I'll give you 10 gold for the lot of swords. The crossbows and horns, however, I have no interest in."

Re: Around Town in Silverwood

[The Trade Bazaar]

The party heads to the bazaar. It is an open air market, with tents and booths set up in a square surrounded by small shops and kiosks. Merchants from afar as well as local craftsmen sell a variety of goods -- food and drink, tools, clothes of all sorts, household items, spices, books, weapons and armor, and animals.

The party wanders around to all of the weapon merchants, but find none who are interested in buying goblin crossbows. A toy merchant does offer 2sp for each of the brass horns (1gp total if you sell them).

You could try to find buyers for the crossbows among the other customers (i.e. set up your own shop for the afternoon) if you like, or try somewhere else.

[Silverwood Trading]

Relf Bluetooth looks over the crossbows with a critical eye. "Goblin bows, eh? Not the best craftsmanship, but functional. I can pay you 7 gold each, 35 gold total for them. Did you know that a goblin princess has the power to spin straw into gold? Sounds like a cockamamie children's tale, but I've seen it with my own eyes. Oh, and watch out for the Redcap. Rumor has it that it has a nice store of treasure, but it's hard to catch since it can turn invisible."

Any other town business? Or back to the ruins after a night's sleep?
