The following morning in the guest quarters of the mining camp, Sora has awakened, though he is still a bit groggy. As the cloaked figure returns from the refresher, Bane appears to be filling Sora in on their exploits.

"...and we could find no trace of it anywhere," Bane is saying, "We did look so hard for it..."

OOC: Bane Malar rolled 12 using 1d20+7. Bluff.

Sora frowns, raising a skeptical eyebrow.

OOC: Sora Bulk rolled 14 using 1d20+1. Sense Motive.

"Anyway," Bane continues hastily, "We managed to make our way into the mining facility, which has a turbolift to the Market District. After that we will simply need to make it to my ship, unnoticed."

"Exactly," the cloaked figure agrees firmly, "The question is, how? The area is likely still crawling with the runts and the sock-faces."

"We still have those cloaks..."

The cloaked figure seems to be satisfied by this suggestion.

"Beep-beepity-beep," R5 beeps skeptically from the corner. Bane's work on him, while by no means extraordinary, seems to have got rid of the worst of the rust and grit, and the static in its beeps seems to have disappeared.

"Yes, I admit I don't trust him either," Bane acknowledges, "But I trust in his fear of you and your knowledge of his operations. I doubt he will try anything."

At that moment the lights of the room dim, and a siren begins to wail.

"Beep-beepity-boop?"

Bane shoots the droid what is doubtlessly a resentful glance under his helmet. He does not grace its query with a reply.

"All right," he says to rest of the party, rising, "I looks as if we have officially worn out our welcome."

"That slimy, double-crossing wretch..." mutters the cloaked figure as he snatches his blaster pistol from his nightstand.

Sora, whose lightsaber and blaster have both been traded off, picks up the hydrospanner from the tool kit left for Bane. He then follows the others out of the room.

As the trio and their astromech make their way down the corridor outside, they are met by five utai technicians who come into view at the far end of the corridor, squealing and waddling as fast as they can towards the guest quarters. The reason for their terror becomes apparent a moment later, as three security droids lumber into view a few meters behind them, blasting down the rearmost technician. The remaining four technicians manage to make it to the party hurrying into the guest quarters behind them.

If Bane is grinning it is hidden by his helmet.

Sora glances disapprovingly at the cloaked figure, moving forward, hydrospanner raised.

The droids fire at the party, but their processors do not seem to contain particularly advanced targeting systems. Their blasts strike the walls and roof several meters from any of the party members.

Bane fires back, striking one of the droids in the head and sending it crashing to the floor.

Sora has charged forward, slamming his hydrospanner into the droid's head. The spanner cracks in half, spinning off down the corridor. The droid has a minor dent but appears otherwise unperturbed.

"Blast," mutters Sora as the droid prepares to fire.

Before the droid can fire, a shot from Bane whizzes past Sora's ear, striking the droid squarely in the chest. It collapses with a sizzling noise.

"I suggest you refrain from using improvised weapons in future," he says to Sora.

"Perhaps you could lend me an actual weapon?" Sora replies coolly, gesturing at the unused blaster pistol in Bane's holster.

Bane places a defensive hand on the holster.

"I don't think things are that desperate yet."

Sora does not look impressed, but he shrugs, brushing past Bane and approaching the utai technicians, still cowering behind one of the bunks in the guest quarters.

"We need to get out of this mine," he says, "Do any of you know the way to the turbolift?"

The four wide-eyed technicians stare at him blankly.

"Does our translator feel like translating that?" the cloaked figure directs at R5 after a moment of silence passes.

R5 does not look impressed, but rolls forward nevertheless.

"Beep-boopity-beep-boop-beepity?"

The cloaked figure has raised his blaster again.

"Ask them if they are willing to reconsider that assessment."

"Oughtn't we better get to the control room?" Bane argues, "If Dian is controlling these droids from there, then we need to stop him. Outside we will likely be arrested. After all, an emergency at the mine will bring the city's security, most likely."

"Fair point," the cloaked figure concedes, "Ask them where the control room is, then."

"Beepity-boop-beepity-boop," R5 replies matter-of-factly.

"He says he knows where it is," Bane translates, "Let's go."

