Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

For my part, I thought it was perfectly fitting to the character you've established for her over the course of the game. And she is a much better person than she thinks. The rough edges make her a lot of fun.

I second what Bryan said.

Also, I realized I forgot to draw for initiative and have now done so and updated with the results.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

I apologize for not speaking up about this earlier, but I too was of the opinion that Kansas Kate’s most recent rant (there have, after all, been several) was perfectly in keeping with her character. Honestly, I think you’ve done a tremendous job of illustrating the “why” behind Siobhan’s (very) rough edges, and the fact that, at heart, she truly is a heroine, even if she herself doesn’t recognize that fact.

Ah shucks

I just realize some of the things she says are... yeah, they're not nice, and I don't want to make someone with real life issues uneasy, if that makes any sense.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

My apologies, everyone. We’ve had a strong jolt of winter weather in my neck of the woods, one that shut off my power for two days and forced me to spend the night in a hotel. We’re looking at another potential storm tomorrow, but hopefully, once that’s passed, we’ll be through the worst of it.

All to say, I’m sorry for the recent silence. I’m hopeful that I’ll be back in the swing of things in a couple of days

Yikes indeed!  Yeah...stay warm...   We'll be here.  I'll try not to change my action /again/.  I make no promises.

Stay warm! Hopefully you keep power this time and you don't have to stay in a hotel. But if you do, hopefully it's the Driskill. ;)

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

I hope everyone is safe, well, and warm.

I apologize. I had not honestly anticipated such a long silence. By way of explanation, in the wake of my last post, I lost power in my home again, this time for a five day stretch. Ultimately, the water ended up getting shut off as well, though in my case, thankfully, that was a proactive measure by the city to prevent pipes from bursting. In the end, I had to find shelter at a friend’s home. At the worst point, it hit 38 degrees inside my apartment.

The power came on yesterday afternoon and water was restored this morning. We’re under a boil water notice, but I have plenty of bottled water and sufficient pots to make it through until that lifts. I sincerely count myself blessed. My apartment is intact and free of damage, and I know there are still a number of people in the city without electricity and running water.

All that to say, I should be back in the swing of things here in a day or so. Spending some time with storytelling will likely prove somewhat therapeutic for me. I’m still contending with a bit of a “stranger in a strange land” feeling at the moment.

Again, I hope each of you are doing well.

Yes, glad to hear things are getting better for you and sorry to hear about all the difficulties. Hopefully you will have some 60s and 70s this week to help thaw out.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Yikes!  I knew power was out in a lot of places for a while there.  I am beyond lucky the worst I've had to deal with is losing water (though the building's got a radiant heating system so no water = no heat :p).   You win!

Any "fun" winter storm stories?

My 50 something year old neighbor with her foot in a cast trying to go up and down 3 flights of stairs to carry up her groceries she'd spent 8 hours getting...  Luckily my other neighbor happened to come out and overhear and helped make it very clear she was not going up the icy stairs unassisted and she was not lugging up a car full of groceries either.

This one's gross, so spoilered.  You've been warned!

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Due to the need to conserve even the melted snow water (and no I'm not drinking it, I am boiling it and using it to rinse and wash things, clean up messes, etc.), everyone's been, uh, making chocolate in the trash.  This was fine for a while because it just froze, but now that the trash is stacked to the heavens, it's no longer below freezing outside, and the garbage trucks haven't run since week before last and they're not likely to resume any time soon... it's wee bit fragrant out there next to the dumpster.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Marshal, I have not had it nearly as bad as you have, though we did go without power and heat for a little bit. We got it back, but then the rest of my family lost it, so we had them all staying with us for a few days. Things were a bit crowded and hectic. We were also under a boil order, so boiling water for damn near everything.

Look outside now and it's sunny and comparably warm and you can't even tell what was going on a few days ago...it's crazy.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

I know exactly what you mean. When I walked the dog this morning, I didn’t even have to wear a jacket.

Regardless of my situation, I can only imagine how scary that night was with two little ones. I’m glad your family’s power came back on quickly. It’s great that you could provide shelter for other members of your family, but I know that having a bunch of people crowded in your home under difficult conditions is always stressful. I’m thankful you and yours made it through alright.

At present, my section of the city is still under a boil water notice. The boiling requirement was lifted for most of the area south of me this morning, so I’m hopeful that the restriction will end here soon.

Honestly I've probably gained weight, eating mostly freeze dried/nonperishable stuff and not doing regular workouts (I had to go out and do some things but not like normal, and I'm trying to avoid sweating because I have no way to clean laundry other than drive to an out of town laundromat).

Curious -- under a boil water notice, is the water safe to use for bathing / showering?

Glad the two of you are moving in the right direction.  I've got friends in Austin that are going through the same thing right now.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Yeah we're under a boil water order.  Let me put it this way, I'm not swallowing any of it or using it to wash my face unless it's been boiled first.
