When she saw her previous spell barely graze the man, Ariana fought down a scream of frustration. At times, her magic was crushingly weak.

Fortunately her friends were faring better, and one of their foes was down already. Ariana let fly with another fire bolt, but it hit the ceiling, nowhere near her target.

12:01, Today: Ariana Evenwood rolled 6 using 1d20+5. Fire bolt.

Re: There is No Honor
Hurl boiled forward, fueled by the blood these men had invited him to draw. He hoped they’d draw the wyrmling wherever it may be. He and his companions were warming up and most the Lotus lackeys would be running groggy from sleep in bedclothes.

“Where’s Vanthus fools?” He hissed while whirling, knowing none might have a working throat before they had chance to answer. He didn’t even take time to reorient his primal hunt magic.

Attack Shana’s armed thug if he’s still up, or the disarmed one if he’s all that remains (moving toward a target if necessary)
First attack 22 vs AC for 5 slashing.
Second attack 21 vs AC for 1 slashing.

19:25, Today: Hurl Firbolge rolled 22 using 1d20+5.  Attack.
19:32, Today: Hurl Firbolge rolled 21 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 16.  Bonus attack.
19:34, Today: Hurl Firbolge rolled 5,1 using 1d6+3,1d6 with rolls of 2,1.  Main and bonus damage (respectively).

Re: There is No Honor
Ariana's fire bolt misses its intended target. Story hits her target, though, taking him out of the fight. Balthasar stabs the unarmed thug, who grabs a mug from the table and slams it into Balthasar's head then deftly ducks out of the way of Talora's sacred flame. Hurl then moves in and takes him down, hacking him twice with his handaxes.

While the dining hall is now still, the party can hear running footsteps coming from the open hallway to the east.

"Nice work," Balthasar says to his companions, glancing down briefly at the stab wound on his leg. "But it sounds like there are more coming, so ready yourselves." He moves to one side of the opening to the hallway and prepares to attack whoever is coming.

Re: There is No Honor
Typical.  Talora could have sworn this place was completely empty not five minutes before.  And now suddenly there are folk to spare for every spare yelp.

Talora makes for the far door, intent on roasting a clump of the impending chumps with a slightly larger spell than her little bouts of flame.  But pauses as she passes the monk.

"Bal, can you stand?"

Ariana was glad no-one was particularly injured. Once again, she was relieved to see Shana put herself in harm's way. The wizardess made a mental note to thank her friends for their protection when they had some quiet time.

Re: There is No Honor
Eager for more, and seeing Balthasar, Shana, and Talora take the door, Hurl stowed his axes, crouched and heaved up on the room's big table with his broad back and shoulders bunching, hoping to overturn it for a barrier if needed.

Thereafter, he readied his big bow and quiver for rapid access, drawing and aiming an arrow eagerly at the door. His ears remained alert to the room's other doorways, while his lips still hummed with the primal cadence of the hunt.

Re: There is No Honor
Hurl leaned his bow around the table, intoned death to those that would seek violence to us here and loosed a bone arrow.

Arrows always feel so small and weightless compared to the heft of a javelin. They are really best for flying prey and tremendous distance, and preserving javelins for a greater threat. Even so, if they can pierce a rotten hide or face, even a dart could do the trick.

Bonus Action: Apply Hunter's Mark to a thug.
Action: Attack marked thug with an arrow: 16 vs AC for 9 piercing.

15:52, Today: Hurl Firbolge rolled 16 using 1d20+4.  Bow Attack.
15:53, Today: Hurl Firbolge rolled 9 using 1d8+1d6+2.  Bow damage (w hunter's mark).

"I don't want to hug any of these guys." Talora quips and fires off another burst of light.

Re: There is No Honor
Shana swipes her sword at the first thug to step through the door, drawing blood across his chest. Ariana's fire bolt misses him badly, but Balthasar takes him down with a quick jab of his shortsword. Talora's sacred flame connects with the next one through the door and Story's vicious mockery cuts into his psyche. Hurl then drops him with a well-aimed arrow.

The remaining two thugs jump over their comrades and into the room, attacking Shana and Balthasar, but failing to hit either.

Next round.

Thug 1: dying

Intent on finishing this off quickly, Shana nevertheless moved to place herself in between the assailants and the softer targets, especially Ariana.

She lunged at one of the thugs with her sword, but her timing was off.

It was a good job Ariana's friends were in top form. Ariana's magic was misfiring, and badly. The wizardess, seeing the spectre of her mother's frown in front of her, disappointed her mentor once again.

Re: There is No Honor
Talora looked at the battlefield and decided the little bursts of light weren't cutting it.  And the bigger ones weren't worth it.

So she decided to start playing gadfly.

Maneuvering herself near Shana and her "friend," Talora makes a jabbing blow at the thug...not really intending to hit, but to divide his attention from Shana's sword

OOC: If there's room, I move to flank.  If there isn't I simply take the "Help" action.  In either case Shana has advantage.

Roll again, girl.

Story, likewise, is disappointing Ariana's mentor, which isn't good because that might be her mother-in-law someday. Her crossbow attack goes wide.

Re: There is No Honor
Ariana and Story fire into the fray but they both fail to hit an opponent.

Balthasar takes down his opponent with a quick jab of his shortsword followed by a swift kick.

Shana, with an assist from Talora, takes down the last thug, splattering the room with blood in the process.

End combat. Move to the new thread.