"What about the technicians?" Sora asks, hesitating.

"We can kill them if you want?" the cloaked figure replies in a conceding tone.

"They want to stay here," says Bane, already halfway down the corridor, "I say we let them stay. We'll likely be meeting more security droids anyway."

Sora seems persuaded by Bane's words, and, ignoring the cloaked figure's, he begins to follow Bane down the corridor.

R5 rolls past Sora and then Bane, proceeding to lead the way down the series of corridors. They come across a couple more utai corpses, as well as a destroyed security droid. The siren continues to blare overhead. After another couple of corridors they reach the entrance to the control room. One of Dian Vevor's pau'an security guards lies face down on the floor, next to a pair of mining security droids. A blaster pistol lies beside him, and R5 quickly picks it up in an appendage.

"He's really cleaning house," Bane mutters to R5, glancing down at the deceased security guard.

"I'll take that," Sora says kindly to R5, reaching for the blaster it carries.

The droid quickly pulls it away from Sora's grasp, giving an indignant beep.

"You can barely use it," Sora replies, correctly interpreting its reluctance to give it to him, "Your appendage was hardly built to operate a blaster properly."

"He says he can use it better than you can," Bane translates, "I'm afraid you will have to find your own."

As he speaks, Bane steps forward, turning the final corner to the control room. The door stands open, and the floor is scattered with bodies of utai technicians. Computers and terminals line the walls of the long, rectangular room, and in a chair at the far end sits Dian Vevor, his back to the party.

Bane advances cautiously, blaster rifle pointed at the chair.

"All right, Dian, the game is up. You're not going to-"

The bounty hunter pauses mid sentence as he rounds the chair. Dian's lifeless eyes stare up at him, a lightsaber gash across his chest. He slides off the chair and falls to the floor with a thud. At that moment a figure seems to materialise out of the air behind them, slashing at Sora with a force pike. The figure wears tight fitting black robes, with a mask and hood. Another figure materialises beside the cloaked figure, slashing at him also.

Bane quickly raises his blaster rifle, firing at the cloaked figure's attacker. The attacker dodges beneath the shot, albeit narrowly.

Sora, unarmed as he is, quickly leaps over one of the terminals to avoid his attacker. The cloaked figure, meanwhile, fires at his attacker. His shot is timed perfectly, just as his attacker's arms are raised to swipe at him, and the shot strikes the attacker squarely in the chest. With a gasp he collapsed back against one of the terminals, dead.

OOC: Zirak Derasir has dealt 15 points of wound damage to Dark Side Assassin.

The remaining attacker has swiftly turned to face the cloaked figure, who he clearly views as the most dangerous threat. He swings, but the cloaked figure is able to duck beneath the blow, which passes centimeters above his head.

A blast from Bane grazes the attacker's arm, singing his jumpsuit.

Drawing instinctively on the Force, the cloaked figure reaches out, hurling the attacker back into a computer terminal beside Bane.

The attacker rolls up, scratched and bleeding, and slams his weapon at Bane's legs. The bounty hunter leaps just in time, scrambling away from the attacker.

Even as the attacker leaps up, rising above the bounty hunter, Bane fires striking the attacker who lands, unconscious, sprawled across the bounty hunter.

"This assassin needs to lay off a few kilograms," Bane's muffled voice comes from beneath the attacker as he heaves the body off.

The cloaked figure wastes no time in searching the two bodies of the assassins, withdrawing two medpacs, a comlink, a grappling hook, a glowrod and a hold out blaster.

"And where were you in that skirmish, my metallic friend?" he directs at R5.

"Beepity-beep-boop-beep-boop-beep," R5 replies smugly.

"He was apparently just making sure that Dian Vevor was 'all' dead," Bane translates, glancing down at the body of the former mining administrator. His corpse contains several fresh blaster marks, in addition to the earlier gash.

Searching Dian's corpse results in the discovery of another comlink, a credit chip with two thousand credits, and the turbolift access codes to the Commercial District.

At that moment a female voice comes across one of the assassin's comlinks.

"I'm almost at the control room, do you still have their location pinpointed?"

The cloaked figure exchanges a look with Bane.

"Run!"

