Khalhim ibn'Sarif:
2) I'm thinking a Wand of Infernal Healing would be a good investment when we're done with this dungeon. Just a thought.

But infernal healing's eevviilll! Our bodies will survive, but don't you fear for our immortal souls?

All told, Dekkhir is actually pretty well equipped to heal the group. He's got 1 more Channel and 3 Lay On Hands still, plus he's got Cure Light Wounds x4 if he absolutely must. Granted if we keep running headlong into traps, that won't last too long, but generally speaking, that's, per day:

  • 4d6 to the entire group
  • 1d6 x 3 to individuals
  • 1d8+1 x 4 to individuals at the expense of spell slots

Which is pretty outstanding at level 1, all things considered.

If you really feel the need to add an evil wand to the mix, we can do that I suppose but he'll almost certainly be quite vocal about his dissatisfaction in your lack of faith in his abilities.

Fear for my soul? Not really. The spell has the Evil descriptor, not the Lawful descriptor, so as a Chaotic Neutral worshipper of the Protean Lords, I'm not too worried. Plus, it's on the spell list for Zahur and Eren, so we could just grab an arcane version and let them do it. If it's really problematic, I'll go donate to the local beerhall in Cayden's name to offset the evil, maybe rescue a puppy or a kitten if need be.

Now, if it is a matter of not upsetting the group's draconic spokesman, that I'm willing to take into consideration. For dragons are haughty creatures, full of pride and power, and I'd rather not upset the one member of the group that might actually have a direct link to the Platinum Wyrm.

Point one still stands. I have the ability to disarm magical traps like a Rogue, but everybody has the capacity to roll Perception for all traps. Which should hopefully allow us to not run headlong into any such further incidents of pin-cushioning.

Re: OOC Thread
I actually did roll everyone's perception for that.  And while Khalhim has the best perception, the odds that all of you would miss are a shade under half (45.6%).  Which, for a trap that can kill the entire party, might not be the best ever.

You might actually be better off if Zahur aided Khalhim on a perception check and Dekkhir aided Eren.  Despite less people checking, Zahur and Dekkhir have almost no chance of making a 20 on a perception check, but can much more easily get a 10 on the aid another check.  And that makes it very likely that Khalhim spots it, and gives Eren a much better chance.  That math is much harder to calculate because there's a bunch of correlated events, but I think it brings the odds of failure down below 40%.  Still not great, I guess.

Re: OOC Thread
Dekkhir's LN, so, uh... doesn't bother him particularly, either - the question was mostly academic. :)

That said, he might be offended by your lack of faith. And offended healers are never really what you want around. THAT said, though, having some other option in case he goes down might be good. It'd be the biggest anticlimax ever if the super over-equipped healer died because of some mundane bump on the head just because nobody could make a heal check and he couldn't roll to stabilize.

So much for the Misfortune reroll. I really hope Dekkhir is far down the hallway as requested.

10:54, Today: Secret Roll: Khalhim ibn'Sarif rolled 13 using 1d20+9.  Disable Device (Misfortune reroll).

Well... We tried. At least (assuming the trap DC adheres to normal increments of 5) it didn't get any worse.

I think, if Khalhim still wants to try to disarm the trap, he gets a cumulative +2 bonus each time he fails to disarm and sets off the trap, because at least he's learned something that didn't work.

So, maximum cheese, but since you detected no magic, you know this has to be a purely mechanical trap, and thus, at some point, it has a limited supply of darts.  With Mage Hand or something else (even a pole?) you could try triggering the trap again and again until it runs out of ammo.

Everyone made it into the room safely so far.

Dekkhir, a week ago:

The kobold follows Khalhim's gaze and picks up on his intentions. "Well... I could patch you up, but I'd need to be able to touch you. However... it looks mechanical, not magical, yeah? Some kind of launching mechanism inside the wall, with a supply of darts to shoot, maybe a reloading mechanism..." He considers the configuration of tubes and the pressure plate. "I'm not as well-versed in the art of trapmaking as, uh, some of my kind, but I've seen a few in my time. It might not reset at all, but if it does... it's got to have a limited supply of darts back there. No telling how large that supply may be, but... perhaps with some careful, controlled, repeated activations, we might just... run it out of ammo?" He grins up at the man, and adds, "I realize it's not the dexterous display of your mechanical aptitude you might have been wanting to give, but it's probably safest, yeah?"

Just sayin'. ;)

Yeah, I'm sorry, family illness came up and I've basically dropped off the face of the earth.

That last post was to me, I'll put up a response.

Re: OOC Thread
So you decided to potentially spoil part of a movie that had just come out days prior on a forum completely unrelated to the movie in question because you just couldn't resist sharing this piece of information to people who in all likelihood either didn't care or actively didn't want to hear it?

Yeah, party foul on that.  I usually get around to seeing movies fairly late because of young kids and a job and all, so I often have movies spoiled to one extent or another, but having people post spoilers in a "public" forum like this...

Re: OOC Thread
I'm going to bow out. For two reasons. First it's a very slow moving game. Second it leaves a bad taste in my mouth the way you guys responded to innocent excitement. A simple 'hey man wish you wouldn't have done that' would have sufficed...especially since I haven't seen it either but being a comic buff and knowing it's a two part movie and the sheer inundation of information flooding the web on it... I already knew what was said...and I'm sure you folks did too.

I dont care to game with folks of that kind if temperament.

Enjoy

In fact, I didn't. I made it a point to read up nothing on the movie before seeing it. I'd been purposefully avoiding places where spoilers were likely to be, and I *didn't* know it was a two-part movie, again because of purposefully avoiding information. So this was news to me, and it completely changed the movie for me, for the worse. I would have loved to not have known this, or, if I had wanted to know, to be able to make that choice for myself, but instead, someone else decided, in a place completely inappropriate for movie spoilers, to take that decision away from me.

I'm not sure when movie ending spoilers days after a movie came out became "okay" purely because "Well, you probably already knew that, right?"

I didn't come in here yelling and fuming and spouting profanity because of this - in fact, I feel that the response I gave was downright cordial compared to how I was feeling (and still feel on the topic).

Re: OOC Thread
I to will be saying see ya later by the way just so you know Eren told me the same spoiler I told you before I saw the movie. Guess what it did not bother me at all I save getting angry for things that really matter. You know getting your like Car stolen, some one you know being hurt, wife cheating, but hearing a movie is a two parter and who's kicking butt half way through is a reason to get angry really. Have fun all I'll choose to do my game with grown ups
