Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Argon moves further into the room and slashes out at the first Goblin he sees. It is neither elegant or quick, but it bites into flesh and bone.

Argon rolled 19 using 1d20+3.  Attack.
Argon rolled 8 using 1d8+1.  Damage.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

With sword and staff, the adventurers dispatch of the remaining goblins, some of whom decided to retreat, but too late. Their bodies litter the floor. You see that the largest one is wearing a large key on a length of filthy twine tied around his neck.

Message to Argon.

Phelan bends down by the chest, ignoring the dead goblins. "Could be." She looks the chest over carefully. "I'm not finding any traps," she says. "We can give the key a shot, or I can pick the lock."

Rubbing his chin Argon replies, "Lets try the key first and if that does not work you can have a go at it." Argon moves into the other room with the chest and tries to use the key to open it.

Wyrran follows, if only for the amusement. He tries to stay alert but he is eager to glance at the contents of the chest.

The key does fit the lock on the chest. Inside you find 84 cp, 300 ep and silver cloak clasp shaped like a longboat. You think it's worth at least 10gp.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

By your torchlight, you see that their is a wooden door to the north and no other apparent exits. The floor of the chamber is littered with the bodies of the 8 goblins you've killed. You also see a small figure in the northwest corner, bound and gagged, looking at you wide-eyed. It appears to be a male gnome.

Maksim, welcome to the party. If any of you are looting the bodies, sing out. If you're searching the room for anything else (such as secret doors or the like) roll a d6.

Argon had just finished relocking the chest when someones torch illuminated the bond prisoner in the corner. He rises and goes and loosens the gnomes gag, "Well who do we have here ?" he asks.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Maksim flinched as the torch light fell on him. Realizing the torch wasn't in the hands of one of his captors but hopefully in the handoff one his friends come to rescue him. The gnome spoke with quickly and with urgency at first, "Samlor? is that you? How long... You're not Samlor. Thank you. Thank you for killing the goblins. Did you happen to see any others around? I got separated from the rest of my group some time ago..." His voice trailed off as the reality of the situation became apparent.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

As Maksim's eyes adjust to the close torchlight, he realizes that Phelan and Smiles are at in the group gazing down at him.

Both of the women smile. "I'm glad to see you made it, my friend," Phelan says.

I'll continue to NPC Phelan and Smiles for awhile.

It appears that the goblins had been mostly combining their treasure in the chest. Veskard does find that, like the goblins who attacked the caravan, these each have a few electrum pieces and small pouches containing small gold nuggets and/or unrefined gold dust. He also finds a couple of items a bit more interesting than the usual goblin flotsam of string and dried rat parts.

Total treasure from goblin bodies:
27 ep
52 gp worth of gold nuggets and dust

A raven skull covered with with runes that have been charred into it

A belt buckle made of silver, decorated with three stacked waves. It seems to be modeled on the crest of Morganshold. A scrap of leather is still riveted to one end.

"I'm glad to see you made it, my friend," Phelan says.

"As am I, I assure you. I'm Maksim. I was tracking these goblins or they're friends when we got jumped. I was hit pretty hard. Don't really remember much else..." The gnome looks down at his hands then up at the other's faces, "Can I get a hand with these tethers?

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

There is only one apparent exit, a thick oak door to the north. You can, of course, go back through the secret door to the south if you prefer.

Here is a proposed "sneaking" marching order based on the one we developed when Phelan and Smiles joined the party, let me know if you prefer something else. I'm going to post the marching orders in Da Rules so they're easy to find and edit.

Phelan

Maksim

Smiles
Veskard
Wwyrran
Glanduil

Moving to the door Argon looks it over as best as he can. He makes sure not to get in the way should someone else with a required skill set wanted to give it a go.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

You find yourselves in at the southern end of an "L" in a corridor.

The passage goes north 30 feet before turning west, in a bend you're certain leads it to connect up with the corridor section you saw from the room where Phelan and smiles were rescued from orcs.

Thirty feet to the east, the corridor meets a pair of stout, ornately carved double doors. The outer edges of each door are carved in a series of complex, stylized knots, and inside the rectangles bordered by the knots are depictions of two humans. On the left is a muscular man, with a headband and long hair, bearing a spear. On the right is a woman, also with a headband holding back long hair, also with a spear.

The map has been updated. Sorry for the crude editing of the map, but I'm stuck using Canva from my laptop instead of my usual suite. Just a reminder, since it's been so long in our time since you entered the room: You've just exited room 9; the room where you fought the orcs was room 8.

Moving forward towards the door Argon stops about a pit trap away from the door itself and tests the ground in front of him before taking a closer look.

Maksim felt more at ease with his bow back in his hands. Out in the hallway the gnome followed Argon's lead and stopped well back from the double door. Stepping to the southern wall Maksim readied his bow incase anything comes out between the two carvings.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Phelan approaches the door, but about 10 feet away from it she drops to her knees and begins tapping gently on the floor with her dagger. Soon she has reached the door itself, and checks it over carefully. Then she listens carefully. She nods to the rest of the party, takes a deep breath and pushes on the left door. There is a slight creak as the door opens and she peers inside to the darkness beyond. She taps the spot on the floor behind the door as well, then gives a beckoning gesture, stands and steps inside the door.

Wyrran feels a bit safer with the buffer of bodies in front of him, and follows the queue to enter the doors, trying to observe the new room between the hopefully shorter companions.