"Sarin, do you copy?" comes the female voice once more. There is brief silence in which party hurry out of the control room and in the direction of the central turbolift. Then the voice curses in Zabraki.

Bane and the cloaked figure tear down the corridor, Sora limping behind, and R5 bringing up the rear. They turn one final corner and the turbolift comes into view at the far end. They are halfway along the corridor when they hear the sound of rapid footsteps approaching, and moment later a dark blur speeds into view behind them.

Bane fires a shot at the blur, which is easily avoided.

But suddenly the blur comes to an abrupt halt. The blur is revealed to be a female zabrak dressed in a dark cloak. Her skin is white and her eyes are yellow. And at present, those eyes stare with interest at the cloaked figure.

"Zirak?" she says softly, "Zirak Derasir, is that you?"

The cloaked figure, or Zirak as he appears to be, also halts, glancing back with interest.

"...You know me?"

"You don't know me?" the zabrak asks, smiling cruelly.

Zirak simply looks at her blankly.

The zabrak's smile widens, as she reaches into her cloak, withdraws and ignites two red lightsabers. She begins to advance once more.

"So, you truly remember nothing? Well, I assume you no longer remember how to defend yourself either."

R5, who has also halted, a few meters away from the turbolift, begins to unleash a fire extinguisher it pinched while in the control room, sending a mist down the corridor.

"Come on!" calls Bane, who has finished typing in the access codes, stepping into the now open turbolift.

Zirak sprints after them. Sora staggers after Bane, R5 rolls in a second later, and Zirak dives headlong just as the door closes. Bane hits the button for the Commercial District, and the turbolift ascends. The party think they detect a scream of rage echoing up from below as they go.

"Do you mind if I put this in your internal storage?" he asks softly, holding out the cube, "It will be safer out of sight, I think."

"Beepity-boop-beep-boop!" R5 responds proudly, opening up its storage compartment.

No sooner has Zirak risen from depositing the cube inside R5, the doors to the turbolift slide open at the Commercial District. A group of eight rather startled looking pau'an warriors stand before them, and have quickly raised their bidents. Zirak and Bane recognise their captain as the same one from the restaurant.

"You have no escape this time!" the captain says firmly, bident trained on Bane, "Do not attempt to flee, and we will not be forced to harm you."

"And where, precisely will you be taking us, should we agree to come willingly?" Zirak asks coolly.

"I am only taking you to the Administrator," the captain replies carefully, "We just have a few questions for you all. Now, if you will hand over your weapons-"

The captain glances between each of the party members, before nodding slowly.

"Very well," he says, his tone still cautious, "You may keep your weapons, but you will accompany us to the Administrator at once."

"Down in the mine just now we were attacked by a cloaked figure," Sora addresses the captain, "Her and her associates reprogrammed the mining droids and killed most of the mining personnel, including the executive."

The captain frowns, but he nevertheless raises a comlink with his left hand.

"Teams Tian and Fora, we may have a cloaked hostile with allies working in the mine. Agent Andor," he adds, "I have Sora Bulq and the others here with me at the commercial mine entrance. We are proceeding to the administrator."

Zirak frowns slightly, obviously uncomfortable with even this small sign of competence.

"Copy that," comes a gruff reply.

"Which level did you come from?" the captain directs at Sora.

"The control room level," Sora replies, "Whichever that is..."

"We are not obligated to answer just because they ask," Zirak murmurs to Sora resentfully, "I for one don't trust this."

"We have a last visual of the cloaked hostile at the control room central elevator shaft," the captain relays into the comlink, ignoring Zirak, "Move to intercept, I repeat, move to intercept."

"He intends to imprison us for interrogation," Bane murmurs to Zirak as the captain barks orders into the comlink, "They think the three of us are all working with the Jedi Crusaders. However they know nothing of the cube..."

"I think you may be right," Zirak murmurs back, "But I, for one, have had enough of being trapped in places I do not know just so these greyskins and the runts who serve them can feel happy. Is there a ship nearby we can steal?"

"Not easily, and not with a squad of soldiers about us. We will need to wait for the right-"

Bane breaks off as the captain turns his attention back to them.

