Wyrran sees that the rest of the party presses on, so with the tongue on the side of his lips concentrates and lets fly his other dagger. Unfortunately, it gets wedged on the door before hitting the orcs.
Today: Wyrran Galaeth rolled 3,1 using 1d20,1d4.  Thrown dagger (middle range), Damage.

Argon continues to bat away at unseen forces, or at least that is what it feels like as he is still unable to connect.

Argon rolled 14 using 1d20+3.  Attack.

Smiles' heart quickened as the orcs were withdrawing. "You're not getting away!" She yelled - slamming the nearest orc with her maul. She gritted her teeth. Although she made a hit, it wasn't enough. It wasn't enough to satisfy her.

23:01, Today: Smiles rolled 15 using 1d20.  Attack.
23:02, Today: Smiles rolled 1 using 1d8.  Damage.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Phelan and Smiles burst through the door in pursuit. Phelan skillfully avoids an orc's  parry, her blade cutting into his throat. Blood from his carotid sprays the wall and he falls at her feet with a thud.

Smiles steps over the body and presses her attack on the other orc. He is wide-eyed with panic after seeing all his comrades struck down. He yelps sharply as her maul bounces off the pauldron of his cobbled-together armor, then turns and runs down the corridor.

As this happens, Argon has stepped through the door.

The corridor runs to the south for 50 feet.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Phelan is surprised at the ferocity of Smile's attack. "I may be a bad influence on her..." she thinks to herself with a hint of a grin on her face. Her first impulse is to take out her bow and send an arrow down the passage, then quickly realizes that it is still in the corner with the rest of her gear. Instead she sticks close to Smiles ready to pursue the remaining orc.

With no missile weapon and the orc had a good head start so Argon returned to the scene of the battle and began to rifle through the corpses and their belongings.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

As Phelan approached Smiles, the white-haired girl shook her head, "I'm assuming they mean to regroup. It might be best to let them think we lost 'em and get rid of them all in one go." She flashed a pearly white grin at the thief. There was more blood to be shed today and Smiles wasn't one to run around a dungeon aimlessly for more than once a day. She added on, "'Sides, it might be best for me to pick up my shield and you, your bow."

Smiles pointed back to the group in the hidden room, "Our saviors might not like the fact if we ran off first and then cried for help like damsels." She chuckled - taking a quick adoration at the blood splattered along the walls - before she walked back.

"Heya fellas. Thanks for being our saviors of the day." Smiles grinned - holstering her maul by her side. "A bunch of adventurers looking for a bit of coin?"

On the dead orcs, Argon finds a total of 35 silver pieces and some primitive totem items that might be worth 10gp or so total to the right collector...or might be totally worthless. On the leader he finds two gold nuggets similar to the ones you found on the goblins that attacked the caravan; together they areworth 11gp.

Argon show what he has found to the others and adds it to the party treasure bag. Standing back up he adjusts his gear ready to move on when the others are ready.

It is at this point that Argon spies the sacks and walks over to investigate. Using the end of his sword he checks that nothing is using the burlap as a home.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Phelan returns to where the rest of her belongings are. She is determined not to be caught without her bow again. She carefully checks to see that nothing is missing before she turns her attention to the rest of the party.

"Seems like you showed up just in time but you weren't who we were expecting. You didn't happen to see several others on your way here, a fighter and mage perhaps? When we were attacked one of these filth hit Smiles here on the head and started to drag her off to their lair. The others seemed to have the battle in hand so I came after her. Just as I was about to open the door, the rest of their party came up the passage so I had no choice but to let them take me as well. I must assume the rest of our group was either killed or the orcs retreated not ready to die just yet."

Argon finds that the sacks contain:

2,182 silver pieces
A worn velvet bag filled with 463 gold pieces
Two gold flagons worth 80gp each or 200 as a set
A gold necklace, with a pendant that is an exquisitely crafted replica of a beetle on a leaf

Phelan looks at the loot and says,

"So there is some treasure to be had here. We were lured here with the promise of treasure by a man we met in town. Goes by the name of Halden. I was pretty skeptical at first and after finding nothing but filth and orcs I was certain we had been duped. Perhaps this isn't the fools errand I thought it was."

She rubs her jaw to loosen it after having been gagged for quite some time. She also looks around the room to see if she notices anything she may have missed while being preoccupied with planning her escape from the orcs.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Wyrran approaches the two girls as he collects his two daggers from the field, then firmly engages them when a familiar name pops up:

"Lured, you say? By Master Halden of Morgansfort? Hmm... I would say we rather... chose to investigate these ruins on his behalf and, personally, with High Queen Amalthea's blessing, in order to help with the grim situation around these parts. The sightings of humanoids in these ruins were true as it seems, and we are banking on seeing this expedition through I assume.

As for your other comrades, we have not spotted anything hinting to them, be that for better or worse regarding their fate.

Our own comrade of special skills, Gillfian, was scouting ahead for our party through the ruins, but unfortunately he met with the jaws of a particular nasty wolf and he had to retreat to the base. If we join forces in this, it would be very helpful if a keen-eyed (and -eared) friend could scout for the rest of the party. What say you, damsels?"

Phelan chuckles with a bit of an unladylike snort, "Save the damsels for more genteel company. The name is Phelan. And I'm not so sure about being keen eyed or eared after being caught by those orcs. But as chance may have it we appear to be in your debt.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Examining the necklace closely, find that it is exquisitely made, but see no sign it is magical in nature. Of course, appearances can be deceiving. You know there is a sage in the fort who could give you more information if you wish.

Is there anything else you wish to do before moving out? Through the door to the east is a corridor that runs east for some distance and one that runs south for 50 feet before bending west. You think you saw a door on the east side of that bend.

I'll post a new version of the map today or tomorrow.

"Let us get going I would like to get as much of the dungeon searched before it gets late." He divides up the treasure for transport and get ready to move out.

"Right down here I think" He will let the scout go first and the follow in his own place in the marching order.

"Best let me go first. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some unseen dangers in this place."

Phelan hears no arguments as she takes her place at the head of the group and looks at the two exits.

"Do we head south our east?"

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Are you folks going down the south corridor (the one the orc ran down) or the longer east corridor?

I've put a small map segment of your immediate environs as "Game Map for Group 0." Unfortunately, it's a spoiler for the fact that you're at the northwestern extreme of this level, but c'est la vie. The secret door is the one the party came through to fight the orcs. The eastern corridor continues for at least 50 feet. Sorry I'm not showing that, but I'm a state away from the desktop I normally do this stuff on.

As you can see, the south corridor has a door, which you noticed while chasing the orc.

So:

East?

South, stopping at the door?

South, ignoring the door for now.

Let's proceed on that basis.

The door is plain, stout and has thick coats of varnish that have probably been here for 300 years or more. Phelan finds no traps and hears nothing on the other side when she listens.

How would you like to proceed?