"You will accompany us back to the Administrator," the captain instructs the party, "If you cooperate it will be taken into account in your favor."

"Very well, we will accompany you," Sora nods, handing his blaster pistol over to the captain, "And I willingly surrender my weapon also. We mean no harm to your city. We simply wish to leave as soon as possible."

"Fine," Zirak says coldly, not handing his weapon over, "We shall go to this Administrator of yours. But if you try any tricks, greyskin, know that I will respond to them with lethal force."

The captain sends Zirak a sour look, but seems to accept the arrangement. He has then lead the way over to a landspeeder, into which the party have been ushered. They have then begun to ascend the sinkhole, looping up the roads which circle the side, much like the groves of a screw. After a quarter of an hour they reach the barrier which separates the Administration District. They are hastily admitted, the moment the guards recognise the pau'an captain. It only takes them a further ten minutes to reach the Administration Building, a large, transperisteel building built into the side of the sinkhole.

Throughout the journey the captain does not speak, and the party make no attempts to converse with each other. The captain leads them into the Administration Building, taking another turbolift up to the Administrator's Office on the eighth floor. The room is fairly spacious, with largely practical durasteel furniture and few ornaments. The Administrator himself is a tall, lean pau'an in a elegant but simple robe, and is seated behind a desk. A pau'an aid stands beside him, and two red armored pau'an warriors stand at each side of the interior of the door.

"Administrator Ferr," the captain gives a curt bow as he enters, "I have with me the off-worlders involved with the events at the facility. They also appear to be connected to the incident at the mine."

"I think we can allow them to speak for themselves, Captain Tamon," replies the Administrator austerely, "Please," he directs at the party, "Explain what has transpired in my city over the past couple of days, and why you came to be here in the first place."

Bane and Zirak remain silent, and so it is Sora who speaks.

"To be honest I remember absolutely nothing before awakening in a partially destroyed facility. We were attacked by some of your small creatures, 'utai' was it? Anyway, I was knocked unconscious. I awoke in the mining facility, and shortly afterwards a siren started blaring. We attempted to reach the control room, as all the security droids had gone hostile. When we arrived we found the executive dead and were attacked by some assassins dressed in black. After that we were attacked by a cloaked figure with a red lightsaber. She attempted to kill us, but we escaped up the turbolift. Outside, we ran into your captain here."

"It surprises me, actually, that such assassins would be able to operate so freely," Zirak puts in coolly, "Unless they were operating under your orders."

"They are not operating under our orders," Tamon replies indignantly, "If indeed they are operating at all."

Administrator Ferr scowls at the implication.

"Yes, we only have your word for it that anyone was chasing you at all. All contact with the mine and security footage has been lost. And it is all very well for you to say that you have conveniently lost your memory, but someone needs to be held accountable for the damage to both the mines and the facility."

Sora frowns.

"That is understandable. However, with my memory loss, convenient though it may be, I cannot say argue with any certainty of our innocence or guilt. But I too wish to know the circumstances that led to my being in that facility in the first place. And you have my word that if I am to blame for any damage sustained by this city I will take steps to see it compensated and set right."

The Administrator eyes Sora appraisingly, rubbing his chin.

"Well, I want a holosignature of that," he says at length, sounding slightly mollified, "I don't want any of this 'I lost my memory so now I'm not paying' nonsense."

Sora can't help but grin a little.

"Very well, do you have one here?"

"And once he's signed it, are we free to leave?" Bane asks hopefully.

"Once I have a name or three, so I know who to bill," the Administrator says, with a disastrous disregard of Utapaian protocol, "Now, do either of you two have any memory of how you got here?"

Both Zirak and Bane shake their heads.

"Nothing," Bane lies innocently.

OOC: Bane Malar rolled 18 using 1d20+7. Bluff.

Before the Administrator can respond, the door behind them opens and a rugged human man in his thirties has entered, followed by an attractive human woman in her early twenties.

"Administrator," the man bows curtly, "I am afraid I must insist that these three be escorted to our ship immediately. As you are doubtless already aware, Sora Bulq here is the leader of the Jedi Crusaders, and one of the most dangerous beings in the galaxy. We are dealing with an intergalactic threat here. Sora Bulq and his companions must be taken off planet immediately, or I fear your city will suffer a worse fate than it has already. It won't be long before the zealots of his faction come to attempt to liberate him, if they are not here already. I'm sure you do you want your city to be the sight of a full scale war."

"And what of the facility that was destroyed?" Tamon demands sharply, "Several bodies were found there, including half a dozen Jedi. How are we to know a weapon or virus hasn't already leaked out into our city? We are involved in this now, whether we wish to be or not."

"Now just a minute," says Ferr, clearly unwilling to sacrifice his holosigniature, "Tamon here is correct. Our city is already embroiled in whatever Sora was doing here. Not to mention that he has come here willingly. He is not a flight risk. Aughtn't you rather be looking for this cloaked being in the mine who is currently on the loose, instead of harassing people who are willing to take some responsibility for the chaos they cause?"

His aide has been swiftly producing a hasty but nevertheless legally binding document on a flimsie as he speaks, and the Administrator now snatches the completed document and scans over it to ensure its validity.

"You may sort out your agreements with Bulq at a future date," Andor says firmly, "For now the Stratocratic investigation must take precedence."

"On my planet, within my jurisdiction, you will respect my laws," the Administrator huffs, glaring up from scanning his document, "Unless you want it printed on the holonet that a Stratocratic agent was in league with a Jedi Crusader, and attacked Utapau security for no reason at all but that we aren't a significant planet. That would go down quite well with Naboo and Alderaan, wouldn't it?"

The pair are interrupted at that moment by a transmission from Tamon's comlink.

"Captain," a harried pau'an voice says quickly, "We just lost contact with teams Tian and Fora."

Tamon curses.

"It seems you three may have been telling the truth after all. Agent Andor, you will accompany my men in securing the mine and locating these cloaked assassins. Once they are in our custody, we can continue to negotiate what to do with Sora and his companions."

He glances at the Administrator for approval.

"And Sora stays right here until you have finished with dealing with the mess down in those mines," Administrator Ferr informs Andor firmly, "And you sign here..." he adds in a lower tone to Sora.

"Very well," replies Andor through gritted teeth as he makes he way toward the door, "But as soon as-"

He is interrupted at that moment by a deep rumble, as the office about them shakes violently, sending Tamon, halfway through turning, crashing flat on the floor. He curses once more, rising, and as he does so, he raises his comlink.

"What the blazes was that?" he demands, "Lieutenant, report!"

"We are investigating now," comes the response, "Hold for a moment."

The administrator looks like he thinks this is somehow all Agent Andor's fault.

There is silence for a minute or two, with suspicious glares all round, before a response is heard.

"Captain," comes the hollow reply, "There has been a detonation at the mine. The structural integrity of the limestone and carbonite rock beneath the city has been compromised. Sir, we may be looking at the collapse of the entire city..."

Tamon glances with horror at Administrator Ferr.

"Evacuate the city," says the Administrator curtly, "And add that to the bill," he adds to his aide.

"You will be a pauper until you are ninety," Zirak predicts to Sora, glancing at the holodocument as they hurry from the room.

"Let's focus on getting Sora to ninety," Bane says as a chunk of the roof collapses a meter or two behind them.

They reach the turbolift, and risk descending in it. Administration staff and security guards hurry about the foyer in pandemonium as they exit the turbolift a few seconds later. Several cracks have already begun to develop on the floor, and most of the windows have shattered. Dashing through the crowd, they reach the entrance of the building. Outside the scene is not much better. The spiral streets are full of screaming and panicking pau'ans and utai, hurrying in all directions as about them rocks and debris begin to shower down from above. Utai and pau'an security forces direct and shove random citizens into shuttles about the place with as much self composure as they can muster.

Andor sprints over to a landspeeder parked outside the Administration Building.

"Get in!" he calls to Sella and Sora.

Sella hurries over to the landspeeder, accompanied by Sora, Bane, Zirak and R5. Administrator Ferr begins to hurry after Sora, flimsie in hand. Tamon, partway through barking orders into the comlink, grabs Ferr's arm.

"Administrator," he shouts, "Get to your starship and get airborne immediately!"

"Not without my signature!" Ferr shouts back, ignoring the dust and blood mingling with the sweat on his forehead.

Tamon rolls his eyes.

"Sorry, Administrator," he says, drawing his blaster pistol and blasting Ferr in the back with a stun bolt. With a garbled cry the Administrator slumps limply to the ground at his feet. Heaving up the lean pau'an, Tamon passes him across to a pair of his warriors, "Get him to his ship and confirm as soon as you are airborne!" he commands. The pair nod, hurrying off through the crowd. Tamon watches them out of sight, before resuming his barking into his comlink.

By this time the party have clambered into the landspeeder, with Sora helping Zirak to hoist in R5 before leaping in himself. Andor takes off a moment later, and not a moment too soo, as a large chunk of office wall crashes into the ground where they were parked half a second before. Taking off into the chaotic streets, Andor dodges skillfully through the crowd, making his way down to where the party can only assume his ship must be parked. He has not gone more than a couple of hundred meters, however, when Zirak and Bane notice an all too familiar dark blur streaking towards the landspeeder through the crowd.

"The Sith!" Bane shouts to Andor, pointing at the blur.

Andor's eyes narrow as he spots the blur, which is by now less than fifty meters away.

"Sella!" he calls, "Take the controls!" As she hastily does so, he rises out of his seat and slings up a blaster rifle, launching a series of blasts at the blur. He is as surprised as anyone in the landspeeder, and even the Sith herself, when all of a sudden she gives a cry, slowing as she clutches her side, staggers sideways and topples from the side of the road into the gaping sinkhole. He has only a moment to take in his success, before the ground beneath the landspeeder cracks, and it lurches sideways, tossing the helpless Andor into the sinkhole after the Sith.

OOC: Cassian Andor dealt 18 points of wound damage to Kyria Arashi.

"Cassian!" screams Sella in dismay, bringing the landspeeder to a halt as she helplessly watches him fall. She leaps out of the speeder and hurries to the edge of the ledge. There is no sign of him amongst the falling debris.

"Shall we continue?" Bane says to Zirak, sliding into the pilot's seat and beginning to take off once more.

"Wait!" shouts Zirak suddenly, himself leaping from the speeder. The reason becomes apparent as he charges over to where the Sith fell, and snatches up one of her lightsabers, which rests a meter or so from the ledge. A few seconds later he leaps back into the speeder.

"All, right, go!"

Sella has by this time herself returned to the speeder, leaping on just in time as Bane floors the vehicle forwards, dodging through the crowd even faster than Andor.

"We need to return to Coruscant," she pants, trying to regain her composure a little.

"How about we discuss this when we aren't trying to escape a collapsing sinkhole?" Bane suggests tersely as he misses a utai family by centimeters.

He flies along for another minute or so before turning the speeder so abruptly to the left that Sora is almost thrown out. He then flies out onto a platform where a faded, orange and grey YV-929 light freighter is parked, boarding ramp down. There is no one in sight, although fifty meters to so to their left they can see a warehouse, door open.

"Go! Go!" Bane calls to the others as he brings the landspeeder to an abrupt halt and leaps out, helping Sora and Zirak to lift out R5.

"Tell me we are not stealing a ship?" Sella says indignantly to Sora she clambers out of the landspeeder.

"Uh, we are not stealing a ship?" Sora says obligingly as he hurries after Bane, Zirak and R5.

"No one is asking you to come, lady!" Bane calls back as he reaches the boarding ramp and sprints up.

"I don't believe this," Sella mutters under her breath as she sprints after them.

The ship appears to be a transport vessel, with a pile of crates stacked in the cargo bay. At present Bane pays these no notice as he makes for the cockpit. The ship is otherwise empty, with its owner nowhere in sight. Flicking a couple of switches, Bane warms up the ship and prepares for take off.

"All right! Let's go!" Sora calls to Bane as Sella reaches the boarding ramp, hurrying up even as it closes.

"Beepity-boop-dwoop!" R5 beeps, plugging itself into the copilot's socket beside Bane.

"Well," says Bane to the droid dryly, taking off as the platform collapses beneath them, "I'm glad that at least someone is having a good day..."
